Thanks for the input ladies. It seems that we're doing ok then. I'm happy with the way things are going (apart from when I have to wake up twice at night in this cold cold cold winter) - wasn't sure when we have to implement a 'stricter' routine. Everything is flexible.

My Alex is 1 month old today! I brought him in bed this morning and lay there staring at him for a hour after DH left for work. Our cleaner is here today, I felt so guilty still laying in bed when she showed up. She understands though, she has 2 kids of her own.

Sounds like everyone is doing great.

Nelria- you're super-mommy. Oxtail, 2 kids, no DH, flippen hell, I'm just barely coping with the one! Well done. YOu really deserve a prize!

Lucy - thanks for the info on the injections. I recall something being said at our antenatal classes about giving or not giving pain meds before they get the vacs, but silly me didn't take notes. I'll go get that cream, sounds like a plan.

Ronel - stoked that the stuff worked. It does make babies sleep for up to 6 hours, there is a tiny bit of alcohol in there, but it's not harmful to babies whatsoever. I know of at least 4 mommies who are using it for their little ones. Lizbe is so sweet. She'll be so gentle.

I took Alex in on Monday. He weighed 4.845kg at 4 weeks. They didn't measure him. She said he was a big baby. He is gaining an average of 375g per week - a bit above the line, but because it's constant and because he is big, she reckons it's absolutely fine.

Newborn clothes fits him perfectly now and 0 - 3 months things are starting to fit too. We got SO MUCH 3 - 6 month things, I'm going to have 1 outfit per day and then he'll have outgrown that too. The scary part is that I haven't really bought any of it myself. And stupidly removed all the tags...idiot. Oh well, the next person having a boy will get spoilt!

I agree with Nelria - get chatting ladies!

Hi girls, sorry to butt in, just wanted to give you gals a tip for the injections.

I used to buy Emla Patches (at the pharmacy, R50 for box of 2 patches) you stick one on a leg where they usually inject lo, atleast 2 hours before going for injections. It totally numbs the skin and the muscle. My lg never once cried, especially the Previnar which is very painfull for them. I felt that R50 for each time was really worth it for me! When i had her ears pierced i put a little Emla cream on her lobes and she didnt even flinch!! Works like a bomb!!!

Use it, dont use it. Enjoy your angels :)

Hey guys

Gave London the Panado Drops beforehand, but Sister at Clinic said it was not going to stop the pain and he wouldn't necessarily get a fever. She said next time only to give him after and only if he has a fever and it reaches 38! It was quick, yes sore... but he cried for a short while and it was all over!

Then went to Paed who weighed him etc... He is very healthy and doing well. Only need to see Paed again at 4.5 months.

London is 4.9kg and 58cm tall (very tall). So all is good. I missed the boat on some of his 0-3 clothes which don't fit him - so very upset. Only like 2 outfits but still! He is too tall for one and his head is to big to get in another... can you believe it!

Anyway Dr is very happy he is on Nan HA and said I can stay on that till 12 weeks and then move him to regular Nan as it's 1/2 the price! Says Nan is the best cause closest to breast milk!

We must continue the Bennett's Colic Mix (twice a night) and the Losec till his 12 weeks. The Paed is convinced that he will be completely all good after 12 weeks... as in no more digestive problems! i hope so! He says this is pretty normal and all babies learn to pass gas without pain after 3 months! They also get rid of reflux around then. So only 6 weeks to go....

Amazingly last night he slept sooo long! After he ate at 7pm. Fell asleep around 8pm and only woke at 2am (6 hrs)! Then back down from 3am till 6am (3hrs)! But think that might be related to the vaccines... not holding my breath that he is starting to sleep through yet!

Haha

Mrs SH your feeding pattern with Alex is exactly the same as mine was with Caitlin. She is 7 weeks old on Thursday and since last week her feeds have shortened from 20 minutes to 10 minutes (1 boob only now) at a time. Haven't had to use a breast pump yet, but do have to hand express sometimes. Her day feeds seem to be a bit more frequent now...but it could just be a little growth spurt?!?

Lucy: What did you give London before the injections? Witbank has a sister that used to work at Clicks pharmacy and she is now private, so comes to your house (R130) or you can go to her (R100). You just have to buy the injection from the pharmacy which is luckily close to me - it is called INFRANRIX-HEXA and costs R378. I have booked Caitlin for next week Friday - she will be 8 weeks then.

Alex - so glad Mateo has put on weight nicely. Can't wait to see how much Caitlin has put on, she hasn't been to the Dr since she was 10 days old. Caitlin also spits up a bit now, but my boobs literally spray milk at her sometimes...if I see it then I go express a bit first, otherwise she chokes a bit.

Eve - how are you managing with cloth nappies? I have only washed mine today, will start using from tomorrow during day only. Caitlin pee'ed right through her clothes 4 times since last night and I am using the disposables I have been using for the last month so I have no idea why it's happening.

We are booked to fly down to Cape Town at the beginning of August. DH and I are flying down together with Caitlin and then he is coming back earlier and I will fly back oON MY OWN <eek> with Caitlin so hope it goes well on the way down! :)

Hi everyone

Mrs SH - Things are a bit better. A friend of mine gave me a mixture that a pharmacy made up for her LO for cramps and so far it is working. Zarika slept the whole day yesterday. She would wake up for a feed and fall asleep on the boob but today we are struggling to sleep! Zarika feeds roughly every 4 hours and drinks on average 20 mins, 10 min on each boob. We also don't have a fixed routing yet, we bath her when she is awake, antyhing from 6 in the evening. Last night she slept from 9 until 3 and then woke up again at 7. I am taking her again to Lizbe on friday to be weighed and then she will probably tell me about the injection that is out of stock. Zarika weighed 3.4 kg when I took her to be weighed last friday, she is still so small. Her newborn clothes bearly fits!

Lucy - I need to take Zarika for her injections next week and would also like to know if the panado worked.

Have a great day everyone!
