@Mommyjay : It is my first pregnancy.
I did went for bloodworks. My doctor told me I can wait for 3-4 weeks and then come in and see him for a scan or I can go for bloodworks. Made me feel better when the doctor called me and told me that my blood results look very good.
It is more reassuring knowing that your levels are looking good, so if you are worried then I will suggest that you maybe go for blood test just to reassure you.

Congrats Nicci!
Your 1st or 3rd little one?
I really wish you all the best.
Gosh I'm just as concerned, but trying to stay positive. All I want to know is that all is ok.

Scan dates:
18/8: Annabelle
19/8: BellasMom
31/8: Mommyjay
1st week Sept: Nicci

Exciting times ahead!

Would you ladies recommend blood tests from now to my 1st scan? I definitely know I'm pg, maybe just to put my mind at ease seeing the increased hormone levels?

Hi everyone.

I am new this group. I found out last Sunday that I am pregnant and Tuesday went for blood works and the doctor phoned me on the public holiday to confirm that I am indeed pregnant. So I am about 5weeks 3 days pregnant today. Our thirst child, super excited and scared that something can go wrong, but we are positive that everything will go perfect. DH is extremely excited as he had some issues, and we had a 1% chance of falling pregnant.
I am seeing the doctor in the first week of September for a scan.

Wishing everyone a happy and healthy pregnancy.

Hi Pokkeltjie :) Thanks for the info on the doctor in the northern suburbs. Im on Fedhealth. My doctor is on the cheaper side, I was surprised at how much she asked for my c-section, compared to what many other doctors charge. Hoping that is still the case! Unfortunately Fedhealth only covers 100% if the doctor is not on the network.

@ Bellasmom - I actually went to that specific gynae you are mentioning as I couldn't find another woman gynae in the Northern Suburbs as they are not taking on new patients. The gynae I now have was on leave at the time and I didn't want to wait before seeing a gynae. The staff are very friendly there, but I felt no connection with the gynae. She does what she needs to do, but didn't feel very welcoming and didn't really make me feel at ease.
When I found out I was pregnant I made a booking with Dr Karina Janse van Rensburg at Panaroma - she is absolutely lovely!
Felt at ease the moment I met her - so glad to have her as my gynae!

On what medical aid are you? I am on Dicovery Classic Comprehensive which covers up to 200% - luckily at time of birth she charges 200% - her consultations are a bit more than 200% though

Don't stress too much about the pains - period like pains are very normal in the first few weeks of pregnancy (as long as it is not accompanied by blood or extremely painful) and after that you will feel twitches and pains from time to time....this is just your uterus and ligaments that are stretching

Good luck girls - wishing you a healthy/happy pregnancy :)

Mommyjay, most doctors wont see you before 8 weeks anyway ;)

I havent changed my doctor - I really like her and because I will be having a c-section again, Im too scared to try someone new - my doctor is very modern, I did not have external stitches or staples and she is very safety aware, I hear that many other doctors still do external stitches and staples etc, I would not want that at all!! ;(

So at this stage Im thinking of just sucking it up and paying in the difference. I looked at my medical aid's network yesterday and from what I can see, the only female doctors in Cape Town on my network is dr Basson at Christiaan Barnard and one other doctor in Durbanville. I googled the doctor in Durbanville, and the search turned up articles on a doctor with exactly the same name and suburb as her who was found guilty of negligence a few years back after a patient died after a hysterectomy  So I dont want to go to her, and Dr Basson is very busy. I work in town so Christiaan Barnard would be perfect for appointments, BUT I live in Bellville so when baby is born my family would have to travel far every day to get to the hospital.

I remember that pain in an ovary, I had that with my first baby. I have small stabs and aches and pains throughout the day, on and off. Also worried, but on the other hand it's probably all normal!
