Hi ladies,

I need some advice please!

Alex used to be so easy to put to nap in the daytime. I used to put him in his cot, turn on his cot mobile (about 3x) and he'd be gone. Nap times are now evil...he does not go down without a fight! Like I literally have to hold him down (not with force obviously) to keep him to lay still and fall asleep. Otherwise he tossed and turns and pulls down his cot bumpers and turns horizontal etc. And he screams.

I tried sleep training last Monday and oh my, he was crying for 1 hour! I went in every 5 minutes to calm him, eventually I caved and rocked him to sleep - this was after 1 hour of crying which meant he had been awake for 3.5hours!

What's the trick What am I missing?

I've actually ordered Gina Ford's sleep book - she's the hectic routine lady from the UK, but apparently her methods are like super strict, but if you can manage it, it works like a bomb. Very controversial though - apparently either you love her ways or you hate it.

I dread every time I have to put him to sleep. I know they are old enough for sleep training, but feck man, I HATE doing it. If that's the only way, I'm going to have to call in some moral support whilst it's going on. How long does it take for sleep training to work - like how many naps/days before he realises that crying isn't working?

Argh...please give me advice!

On the flip side, it's not all bad. He slept through for the last couple of nights, so I really can't complain.

Oh and he is practically crawling. Or perhaps still a few days off. He was rocking on all fours today. So cute man.

sal- lol! u crack me up! Mateo does the same thing as Shane! When i say mama, he laughs at me, lil monkey!

Eve- oh my word! Is that what it is!! I thought night terrors only happen to toddlers, but Mateo does a fair bit of crying in his sleep tho nothing as bad as what Connor went thru. Shame, u must have gotten a huge fright. Hopefully it will be less hectic next time. Only mom's group i know about in s suburbs is at kingsbury hospital on thursday mornings.

Lucy- thanx for info re biscuits, looking forward to giving it to mister 2moro. Shame man! Poor London! Really hope he feels better quickly. He is such a bright boy! Mateo says nun nun and quite a bit of dada but its just sounds he makes, so no association with either me or his daddy. Hopefully soon *holding thumbs*

missy- hopefully it the water does the trick with ur little girl, my boy doesnt drink water so i cant try that. Awesome that she put herself to sleep again. Its really a pain rocking them to sleep, I have to do it every night but at least nap times my sausage can sort himself out. How often does ur girl wake?

I'm green with envy. All I get is a whole lot of whoo whoo whooo, like a freaking owl!

Sal it happens overnight where they start to associate sounds with people etc...

Missy he also started first with Mamamamama, Dadadada, Babababa, then Agoo Agoo for everything... then finally MummMumm which became Mama, but he still says Mum when he comes to me most times... So the MuumMuum is very good! Trust me he still struggles, cant always say it!

That is soo cute. I only hear mumm mumm from my daughter when shes crying. Hubby loves that coz then he says see she is crying for you take her. LOL

When she was 4 and 5 months old i could just lay her in her cot and put the musical thingy on and she would fall asleep but since 5.5 months she wanted to be rocked asleep in my arms.

so last night i tried sleep training her again - i kept her in my arms till she was drowsy and still making sounds (she usually does before she sleeps) and so i layed her down and guess wot she slept on her on. Whoop Whoop

She has also been waking up at nite so i read that you should give them water when they wake up coz its not filling and soon they'll realise that its not worth it to wake up for water. So i started that last night as well. Im sure that its going to take a couple of nites to get that rite.

ahhhh Lucy you are so lucky. I've been trying to teach Shane to say mama since he was 2 months old. Now when I look at him and say it slowly he cracks up laughing, makes me wonder if he's holding back just to tease me.

Oh and I was completely bowled over (dont know if I said this on the forum earlier this week... mommy brain)... But London now says Mama when he looks at me and Dada when he looks at his Dad and Agoo for everything else! Lol! It's said very slowly and takes a bit of coaxing, cause he looks like the words can't come out his mouth, but they are there... Sounds like Muuum Muuum. Love it!!!
