Lol! Reminds me of that song:

"That's not my name... That's not my name... That's not my name!"

Gosh...guess what song I'm going to have in my head the rest of the day! :silly:

Welcome Nono

@Candypops – I hope you are feeling better! It's terrible being sick and pregnant!

I hope your shower woes are sorted out. Some people are just too much. Most people I know say that they didn't get a shower with their second baby, unless there was a big gap between children (or different genders). I remember having a similar problem when my husband and I were wanting to get engaged. His sister had got engaged about 6 months before and told him that we weren't allowed to get engaged until they had got married  I was pissed off 'cause we had been together for almost five years while her and her then-fiance had only been dating for maybe a year or more so I felt like they had "jumped the gun". Fortunately she eventually relented and we ended up getting engaged (while their relationship fell apart). I then had a similar problem, but in reverse with my brother because I had no issue with them getting engaged, but I asked for them to try plan their wedding to be nicely separated from ours. Then I was the bad guy when I told them that I wasn't happy with them getting married in September when we were getting married in December because I was worried about my parents not being able divide time/resources adequately between us in the short space of time. Aside from the fact that I was trying to finish off my Masters in time for my wedding and would need to travel for theirs. Either way it was sorted out, but I didn't appreciate the comparisons with my husband's sister.

@Lillyr – I don't know how you tolerate your FIL behaving like that! I would be furious if someone continuously referred to my child by a name that wasn't hers (unless it's a pet name). I'm glad you can laugh about it, but I think I would tell that person off in no uncertain terms about how confusing it is for the child and how disrespected I feel as a parent!

@candypops - so sorry about swine flu. I hope you are feeling much better and that baby is fine. I think you should just focus on yourself and forget about your sister in law, honestly she should not be competing with you. she should let you have your moment. I have a similar situation with my sister in law, i am having my second, she is having her first. I am very excited for her, and have told everyone i wont be having a shower(this is my second child you know), so we all are giving her the attention. So i think your SIL is being selfish really, she should back off, or rather let you have yuor shower first. I think though that the family will still give you better gift than her since this is yuor first. Just focus on yuorself and enjoy the journey, dont let her ruin this for you

welcome Nono. Do you know the gender yet? tell us a bit more about yuorself :)

@pillpusher and Louise.. thanks i will try it. This forum is so helpful. thanks ladies.

on the names- my MIL had a problem with the names we gave our daughter. she even settled for the second name. FIL...gave the baby his own name. he is the only one who uses the name. so you can imagine the shock in my daughter's face everytime the name comes up, cos he always has to remind her that he is talking to her :silly:

Oh my gosh CandyPops - you vent all you have to my dear! {HUGS}

Pregnancy is such a special time and each mother deserves to have the spotlight on her - especially with your first!!!!!

But don't you worry - your SIL seems like a very pushy person...So I'm sure the other family members will also pick up on it. And a lot of people I know, for some reason have the feeling "I'll contribute if it's your first, but not if it's your 2nd". Especially if they are aged closed together...

Just ignore your SIL (easier said than done - I "shunned" my eldest brother out of my life due to his jealous, idiotic wife... Best decision I ever made!)
Even after we all went to a family wedding last weekend, she still haven't even "acknowledged" my pregnancy...

Anyway - don't show her that's she's getting to you.

As for your cousin - I'm sure the family is gossiping about her behind her back! Don't take it as all "good" attention... Secretly all the parents are probably hoping and praying that it won't ever happen to their daughter/s!

Think of how blessed you are not being in her shoes!!! I bet you she's more jealous of you, having it all together!

Shame man, good luck on the Swine Flu!!!! You and baby okay at least? Back in 2009 when I was pregnant with my daughter, it just broke out in SA as well as a meningitis "outbreak"... everyone was too scared to leave their homes! And now the exact same thing is happening again...

As if pregnancy on its own is stressful enough!

Hi Ladies

Sorry I have been a bit quiet, unfortunately I have been on bed rest the last week or two with swine flu.

Welcome all new mommies and so exciting seeing all the photo's revealing the baby's gender

The only thing we have really purchased so far is a convertible baby cot. We are also trying to find the best travel system that is reasonably priced but will just have to look some more as we haven't decided yet. We keep getting told to only really go crazy buying baby items after the baby shower, not too sure about this!haha

In terms of names we have set our minds to Brody but now my SIL is thinking of naming her boy Jody and my cousin is having a boy as well and wants to name him Braden.

Keeping in mind we are all a week apart and unfortunately I am right in the middle. It has taken me a while to get use to the situation especially since this is our first baby and now on both sides of the family there is a pregnancy with only a week difference. I know it may not seem like a big deal but can be frustrating. Since in my cousins situation she is young (20 years old) still living at home with no job, she pretty much gets all the attention in the family it seems and the family feels sorry for her and is trying to support her and then my SIL found out and announced her pregnancy a week after we did that she is pregnant with her 2nd child and she demands attention. But now the problem comes in with baby showers as my SIL wants hers in August (only due end of OCT) after she found out I am having mine beginning of Sept. and seems to be pushing to have hers first for some reason and not even sure of when my cousin would be having hers. Just feels like this will be a yearly struggle now with the baby's birthdays as I was adamant when everyone announced their pregnancies, I will be wanting nothing shared - so no baby showers/nappies parties or birthday parties in the future will be shared. I know I am probably sounding selfish but I cant help it!

Sorry for the vent ladies... every things has just been building up
