question-circle The fine print on the Mommy contract

My son is 2years 3months old.

When I apply for the next baby I am gonna tick the Daddy box. There is no way in hell I am doing the mommy thing again. Daddy just has more fun.

Anyhoo..... pregnancy was a blast. Loved every minute. Birth...scared shitless.. but turned out not to be so bad. (c-sec)

Before the birth I read alot about the joy and love every mom felt when they first saw their child.... me ... not so much.
I didnt feel that... I did however think he was a tad ugly and cried so much about the guilt of that thought that everyone thought that I had baby blues.

I didn't fall in love with my son , I grew in love with him. Fellow mothers telling me how it was love at first sight only raised my expectation of that moment. The moment came and it didn't happen. Because it didn't happen GUILT came streaming in with full force.

Nobody can perpare you for the guilt. Why is he crying ? Is he warm enough? Is it my fault he is constipated?BLAH BLAH BLAH BLEH

My son was 10 days old when I packed away the guilt. I decided , so what if it is my fault he is not gonna know or remember. Sorry you got me as your mommy. I dont see any other mommy around, so kiddo its me and you.

When I now get assvice from other people I just smile ( esspecially those who do not have children yet ).

I struggled for the first 6 weeks, because you give and give and give with nothing in return. BUT THEN... that first smile OH... that first smile.

I see my life with my son as 'n old fasioned scale. The scale of mommy gives and mommy gets ( sound horrible but work with me here ) I have been giving and receiving the last two years. The scale was tipped all the way on the giving side for the first year, then it receiving side gained a bit. I am now at the stage that the scale is equal. i dont mind all the hard work - because I am getting so much more in turn.

I hope my babling makes sense to someone.

Oh & to complete the story, once she heard our giggles (as much as we were trying to keep it down), she stopped coo-ing& chatting, pulled herself to her feet by the side of the cot and stood staring at us waiting for someone to come pick her up    again tried to ignore her but that didn't work, so she spent the rest of the night in our bed cos my need for sleep at that moment far outweighed my need to teach her that she couldn't sleep in mommy&daddy's bed and had to learn to spend the whole night in her cot etc etc... ;)

Ladies, absolutely LOVING this thread. We can talk openly about the stuff nobody else really understands!

But u are all so right about one thing- the way your baby lights up when u get home from work, gives you a big smile, kisses u/(slobbers all over your face if younger-& I choose to believe this her way of kissing  ), even when she cries for you when you leave a room (even tho sometimes annoying cos at that moment u need some peace/a break) it's also very heartwarming.

Funny story: My daughter LOVES chatting to herself making the cutest and funniest little sounds. Last night she did this at some ungodly hour while sleeping in her cot next to our bed. DH & I both kept very still (without even realising the other was awake) trying to ignore her & hoping/PRAYING that she'd just fall back to sleep if we ignored her. The chatting continued and kept getting more& more animated (my child's a real character by the way even at 9 month!). Eventually we both broke out into giggles cos it was just getting too funny listening to her

It's really all worth it in the end to have this new little addition to your life that turns everything upside down & that we all can't remember or imagine now being without.

This thread has really put a smile on my face :)

So here is my story, I am 28 years old and have had my fisrt baby, she is now 3 months old and I was one of those moms who thought it would be hard but I would cope just fine.

to be honest I already sometimes feel I am too old for this

well lets see the many joys of motherhood thus far ....

Morning, afternoon, evening sever morning sickenss until 17 weeks (all I could eat was strawberry pops) .Getting so fat , once I got my Appetite back the nurse ask me if I was having one or two babies and now I have 15Kg's pregancy fat to lose

Losing all dignity as you are giving birth, I had a natural birth with no pain relief, boy I would do it over again 10 times, it was easier than the first few weeks home with a new born

We had such rigid ideas about raising our little girl, little did we know that she would have her own plans and preferences. we decided no formula, no dummies, but that fell away in week one when she had jaundice and had to be on blue lights all day, all we could do to soothe her was give her a dummy, I had endless problems with milk supply so formula top ups were in order until the Breastfeeding got better.

When my milk came in I felt ubber sexy, with my feeding bra( which my huisband says looks like some dominatrix bra with fold down flaps) stuffed with cabbage leaves :)

Once the feeding got better, she got colic and faught the boob, so I expressed and gave her milk in a bottle, which she loved, three weeks later she decided she rather liked the boob and refuses the bottle, so no rest for me as hubby cant breast feed ... unfortunately.

You ask where are the Husbands, mine is very supportive and does alot, but he doesnt do it the way I like it and I get annoyed and do it myself... You will learn that you feel that no one can do it as well as you...

So here I sit a very worn out Mom... I have not had more than 5 hours of consecutive sleep in 3 months, I cant remember the last time I put make up on or blow dried my hair. but at least I manage to shower adn brish my teeth every day :)

Everyone told me it was Hard, but I never thought it would be this hard, I feel if I can do anything now after giving birth and surviving my first 3 months

and Sex ... whats that ? I am too fat, tired, smelling of vomit to really get into the mood. My Dr asked me about birth control, I said I have very strict birth control method... A little baby named Paige

everyone says it gets easier at 6 weeks... what a lie, it gets worse and they say it gets even better at 3 months... I am waiting.

BUT for all the horrors of motherhood, nothing beats the first time your baby looks at you and smiles. Paige will keep me up all night and then in the morning give me a big grin and giggles and I feel like there was never a time before her arrival.

I cant wait to experience all those firsts... so for now I live one smile to the next and try remember that the crying, vomiting, lack of sleep will all pass one day

Good luck, it aint all bad :)

Two weekends ago I could have done with a smoke. I gave up 3 years before I had Dylan and I still miss it at times.

Mom of Dylan and Partner to Joerg. We live in the Beautiful Pringle Bay which is along the Whale coast, Cape.
