how long did you breastfeed for?

vash I also feed in the car or in shops changing rooms, but if I am at a coffee shop etc, I just whip them out, if they cant provide somewhere nice to feed, then they will have to put up with the boobs.

Claudia you are lucky, paige gets very upset if I dont focus on her and starts squirming and fighting so I pay attention while she is feeding, so no reading for me. sometimes she gets so irritable that I have to walk around while feeding, not easy as she gets bigger. My hisband calls it the drive through

Liam will never let me read while breastfeeding. He will try to pull or kick the book out of my hand. I love reading but I just don't get the time to do it.

Claire:) Boring? Hmmm I use it as internet browsing, reading and tv time. (yay for iphones and dstv on demand). When I feel guilty that I am not bonding with James I read to him - but he gets whatever I'm reading, so the last month es been getting excerpts of the millenium series (thank goodness hes still little, they are quite explicit) There are days when I look forward to him feeding because there are books that I'm really into and its the only time I get to read them:)

I breastfed for 16 months. I always knew I would bf for longer than a year but I was never the biggest fan of it because 1) No-one else can do it for you so you always get the pajama drill. 2) It was really boring. That being said...I miss it now and I'm so proud of myself for sticking to my guns.

My son woke me up every night, 3 times a night, to have a little comfort suck and then go back to sleep. I was finished. So I eventually decided that he wasn't hungry and therefore didn't need it. I would go into his room, pick him up, but NOT feed him. 2 nights of that and he started sleeping through. I did start out by stretching him out to 4 then 5 then 6 then 7 hours. Maybe you could try that Vash? If he is playing and hardly sucking, then he is just comforting himself and a hug will work just as well.

My son weaned himself at 16 months. I had him down to 2 feeds a day. He also would never take a bottle...so I started offering him a bottle before a feed. One night he finished the bottle and refused the boob. He has never asked for it again. It was so painless.

Charnenay, I know what you mean about things not going to plan. I didn't expect to breastfeed for so long but here we are 9 months later.

Claudia, I'm with you on the 6 months maternity leave. I can't imagine leaving my 4 month old and having to go to work.

Niki, I too tried to do everything I used to do before after having Liam but I quickly realised that the cleaning could wait. My baby needed me more. They grow up so fast that you have to enjoy every moment you can. For the first 3 months Liam only wanted to be carried, now he hates it, he wants to move around on his own.
Re places to breastfeed, I just do it in the car.
