Hi, just a quick post, a selfish one too 'cos I dont have time to say hi to everyone :-(

Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes yesterday. Had such a nice day! Went to Papachinos, Nathan slept through lunch so I could eat with 2 hands like a normal person, and Sarah played till she dropped! DH met us there, so all round it was lovely!

Today we are back to normal... Nathan has cried non stop most of the time and Sarah is playing up - pulling my hair, hitting, screaming. I am beyond reason! I have actually made an appointment with our regualr Paed for tomorrow for Nathan. I dont know what more to do. Its great he sleeps from 9ish in the evening till 6am. But NOTHING during the day. He is happy if I sit with him, and then he power naps, but I cant just sit with him all day. Impossible. So we'll see what the Dr says tomo. My gynae changed my medication to the original (was previously on a generic) and he believes it will help.??? My iron levels are low bordering normal, and thats with an extra iron supplement after the bf vitamin, so it doesnt help the situation either!

Other than that we are suriving, even though its not much fun all the time.

Hi and welcome to all the new mommies! I will write some personals one evening when I have a break.

DH is on leave for 2 weeks, so looking forward to some help.

Love to u all

Hi all,

Sorry for being missing again just so busy

Suhaila- yes on pg 120 of may's L&L, my hubby wrote a stroy for their men behaving dadly page. Won a R5500 Jeep hamper for it too! Bit gutted because he wrote it to get the twin pram they were giving away at the time but now they've changed the prize and it looks like a single pram and jeep baby carrier, might try and flog it on Moomie so I can go buy a double.
sorry to hear Aaqil has a runny tummy do you think it can be teething nappies? Jono has had runny sour nappies for over 2 weeks now but there's no other symptoms of illness so I think it must be tweething nappies, I never had it with C so this is all new to me. Even having raised one child past this stage I'm still learning everyday.

Mandz- thanks for your kind words, you are the sweetest person, you're always so happy and positive and so frienndly, you deserve the 'nicest person' award! X

Meags- well done for trying BF again and yay for Matthieu sucking well for 5 min. His symptoms sound to me like a bad case of reflux but I'm sure you already had that diagnosis hey? Over here they prescribe Losec for reflux but it almost never works on bad cases. For C the key was soy milk but it might take a few days for him to settle because by now his eusophogus and everything is probably quite inflamed from the constant burning from stomach acids. I was amazed at the difference it made to C, he bacme a different baby. He was bad collic and reflux and by 3m it still hadn't gone so I just switched him to isomil and he started to get better. I don't believe things like chiro and physio help a real bad colic baby because they don't help cure the reflux and that's the most disturbing for them.

Binks- try to give Vanya a little buscopan and see if it helps push all those cramps out, maybe that's why she's fighting you when drinking. Have you considered putting her on solids from 4m? Alex started messing around not drinking and complaining all the time so I tried him on cereal and suddenly he was happier and started to drink more again, odd I know but it seemed to work and he is now so happy.

Mandz- about the purity, sometimes nothing you do will be right for other people but you know what, tough sh1t, you do what is right for you. I made all of C's puree's and froze them in silicone muffin trays, then I take the individual portions and put them in freezer bags, when we went out I would take a block and put it in a small tuppaware, it's as easy as purity in a jar except you know your child will eat it. I have about 6 purity jars in my cupboard, empty ones from times with C when I got caught out and I would pop into a store and buy a jar quick. It doesn't do them any harm but I did find that C didn't like the purity because the homemade stuff was so much nicer. As for what next, well they recommend you stick to yellow veg at first so butternnut, sweet potato, pumpkin, carrot, you can try fruits but thay do warn to try all the veg first because the fruit is sweeter it's better to get their palate used to the beg or they won't accept it after too much fruit. Once you've done the yellow veg you can pretty much try anything but bear in mind that what gives us gas goves them gas too. C used to love spinach and that's really great for their growing bodies. I will start to introduce protien around 2 months into starting solids, they get to a point where they need the protien for good growth and development, start with chicken though it's the easiest to make smooth, there was a website with all kinds of recipies for baby food, annalise something, I don't know will go look it up. Basically once you have tried each ingredient seperate so you can exclude allergens then you can get as creative as you like making a full roast if you wish.

Errr who next

MommyN- happy birthday for yesterday, did you get my sms? I have a feeling my cellphone tower is down again, I've sent a ton of sms that people aren't receiving.

hi ladies

well I tried the boobie yesterday...
the morning attempt was disastrous as he was hysterical before I could even pump to get the letdown going...so I just tried a little. he latched and sucked 2 or 3 sucks and did that a few times but screamed in between. even when I gave him the bottle after he did the same with the bottle.

anyway the whole day all his feeds were a disaster...no idea what was wrong with him.

so the 6pm feed I decided to try again. So I pumped to let down and my mom gave him some bottle to calm him.
then once calm I quickly put him to the boob and voila! like he never didnt BF!
He latched instantly and sucked continuously for 5 solid minutes, no resting or stopping of sucking. he then needed to burp. after the burp he was hysterical and didnt want boob or bottle. so I just settled on finishing the feed with the bottle. what a struggle! But I was so chuffed he BF for 5 minutes :) ok it's not long...But it was so effortless!

so then my mom, DH and I started pondering and googling why he is so iffy all the time. and started researching allergies to Breastmilk etc. after all that, we decided to give him formula for 36 hours and see if there is any change (soy based) to identify if he is unhappy with the breastmilk or if its something else. so he has had the soy formula for 10pm, 2am, 6am, 10am, 2pm and 6pm feed so far. and so far there is no change. so I will stick it out until tomorrow afternoon then we are back to the breastmilk and BF attempts.
I have to say that I am feeling quite sad that I cant try the BF now. But I really do want to stick to soy only thing to see if anything changes. so just half a day more to go.
seeing the paed tomorrow for the 1 month check up so will see his thoughts on why Matt hates eating.
He really kicks up a serious fuss for breast or bottle. and it seems the same for breastmilk or formula. it's like he hates eating. he is always so tense, fists clenched, legs kicking furiously and arms flying everywhere. I actually have to swaddle him to get him to eat and even then it's like I am trying to kill him. its really bizarre...i have no idea what is wrong with him or how to make it easier?!
I am thinking that when I start the BF again, to just put him on the boob every 90 minutes or if he wakes before then, put him to the boob immediately. even if he is asleep, let him wake up on the boob so that he has no time to be hysterical.

I cant believe the amount of things we have tried and tested to get this baby to just chill out! saw a cranial sacral therapist twice...it made no difference. we see a chiro 3 days per week. I think there has been a small change but not significant enough to get excited over. gosh it better resolve at the magical 3 month mark!

hi ladies,

i feel so sorry for my little ashley. she is ill again. UTI and started with a cold today too. in the 5 weeks she has been at creche she has had 3 courses of antibiotics and been home for 3 weeks of the 5 weeks.

discussed with DH and i proposed the following to him:

- get another nanny in. someone younger than gloria (to pay less and train up)
- ash stays home for the rest of the year and we re-evaluate in january next year.
- sell spare cot / single pram etc... to make money back to finance the 2nd maid.
- the house duties will be shared between the 2 of them and so will my babies. they will be be happy and heallthy and i can go to work with no extra stress with having CONSTANTLY sick kids. if i take unpaid leave for days that i am sick with kids, i lose about R1000 per day off my salary, which is so not viable.

unfortunately i am in no position financially to stay home myself with my girls but i can cut out other things (such as smoking) to assist a second salary.

i have 10 days before i go back to work to sort this issue out.

anyway, over t you guys...

suhaila - how are you doing? hope your little man feels better. do you give him the reuteri drops? apparently they are fantastic for their little tummies.

mandz - i could not find your birth story.

corgans - tx for the link to your brith story. it was very emotional for me and i realise how lucky i was to have my baby come at 38w and not earlier, even though i did not get the birth experience i wanted.

vix - how the little C today? has he been loving his mommy?

chris - have those little pearlies come through Alessandro's gums yet?

The good news is that its just 3 more sleeps until we go to Gwahumbe spa and game reserve. We have a game drive booked, and I'm going for a body foiliation, milk and honey hydro bath and african wood massage. Hi everyone

How is everyone doing?

Vix- Lovely article in Living and Loving, hope you get your prize soon! How are things with C now?

Meags- you are a fighter, how are things going? Stop being so hard on yourslef, you are doing an amazing job! And nomatter what way you feed M, whats most important is a happy, healthy baby AND MOMMY, remember that....hang in there things will get better.

corgansmom I knew everyone would be inspired by your story, thanks for sharing it with us :-)

Binks-Is Vanya taking the bottle now?

Chris- Wow teething already? I know what you mean that you are excited and sad...its like that with every milestone, you cant wait for it to happen and then when it does you know there is no going back and that they arent going to be babies for much longer. So im sure the girls will join him soon then...Jordyn has been eating his hands for like ever now, and I often think he is teething, but like they say the prep can take a long time before the pearlers appear...looking forward to that moment.

Suhaila- you been quiet?

Suriya- Glad the sewing was good:-) Important to do stuff thats dear to you.

Other than that, Jordyn is now on day 3 of butternut, and I will admit he definitely has a prefernce to the rice cereal cos he seems to be more eager with it. I wonder what to introduce next, sweet potato? Carrot? fruit? Can we do fruit? Any suggestions? I am proud that I cooked for him and froze the rest... What are your thoughts on Purity food when you are out or in a pickle? I know there are threads here that are very against it, but looking at the bottle, most of them are pure and no added salt or sugar, and no preservatives-which I do wonder about as they have a shelf life...Just wondering thats all. Cos really to cook is no biggie for me, I just mean if we are away or cant get a certain fruit/veg is it an ok option?
