file Feeding your baby BLW style

@ Marijke, I was wondering:) Its nice that you can get stimulation, just a pitty about Bianca getting ill:(

Food with salt is a bit of an understatement... An example would be my MIL made a stew with a stock cube (alreay high in salt), then added salt, then used an oxo cube (more salt) as a thickener. I began to feel like a freak having to examine everything JAmes ate.., but the good thing is that finally I dont feel bad about adding sugar to my porridge - something she has always teased me about and I told her so:)

@memo, I am actually currently on the hunt for a new nanny. I'm not keen on creches and given that my working hours are so erratic and that I can sometimes be home most of the day, it makes the most sense - when I am around to watch james I at least have someone to clean the house:) Its actually a really long story, but the lady who has been working for me once a week for the last 3 years and is really great was meant to be starting full time (she is great with James), but then her sons girlfriend dumped her baby on her, so she decided she wanted to continue working 1 day a week at all her current employers because it works out more flexible for her (she currently works 4 days a week till 3, I would want her 5 till 5), so I had a friend who was unemployed helping out for a little extra cash. She was also doing my billing etc when James was sleeping. Unfortunately that was a temp solution and she has now found a real job, so I am currently on the nanny hunt. I have a couple of people lined up to interview on Monday and hope I find someone before my mom goes back to work at the end of the chool holiday:) My current maid will then go work for my mom:)

Claudia, where does youre baby stay during the day? I also need to start gearing back to work, I really cant afford not to work, our place keeps getting smaller and that's not good either, but where to leave the prince..

Memo, gross man about the hol, long, poephol en tong. I know whats in them but choose to ignore it - so much easier! Whats that saying: ignorance is bliss!

Claudia, funny! Likes food with her salt! I still make (and always have) food without any salt etc and add it afterwards. But with the heat in CT cooking is the last thing on my mind. And purity is gross, really didn't blame B for puking the first and only time she tried it.

Yeah, my fridge is stocked with fruit, watermelon is the new favourite, peaches and plums. B asks for a 'broodjie' then eats off whatever I put on it and leaves the bread. Have been thinking about getting a breadmaker as I'm not too sure what goes into those express bulk breads....

With regards to eating with a spoon it depends on the consistency. I'll have to look back on the thread as to when B started eating with a spoon but it's a messy business and it still is - even now at 17 months.

Love love love sweat potato, we make chips with it and add it to a meal or just as a snack. B can eat hand fulls.

Claudia - about going back to work. The thing is I have always been working since before B was born. I do the accounting for my husband and brother in laws business. I use to do it at home but it got too much so I went in once a month. When B was born I cut down to only going in once every two months then my mother would look after her for 5 hours as I get the VAT sorted. The problem was that during that period I let a lot of things slip because I didn't have the time to figure it out etc so in Oct last year I said to my BIL I need to find B somewhere to stay for at least 2 weeks so I can sort everything out so that I'm ready for year end (end of Feb) oh yes and just the weekend before that I told him how I felt that my brain was dying - so he offered me a permanent job as their business isn't shrinking and he (BIL) can't cope with the paperwork anymore. So that's the story. It's not that I decided to rather not be at home, it's that, that business is our families bread and butter and if I can stay on top of paperwork it can expand even more.

I've also been slipping a little in the salt department.. Jude has had things like biltong, cheese, xmas lunch and a little piece of pizza (is it really that bad? cheese, tomatoe and doug?)
Anyway, I've also started giving him a little weetbix mixed with dash of hot water and double cream yogurt for breakie which is spoon fed (when did your babies start operating a spoon), that doesnt always go down well so he's always got a piece fruit in hand (which is always a hit)
Fruit is defnitely my easiest recipe so I've always got lots in the house(plum, apricot, peach, banana, avo), and now with my new meatball/ fishcake invension, protien is not such a issue either.
I've also started making sarmies for lunch, easy and he loves it. So I spread something yummy on a couple of squares of bread, like avo and cottage cheese (well, if theres cottage cheese in the fridge it goes on everything or it goes to waste), o and Ive also got a seed mix that I sprinkle on, not sure if any gets digested though. And I've been a little more relaxed so if theres humus, on bread (loves this btw) Sweet potato is also a firm favourite, of mine, I just put it in steamer and then thats lunch sorted, with a bit of cottage cheese and seed sprinkle (lol)
I just try to keep varying what's in the fidge and Jude sometimes eats more than other days but I can defnitely tell that solids do really feature now and that I was right to wait a little. So he'll be 10 months on the 17th and at the mo he eats,um well lets just say all day, there's always something on offer and if he plays with it I just take it away. I think he's got a good appetite :)
I like listing what I feed him so if you guys spot something off, please let me know.

@ Marijke, shame I've been following your issues on facebook, you've really been having a run of it:( Just wondering though, what made you decide to go back to work - if you dont mind me asking??

James is really loving his food at the moment, but I feel like sometimes I'm at a loss at what to feed him, so some recipes would be good (?Memo?) It was also really hard while on holiday in Scotland, because it turns out that my MIL likes food with her salt:)
I must admit that I fed James some purity on the flights. I didnt think him flinging food around would go too well and it seemed like the next best solution. Umm actually not - has anyone tasted that stuff - its awful, and James just spat it out (after trying to fight the spoon out of my hand). I'm just getting over a tummy bug (lovely thing to get after a holiday), but my plan is to get some healthy fast foods made up for james for lunches etc..

Oooh Memo, I think you have to share some of your recipes with us. B loves - as in LOVES - fish. My brother in law caught 2 (I'm blonde and really can't remember what type it was) before Christmas and we had to stop her from eating all of it.

I'll tell you, my nerves were shot. When they are that sick you are constantly worried and it drains you like I've never known. Before this B had one UTI and the odd snotty nose - so you can understand my frustration with having to wash the floors, bathroom and all her bedding 11 times. My oldest sister also had her kids at home for a while before they started going to a daycare and she said it's like they first have to catch all the bugs that the other kids are already immune to. So the other kids had a slight runny tummy and B had full blown out the top and bottom and so forth.

R18 for 6 eggs?! Gosh, you can get your own hens for less :)
I have no idea what to make for a fussy toddler, I'm playing it by ear. And never mind terrible mom - as you can see I'm one too (the vienna! grrr)

:D
