Morning ladies,
Simone a C-sec baby will quite often be put into an incubator for oxygen for 2 hours. Not all do, if the pead and hospital have a relaxed policy and baby is really doing well they may allow you to hold and feed baby but the problem with an operating theatre is it is very cold. I had C at 8pm, they flashed him rto me then with DH took him off to be in an incubator for 2hrs. Because it was late at night they never bought C to me until the next morning. Besides that glimpse in theatre I didn't see my baby for 12hrs. Next time I will know my rights better and will insist they bring my baby ecven if it's 2am but I also think because My body went into shock they wanted me to recover properly. My heart rate was 70/40 most of the night. They had me monitored every hour, not sure if that's normal procedure after a C-sec? Anyways, from your question I'm presuming it's more about the BF? C took like a dream to BF even though he was given a bottle for the 1st 12hrs of life. I do believe it has nothing to do with how soon you BF or if baby is given t up feeds, it's the baby's choice, some just don't find it comfortable. If there is no alternative offered then yes eventually out of starvation the baby will latch but sometimes that's just too traumatic for the mother and baby. I don't see why mums should be forced to BF in an age where we have adequate alternatives.
I BF wonderfully for 9w but out of desperation to get sleep changed to Formula (which didn't help) next time I am determind to BF exclusively until 6m but I don't believe it's the only way it should be. I get so angry when I watch Pro BF programmes because they make a struggling mother feel inadequate. When I was at my wits end with C and feeding every hour day and night I phoned a recommended BF advisor (just a pro BF mommy) from the sister lilian book. I was desperately looking for someone to tell me it's o.k if I don't feed him everytime he cries but her exact words were "so feed him, if he's asking for it he obviously needs it, you'll produce enough milk so don't worry, what's the problem?" Wow I felt like there was just no way to go on, this so called epert advisor had told me to basically put up and shut up. There was no way I could feed him every hour so I turned to formula. I hate the way they tell you to feed on demand, I will feed my baby every few hours and put it down in between. Next time I will not make the same mistakes again. After that I never ever picked up a baby book again and did everything from instinct. O.k another long post Vix LOL
I am being hit by a wave of nausea again, well at least it shows my hormone levels are still up. Blurgggg!
I need to quickly get C to make DH's card, he never let us out of his sight yesterday and friday we were in PTA all day. DH is sleeping in so we've got an oportunity now.
