Hi Ladies,

Faffymum - It is astounding to read about the positive statistics about the success rate of the Hypnobirthing techniques. At the end of the course our practitioner suggested to remember that there will be/may be discomfort and don't expect a complete painfree birth, but with the tools that you learned it will make labor a lot more manageable. I think one may be disappointed if your birth does not quite pan out as tranquil as the videos shown in the course (it all seems as if the women are sleeping through 99% of labor???!!! ), although I am not doubting that it is possible to have such a birth. I am guess I am just saying that I am open to the idea that there are going to be/may be tough moments but feel confident that with the right support and mindset I can get through it. Now that I have started to practice it for a while now I am beginning to feel more confident that I CAN DO THIS!!

Starryeyed - Oh no no no! So sorry to hear about the contractions and being in hospital!!! I can only imagine that you must feel angry as this is not how anyone imagines their pregnancy. It must feel like such an "out of control situation" with a million things going through your head. You have already had such a tough time and now this. You are going to be in my thoughts and I am hoping that baby can stay put for just a while longer!!! Please keep us updated. xx

@Jana Welcome!! Choosing a name is really hard... I never realized how hard until we started looking for a name for our little one. Good luck! I hope you can find something you would like to shorten it to.

@Nels_n OMW...I cannot believe the medical aid issues... I have had problems as well... Seems like we pay them so much and never get what we want. I hope you are feeling better! Have you cut red meat out completely and gotten better? And I cannot believe how much you could have to pay for a 4d scan... We paid R650 and we got a dvd with video clips and a dvd with photos... She allocated an hour for us and when our baby was not cooperating, she tried everything to get him to move and we got lovely shots! Such a pity that the person that did yours was so awful... It's such a special thing to do!

@Newbiemom... So lovely that you are having a baby shower. By the way... There is no truth to the heart beat sexing thing... My little boy has been in the girl range a lot... Depends on what he is doing. I am Also feeling consumed and a bit panicked by my pregnancy... We have only just started on the baby room and we finally bought a cot but we have nothing else.

@Faffymum... I had such a giggle about the skinny pregnant girl... I feel the same. Haha. I hope they do not take you off the epidural coz ouch! The hypnobirthing is apparently amazing... Two of my friends have done it and gotten through two births without hectic complaining.

@gloei... You amaze me... You have amazing self control! I open a chocolate and don't stop until I finish it... I also discovered microwave cake in a mug and have been making chocolate cake... Been taking all my will power to spread it between two days and not eat it all at once. And your exercise regime... I am in awe!

So now I get to my complaining... I am sure you ladies have had enough of me... I have had enough of this pregnancy! I started having intermittent contractions about 10 days ago.... They could not figure out what was causing it. I was admitted to hospital yesterday. I had been having regular contractions for 36 hours, they started Sunday evening.They put me on labour suppressants and monitored me but the drugs had bad side effects. After 24 hours they took me off the drugs and the contractions started again. So now I am in hospital indefinitely... I had my first steroid shot to dry develop the baby quicker, they have switched my labour suppressants and they have put me on an antibiotic just in case it's an infection causing the contractions. Basically they have no idea what is causing it... My tests have all come back normal and the baby is growing at a rate of knots... He is 300 grams larger than average. He seems completely fine... Besides being positioned with his head right by my cervix. I have now been told that I have an irritable uterus and that I am suffering from inexplicable (the doctor used a much fancier word) contractions. I am so frustrated... My poor hubby is so stressed and worried. I know they are doing the best they can but I can't help feeling very angry at the world at the moment.

faffymum@ its horrible how you have to cough up so much for something so natural and non risky. Its like you are being punished for having a child.
Gloie@ wow, that is alot. What are we paying them for? Most of us have m/aids for pregnancy only to find you are basically paying for you own birth again.
Thank fully Pmb is cool today, no heat and exhaustion.
My scan was ok, for a R2000 (thats the price their form stated, if I dont deliver there I have to pay that for it) scan I wasnt impressed this time around. The lady was impatient and she only had a few appointments that day. We saw a glimpse of baby. He was FAST asleep. Previous day had a scan at the gp as i needed a referal letter and he was busy and turning. On the 4d he was asleep that when the lady was shoving my stomach (yes shoving trying to wake him up :o, i was shocked) , he didnt bother. Its as if he didnt want to see her or hear her. I have a dvd but there isnt much, we saw his face eventually though and he is a spitting image of his dad and brother. He has his dads lips while his bro has mine.
My reflux is not decreasing much. My stomach muscles are sore at times. I sleep on countless pillows. I love fruits so much and eat them alot but have to have bicarb with water afterwards to help with the reflux. I am tired alot, i exercise alot now but my biggest exercise now is walking nonstop at the mall.

oh ja...I saw a pic of someone who was heavily pregnant but super skinny...it looked super odd..I decided that if I feel like that ice cream or chocolate...I'd rather be a cute podgy preggy girl than a skinny bony preggy girl with a monstrous belly

Hi ladies. Oh my word, the medical aid thing is a tough one hey. Our medical aid covers the hospital but I am still waiting to hear how much of the doc fees they cover..but since my gynae is not on their list of service providers, it wont be fully covered...still waiting to hear how much we will pay extra. It is really the last thing a preggy lady should be worrying about. Anyways...they only have service providers at hospitals I am not keen on going to. Sad that they don't pay to cover your home birth. All about making money as usual. Good luck sorting it all out ladies. x

nels_n, let us know how the 4D scan was

Newbiemom, pregnancy and birth is totally consuming my mind as well. I have got my hubby in the same boat..he is now buying cloth nappies for us..lol

My hubby also picked a name for our baby that I didn't like at first..but then I saw how excited he was about the name and how much it meant to him and I started liking it and now I think it's quite cool and adventure boy like But I get to name our second one, if we choose to have another.

I have started hypnobirthing classes. reading the book and listening to the relaxation CDs every day all day pretty much. I really hope it helps. I am so scared of birth day but I know now that I have to let go and stay as calm as possible. Anyone had a successful birth using hypnobirthing? I was going to get an epidural..but now I am starting to wonder if I should. I heard that they take you off the epidural just before you have to push baby out anyways???

Oh Nels, I can't imagine how upset you must be! Can't believe they kept you waiting all this time and now this answer! I wish there was a helpful medical aid scheme, because so far i just hear everyone complain about their scheme! I haven't had the energy yet to fill in their long lists of forms with codes etc for them to give me an indication of what they will pay...will probably have to get going on that! Can't believe the hospital is so strict to only allow one birthing partner - So disappointing!!

Unfortunately the hospital only allows 1 birthing partner, so using a doula ix also out. The frustrating part is that I had been fighting to get the amounts since about August last year and was repeatedly told only the service provider is privy to that information. Yesterday was the last straw, I had to basically threaten them for them to give me the information. So if i end up with a cs the amount I pay increases. Its sad. It is totally upside down. They pay for the most expensive but not the reasonable. We pay so much but they don't keep the end of their deal. Its horrible.
