StelliesMama, pardon my language: but fuck that shit!!!

I would write an e-mail to Woolworths and Baby City's customer care and tell them the rude and obnocscious behaviour from the tellers! If you have the slip, give the date and time you visited the shop as well as the name of the teller!!! It'd completely unprofessional!!!

I'm fed up with people getting away with this kind of treatment! I would even inform HR of my colleagues behaviour, saying that it's borderline discrimination/victimization... but then again - that's probably why I'm currently unemployed. Either way - it shouldn't be tollerated!

Maybe Baby City & Woolies will send you a nice gift to apologise?

@stelliesmama - i am so sorry hey, some people seriously need to grow up, especially the preggy ones with stupid comments. Like seriously do they think you have control over how yuor body handles pregnancy? some people! Look, if you really want to put your mind at ease, go for it, but personally i think its a wasteful excercise. Your gynae would have told you if they were worried. In one of the forum here, one mommy gave birth to a 3.7kg baby i think..so honestly i dont think you should worry about baby's weight. I am told i am skinny, too small for a nov baby..i am doing the best i can, and seriously its beyond me if i dont gain as much. Dont stress hun...rather use the 1.5k and spoil you and baba, i dont think there is any new info you will pick up at the fetal Speacialist..but that is just my 2 cents ***hugs****

Hi ladies

Sorry I’ve been so quiet again been reading your posts daily. I’ve just been so down – and reading your recent comments at least I don’t feel alone. Here’s my rant:

I’m so sick and tired of people having the need to say something about my pregnancy. Here’s just a few:

Baby City teller: When are you due? I told him – he raised his eyebrow and I then asked him “Why do you ask”. His response – “Because you’re so big”. Boom – tears welled up in my eyes.

My own mother after last scan: “Please my darling – do not even consider natural birth with such a big baby.” And then gave me 4 horror stories of her friends 30 years ago.

My colleague number 1: “Only difference between you and that guy (his wife is pregnant) is you put on all the weight.

My colleague number 2: Lady walks into office who due 2 days after me. “Wow – why aren’t you as big as her – pointing at me!” I had to leave work I couldn't stop crying!

Friend due 3 weeks after me: "Wow you seem to be growing a big baba in there!" (A PREGNANT woman to another!) Sorry that I am not anorexic!

Woolworths teller: "You must be carrying a girl with all the pigmentation in your face!"

This has been in the last 2 weeks. I’ve fallen into such a depression about it. I had my scan last week Monday – baby weighing in at 1.8kg’s at 30 weeks – so yes it is big – but not off the charts. But just hearing “big” made me burst into tears. All I hear is “big big big”. As I write this I am crying my eyes out.

So what I then did is go see a nutritionist – she says my weight gain is fine. I have also booked to go back to fetal assessment instead of my normal scan so that they can put my mind at ease. So just these comments are costing me another R1500.

Rant done ...

Hi ladies

@LouiseM - I've also got a little bit of a pigmentation issue, but not as bad. I've got a yellow mark next to my right eye that has spread down a bit underneath it. And I found that where I've had some bad pimples they've left marks which I haven't had happen before. I hope it goes away. I'm still confident enough to go around bare-faced (make-up is a lot of effort for me), but I think it might affect my self-esteem more after pregnancy.

@Clueless - I actually found out about micro-birthing after LouiseM mentioned the gentle C-section and I googled it. Basically when you go into the ward they insert a swab in your vagina so that your secretions and micro-organisms are present on it. After your baby emerges, they wipe the baby down with the swab, even exposing her mouth to it so that she'll get the same kind of exposure that she would have got from a natural birth. It's theorised that this will assist baby to accumulate more good bacteria and such which may help with colon, allergy and asthmatic conditions which are often associated with C-section babies. The research is still very new, but it makes a lot of sense to do it. Fortunately the hospital that I'm delivering at is baby-friendly so she'll be checked out by the paed and the go skin-to-skin without being washed first which is supposed to also help with assimilation of good bacteria and building up immunity.

Oh yes, on the birthday party... My daughter's birthday is less than 2 weeks before my due date - so I'm NOT looking forward to it...although with all the baby hype going on, I feel she deserves something special. And I'm still clueless as to what to do... thinking of something like a "Little Princess Pamper Party". Then she and 4 of her best friends can go and I have no stress to arrange something.

Spur is a great idea! If you've never held it there, go for it!!! The kids LOVE it, it's cheap, they get their food, ice cream, cooldrink and a party pack for something like R50 per kiddo and best of all: you don't have to clean up afterwards!!! I only took a cake or cupcakes along for Elmarise (and trust me - cakr wastes!!!) For some reason everyone goes for cupcakes...

Hi Clueless...

Unfortunately my pigmentation from my first pregnancy never went away after the pregnancy. So it's been 6 years...and I'm extremely sensitive about it.

I actually took a class in stage make up, just to learn how to get perfect coverage.

I have this massive mark on my forehead - I call it my map of Africa, as it's the ecact shape and covers 1/3 of my forehead... Luckily there is some great chemical peals available, but it takes time...and a LOT of it...not too mention the cost involved

I feel much better today - possibly due to the cooler weather, so I'm not complaining! ;)

Good Morning Ladies

I had the worst night ever last night. I was thirsty the hole time and the more water I drank the more I had to get up to go to the loo.

But beside that I can feel baby moving down and it comes as a great relief because there is now less pressure on my ribs. Feels like I can breath again :)

@PP - Happy to hear your Dr is keen on the micro-birthing. I am also going to ask my Dr about that. I have read that most hospitals encourage this but it all depends on how baby is doing after he is born. I also know how you feel regarding the c-sec. We were told when I was 20 weeks pregnant. My Dr reviewed all my x-rays that I had and he was very concerned. So we have made piece with the hole c-sec. I am not looking forward to it but whats best for baby is the most important. Wishing you best of luck and sending lots of hugs

@Lilly - happy you could keep your cool. Before I got pregnant I never realized what mommies really go trough and the added pressure of people making nasty comments is the last thing we should have to put up with. What ever happened to just saying congratulations.

@Juanita - Cute bunny :)

Hope everyone will have a lovely day - the weather here in PTA is amazing so despite the no sleep I am in a good mood.
