@Kimber, pls don't feel guilty, it's a useless emotion. It doesn't matter if you breastfeed for 2 days, weeks, months or years- just as long as you feed them. Yes breastmilk has benefits and is the biological norm for human babies, but if a mom with all the facts chooses(or has to for whatever reason) formula then she is doing so for her own good reasons. The only thing that ticks me off is the perpetuation of myths about breastfeeding that result in moms believing falsely that their milk is inadequate. These myths are perpetuated by doctors, nurses and in some cases even so called lactation consultants because training on breastfeeding is so limited that you actually have to make an effort to learn about it. I blame the fact that so many people struggle to breastfeed, not on their own inadequacies- because they are not inadequate in any mean shape or form, but on the fact that doctors aren't trained, nurses often can't help, there are very few international board certified lactation consultants and breastfeeding has become a lost art to society due to huge marketing budgets of nestle, aspen, enamel etc. So instead of feeling guilty about your choices, be angry at the system that forced you to make those choices. Things like the government advocates exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months and then only gives 4 months mat leave? Not everyone is as lucky as me:) and people like gems who pump for so long are an inspiration to me!
@vash it sounds like you are being very gentle and he thinks it's a game:) as for pumping, the more often you pump the more efficient you get. Mornings are my best pumping times:)
