Hi PP

Luckily my washing machine has a AAA+ energy rating, so it uses minimal energy and water. Obviously for the more heavy soiled nappies, I'll soak it before washing.

Here's some of the sites that came highly recommended and that I will be making use of:

www.snugglybum.co.za
mini-mee.co.za
www.babagear.co.za/products-page-2/nappy-packs/
www.bamboobaby.co.za/

My friend also referred me to NappyShack.

On the cuddlers - we used cuddlers during the day when our LG was in crèche. As it was the best value for money when having to send 10 nappies to school each day. At home and during the night we would then use Huggies or Pampers - whichever was on special.

It's all about personal choice...

Oh yes - on the cloth nappies: They say that you shouldn't buy all your nappies from one place. You should rather buy 2 or 3 from different places and then take the time to decide which one works best for you. Some for example work best at night and other nappy covers, works better with another brands liners and inserts for example.

There's actually a thread on the Moomie community about cloth nappies, and it's VERY informative!!!

Take note - it can be VERY overwhelming when you look into cloth nappies at first... It's not just one nappy with one insert and one liner... there's A LOT of things to research! Best would be to find someone who's using cloth nappies in your area and who can advise you through the process.

@LouiseMarie – please do post links. I've been leaning towards disposables because I don't know how well DH and I will do with cleaning cloth nappies. The thing that puts me off though is how it will affect the electricity and water bill with the increased washing? The savings on the actual nappies are great, but how much do you really save in the grand scheme of things? Obviously cloth is better for the environment...

Wow!!! Congratulations HVDB!!!! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

That is a BIG surprise! Enjoy every minute driving your new car!
One thing about purchasing a travel system now, is that you don't have to worry too much about how compact it folds up to, as you'll have enough space :)

About the nappies... sho...

It's difficult as you don't know the sex of the baby... In my opinion Huggies Gold. But I've heard from friends and people who have boys that Huggies don't work as well for boys and that they prefer Pampers?

Mind you - since my daughter was on nappies a good 4 years ago, the Huggies nappies have changed. Instead of one unisex nappy, they now have the Huggies Gold for boys and for girls... But then again - which one do you buy, as you don't know the sex?

I have newborn to size 3 nappies, but I'm going to be brave and go the cloth nappy route... I've heard wonderful things about it and decided it's a good option for us. I'm however NOT planning on using the different size cloth nappies (defies the purpose a bit in my opinion) and will opt for the "all in one" bamboo nappy that "grows" with baby. I have already been told that these nappies only fit perfectly when baby is 4kg - so up until 4kg I'll use disposables. But I'm really looking forward to it!!! Those cloth nappies are so damn cute!!!

The one thing about disposables that pee'd me off a bit with my daughter, was the fact that the daycare/crèche will insist you send 8 - 10 nappies to school EVERY day, but they never send the remaining nappies back to me at the end of the day. Over weekends and public holidays I then started noticing that my daughter would then only use 4 nappies during the day... So where did the other 6 nappies go to each day?! Turns out they'll use anyone else's surplus nappies if another baby doesn't have enough nappies... And trust me - this also happened to numerous friends and colleagues who's kids were in other daycare/crèches.

So with cloth nappies, you completely cut that out. Just the saving alone was enough to make me switch over!!!!

So maybe look into that? If needed I can send you some links of the different cloth nappies I'm purchasing.

Welcome back Stelliesmama and good to hear from you HVDB. If it's any consolation, I think I'm the only PE mom to be here. And our baby expo apparently isn't too great. My friend that went up to JHB to host the Quinny stand for that expo said her company doesn't even bother with the PE expo  There's supposed to be a kid & baby expo in the first week of October so we'll see...

@HVDB – have you tried propping yourself up with pillows? I use one of those pregnancy pillows (the long ones) that I latch onto and then have another pillow wedged under me to the side so that I can lean my back against it. That way I get that little bit of support against my back, but am still lying on my side. The midwife running my antenatal class said that lying on your back with your legs elevated can also sometimes help, but that's more for leg cramps.

I had another rather vivid sexual dream last night... it seems like I'm in the mood when I'm sleeping. Lol!

As far as nappies go, I know my SIL is using Huggies. Apparently for the very first nappies you need in hospital the Huggies are best 'cause they have a cut out for the cord (also recommended by midwife). All I've picked up over time is to avoid Cuddlers like the plague!

For the mamas expecting boys, are you going to look into changing cups? Hehe, like this: www.toysrus.com/buy/portable-changing-pa...kle-lil-star-2574753
My mom always said she just used to throw a fresh nappy down over my brother as soon as she took the dirty nappy off when she changed him. When she had me, the nurses watched her change me and do the same so they knew she had a boy at home :silly:

Hi All... golly, took me some time to catch up on all the posts... a lot of fun reading it :P

I will put my two cents worth on all the topics discussed the last couple of days, well will try cause can't remember all of it... pregnesia... eish....

Appetite, don't have one at all, only eat when hungry and then it is only a little bit. I have not gained any weight at all, still weighing the same as when I was 8 weeks, I did pick up weight with the hormone treatment as we did IUI. I have always been rather skinny and then I am tall as well. I do have a problem with intestines being eina most of the time, doesn't matter what I eat, it gives me cramps, and most of the time a runny tummy (sorry tmi) about half an hour after I have eaten. Thinking that is why I am not picking up weight... seeing my gynea next week, will have a chat to her, maybe I should try the shake... ( although I have never ever liked shakes) I also struggle with a sore back though, I find that lying on my back (only for a short time as it is not good for baba and not very comfy) on the electric blankie on our bed helps, but as soon as I am up it is sore again. I also struggle with bloatedness... so I feel really uncomfortable the last couple of days. The only time I feel sort of good is when I am standing... *sigh*

Shopping.. we have not purchased anything at all... except for a little t-shirt with a Giraffe that says Namibia when we were on honeymoon, we bought ourselves each one... and then thought that we are not two any more and that baby must also get one... that was and is so far the only thing we have bought. We started looking at travel systems and camping cot but only pricing and checking quality. Checking out all the websites for specials etc.
OH OH OH wait, we did buy something big, Hubby bought me a new car, :woohoo: I drove a little Nissan Micra and hubby decided that it is not safe enough, so he bought me a Ford Kuga. SO SO SO blessed.

DREAMS!!!! OMW, is it a pregnancy thing to have really vivid sexual dreams?   My Hubby is obviously the opposite of your hubbies, don't know if he doesn't have that type of appetite at the moment, but since my belly popped, he doesn't want to do anything, not even foreplay. Maybe the belly puts him off... but it is ok, it is not forever and he does fall asleep with his hand on my belly (under my shirt ;) )

BABA - I feel baba a lot, almost every hour there is movement, and all over, from the sides of my belly to above and below my navel. Kicking up a storm as I am typing this message.

With you guys (well most of you) that are NOT first time mommy's what brand nappies are the best, Pampers or Huggies? I have heard so many different stories, what are your takes on it as I want to start adding it to our weekly shopping list.

OK that is me for now... Hubby is in Cape Town on business, and my spine is begging to be introduced the electric blanket and mattress on our bed, so I am going to feel very sorry for myself and get into bed! Have a good one this weekend...

Hi StelliesMama!

Aden is also from the Cape, so maybe you girls should hook up for the Expo?

Urgh...I'm starting to get nasty headaches again. And Panado only helps so much. :(

Have a lovely evening mommies!

XxXx

Hi ladies!!

I have spent the past 2 hours at work catching up on all your posts - I haven't been on for over a month; and then only a single post. It's been entertaining, informative and great to get to "know" you all. And it's been a naughty but fun distraction from work today :P

So to add to the list - we're keeping our little one a surprise. It's our first one. EDD 22 November

We have our 20 week anomaly scan on Tuesday, getting so nervous for it - yet I cannot wait to see the little one again. I have definitely started to feel it move.

It seems like most of you ladies are up in JHB. I'm from Stellenbosch, so excited for the Baba Indaba Expo at the end of the month.

Thanks for all the info regarding the Vitality bag, I threw my letter away, but have my email and am definitely going to sign up to Dischem.

I loved reading all your stories so much that I'll definitely be touching base a lot more!
