I am feeling your frustration! I haven't completely finalised how much our medical aid will pay for the birthing unit with midwife, but by the sounds of it we will have to fork out around R4500 ourselves. It is insane considering that I pay R4000 for my medical aid per month! The funny thing is that they will pay every cent should I have another c-section again. The whole medical system is just upside down in South Africa. I really feel your frustration and I can imagine that you are dissapointed that you can't go the route you have planned. How about getting a doula while you labor in hospital? Not sure how much a doula costs (pretty sure the medical aid won't pay that either). So sorry to hear that things can't go as planned, especially after all the research and appointments you have made! xx

how are you doing?
I went back to my medical aid offices yesterday and after fighting with them they eventually told me their medical aid rate towards a home birth and was shocked to find out I have to folk out R6000+ out of pocket which we can't afford and sadly they pay 100% to 300% on hospital birth with a gynea. So We eventually were forced to go the gynea route, not my desire but we have no choice. So wd have booked the bed and will be seeing him in 2weeks. I'm just demotivated about this.
On a positive note I'm going for a 4d scan this afternoon so hoping that goes well.
Gloie@ I'm hoping it wasn't food poisoning, I am still suffering badly from reflux and hoping it goes down soon. I will watch these exercises and see what I can fit in my regime.

I agree: choosing the name must the most difficult part of the pregnancy!! It doesn't help that my LG is regularly saying that she doesn't like her name and that she would have preferred to be named Rose or Jasmine!! So there is real pressure here! Hubby and I also don't have the same taste...So yes, it is really tricky. And I agree, the afrikaans names are even more tricky. I have all these unusual ideas, but my husband thinks I am crazy....Dita, Lulu, Katrien, Letta, Ella and what I love the most is Mathilda, but he doesn't like it at all. So, we might settle for Kara. Our surname is Nel so it has to match that too (kind of).

Nelsn - Noooo!!! Sorry to hear about the tummy bug?!! Do you think it was a bug or that it was red meat? I am so nervous in this hot weather about food poisoning.

I am having something sweet everyday, 4 pieces of chocolate or a piece of turkish delight or 3 "love heart sweets". I would never do this normally!! I must gather all my will power and get rid of everything!!!!

I sit on it for about 10 minutes in front of computer every now and again, but the height is slightly low, so I can't sit like this for a long time.
Otherwise I just sit on it every hour or so for a couple of minutes and do some basic exercises like shown here:



Posture is very important to have baby positioned well and if you sit for long periods of time this can lead to incorrect positioning of baby. I do sit long hours in front of computer, so I have to be very careful. I can already feel my muscles stiff after just 2 days on the ball. Just make sure you get the right size for your height. I am 1.68 m and use the 75 cm ball (quite big) but your knees should be in line with your hips when you sit on the ball and not higher or lower. Sitting on the ball really helps to stretch all those pelvic and hip muscles and tone your buttocks. Perhaps the upright exercises on the ball will be easier with the reflux Nels?

Newbiemom - Yes, the spinningbaby exercises do seem a bit challenging. How do you do the massage?
ahh...Can't believe there is uncertainty about the sex again?? It must be so frustrating? Hope you can get confirmation soon. So glad to hear about the babyshower!!! Do you have a date or is it a surprise?

I agree I think I am putting in more thought and energy into this pregnancy (probably because it will be my last if things go according to plan). But enjoying the crap out of this pregnancy...he he hehe

Welcome Jana! I know afrikaans names can be so difficult... we named our lb Markus. I struggled to think of names when we thought this baby might be a boy. But i also love Ben! Never liked it that much until my friend named her son Ben, and suddenly i just fell in love with it.

Gloei i also saw the spinningbabies excercise on you tube. Tried it once, but decided to stick to just doing the massage that our midwife showed me. Much easier cant wait for our scan next friday! We can see baby's position, and just make sure its still a girl, since our midwife was convinced that according to the heartbeat it is a boy. But the heartbeat was much faster than any of the scans, and it was just after the midwife and midwife student examined me and pushed around on the baby quite alot... so i think that its what caused her heartbeat to accelerate. But we will see. Im ordering alot of pink for my a0babyshower!

Oh yes, and i am having a baby shower. Our group of friends give a babyshower for each and every baby, which is nice especially since i only had a few boy things, and we will now need girl things and things for a different season!
i got my first cloth nappies in the mail last week! Sooo exciting! Cant wait to have a whole complete stash!

Seriously girls, this pregnancy is becoming very consuming mentally. Its all i think about. All day every day my mind just revolves around baby things and getting ready and when baby comes. Hormones you think?

Jana@ Welcome , lol. I get you problem. Hubby has chosen a name I dislike and my mom wants to name lo because she didnt have an opportunity to name our first :|.
I haven't been feeling well lately, had to go to the clinic for bad tummy bug and throwing up. It seems I must count red meat out of my diet;( it makes me sick all of a sudden.
Newbiemom@ thanks for the constipation suggestion will try it indeed. If I had a birthing centre close by I would have loved to use one too. They are so nice and mostly relaxing , home away from home
Gloie@ I think you and I must go on a sugar strike. Sad to say I am failling badly , I understand the fruit issue its the substitute for sweets. Do you use your birth ball for just sitting on too or only for Pilates?
Starreyed@ how are you doing? How was the holiday.
Hubby is on leave so am trying to get as much rest as possible. So much to do and I am so exhausted. Had to exercise while chewing gum again today and that seems to help.

I would suggest you look at websites like these who give you name suggestions based on names you like. Not sure if they will have the more afrikaans sounding names on their system, but it is worth a try!
