Alex - THINGS WILL GET BETER!!!!!!!!!!!! :) - I am almost ready for nr 3 LMAO (just kidding) but girl u get your groove very quickly

1st - stop feeding from only one boob - u will get him to want a favourite and u will have lopsided boobs one go much bigger seriously

ok so run hot shower stand under hot water and massage full boobs under shower feel for lumps and work them out OUCH yes but blocked ducts will make u sick

before a feed place hot facecloth on boob to get milk flowing after put cold one on to stop the production

once engorged put cabbage leaves on this takes heat and pain out

leave boobs open during and after feed - place towel on lap to catch leakage - fresh air vital for healing

lansinoh - works very well to heal nipples

babies are clever so if he gets away with using u as dummy he will - feeds should be no closer than 2hrs ideally 3hrs maby mateo falls asleep so he just snacks tickle his face, pull his ear or in all cruel to be kind keep moist cotton ball handy and wipe his face to wake him so he has full feed and stretches his time :)

mmmmmmmmm girl hang in there u will soon look back and start advicing others and laughing at the early days - man if i knew with lea what i know now with xen geez i would have missed alot of grey hairs and tears and near divorces :)

oh what a long night! All he wanted to do was feed! Surely there's a limit to how much their tummies can hold? So much for newborns sleeping 18 hours a day- Mateo clearly never got that memo. The right is still engorged so i'm feeding only from the left and its hurting like hell! We tried giving the bottle but he doesnt like it. Now he's sleeping and we on our way to the clinic. Sneaky!

Please tell me things will get better!!

its just amazing how many things a person has to deal with at the same time- recovering from birth, bleeding, sore nipples, engorged breasts, adapting to a newborn- yet one look at that little face and its all worth it :)
thanx Skyler and Mrs sh for the tips on dealing with this engorgment! I was actually given that pigeon bottle as a babyshower gift so i think i'll let Mark give him a feed in there every now and then to give my breasts a chance to recover. I wanted to wait and see if i would need a breast pump but i think its definitely gonna be a necessity so i'm looking for one that not too pricey.

hi all
i give the milk via bottle he has taken to bottle and nipple well and doesnt confuse but i dont always feed from a bottle only every now and again when i want a break. I use the pigeon one that is for 0-3 months as it has a slower teat flow (as he choked on the nuk one), also it mimics the boob ... cos tme R60 for one but i only need the one at the moment.

Engorgement before you feed massage out those lumps in your boob as well it really does help also after the feed put cabbage leaves on i did that and it really helps luckily the engorgement doesnt last long.... if you have a pump, pump some out a bit to make the boob a little softer for him, i see you are hand expressing i would rather opt for a machine one if you can afford it.

I also got the medela mini electric pump!!!

ladies i found a fluidish lump by breyton's groin going to doc tomorrow was at the clinic today and they said it could go away on its own or it could be a hernia!!! shamepies my little boy i will keep you updated :)

Gotta dash time for a feed!!!

Hi mommies!!

Alex - stick out breastfeeding for a while longer. Try going for lazer - mine was only R95 a session and my medical aid covered it (from savings, but at least covered it). It makes the world of difference. Try showering in a HOT shower and hand expressing those engorged boobs before you have to feed. They go a little less engorged and Mateo will be able to latch then. It worked for me in the beginning.

As for breastpumps - I've got a Medela Mini Electric and love it. In the beginning it took like 40 minutes to express 40mls, now it takes like 15 minutes to express 150mls! I've got a slight cold and am expressing for every other meal and I don't give the bottle to Alex, I get DH or mom or my sister to do it. That way he'll know that he gets the good stuff from me still...My pump is from the UK and I got a teat with the bottle and it works perfectly. Not sure which bottle to recommend otherwise.

Anyway, Alex is waking up, still wanted to say hi to everyone else!

Good luck!

I'm loving my boy today...wanted to give him away to anyone yesterday!!! Hahahahaha! Have a nice day ladies.

nelria-projectile vomit sounds gross! Foeitog! Come on xen, get better!
Skyler-how do u give the expressed milk? In a bottle? I'm gonna have to do the bottle at least for a few days and i'm worried about nipple confusion.
tried airing nipples but then one starts leaking and i need to dash for a towel or something, i feel like such a cow!
Mateo is real lethargic today and sweating alot, we took temp and its normal. We have another checkup 2moro so i'll watch to see if he improves.
