Newborn and baby advice

Hello Ladies... been a while...

See we've got a few moomies with chubby chinned baba's.. we too have this issue with Tayla... and its a team effort to clean in there... i usually distract her with a squeaky toy at the back of her head so she turns to look at me while hubby quickly gets the cotton wool or sponge and cleans the gunk out... i can't believe how much collects in there in 1 day!!! By the looks of the muck in there some days you'd swear we bath her once a month lol!!!

So - we started porridge last week! Paed told us to look out for when Tayla watches us eat... she practically wishes the food out of our mouths! , double birth weight - she is now 6.8kg and was 3.08kg at birth, can sit assisted by 2 pillows - which she does perfectly and has reached at least 4 months... It wasn't as messy as i thought it would be... the first few tastes she pulled such a face... then eventually got the hang of it and was bouncing with excitement as the next aeroplane approached with porridge on board....

We took her on her first family holiday last week... drove from CT to Plett... and she was an absolute pleasure... i was expecting the worst but we were pleasantly surprised.

Daddy was on leave for a month and went back to work today - so we are having a little niggles because she is missing him... So will make sure Daddy gets some extra time in with her later!

Also on the hunt for a nanny... and one that can start asap!!!

Bronz - you must get this thing called a Nose Frieda = it works like a bomb in getting out all the "snot" - sorry for lack of a better word! its an aspirator that actually works, not like those fiddly bulbs, they do not work at all! I bought it at Dischem, for like R80 - its one of my best buys.

I started using the humidifier last night, will see how it goes. Connor also felt hot to the touch, but didnt have a fever - so Im just keeping an eye on him....Im trying to avoid the R550 Paed bill if I can...but if he doesnt seem any better over the weekend I will take him in.

I have not given anything, it seems to be clearing up on its own luckily. Was going to use a nose bulb ( cant remember the other name) but it did not suck anything out. DH and I had turns at trying the thing G just looked at us like we were crazy.

The humidifier not helping?

G has been asleep since 10 this morn waking only for feeds. He feels hot to the touch but has a normal temp. Should I take him to the doc?

aaah, Bronz, sounds like our babas have the same "sicky". What have you been using for Graemes nose?

Hey Ladies

Back home now. Lets just hope that means things return to normal. Since the first night I arrived in Joeys Graeme started waking at 10 and then any where between 12 and 2 and possibly for another feed before 5. I think the 10 pm feed was my fault as I was expressing for the wedding at 10 and I think he woke from the smell.

The wedding went very well,apart from being away from my baby. He took the first bottle no problems but the second one Bearn had to trick him into taking. I took the breast pump with me to the wedding, but I was hoping I would not have to use it. No such luck, I have the medula electric so I can only guess what people thought I was doing on the toilet. Hehe.

While in Joeys Graeme got his first experience of sick. He ended up with a runny and blocked nose. On Tuesday night it was so bad that he woke up not being able to breathe and a nose that was fully blocked. This of course happened at 2 am and all our stuff is in CT. He did not "want" to feed because he could not taste / smell that the nipple was in his mouth. I did not know what to do for him. He is still a bit down but getting better. When does a blocked nose and a bit of a cough get bad enough to go to the doc?

It was so busy while up in Joeys. Very happy to be back home and too be back into routine, lets hope it helps.

Time to unpack the bag....

@ScribblinGal - lol, Im giggling at your description of Emilys rolls - and let me tell you that even though Connor might not have neck rolls, he has them on his legs, lol - his little legs at the top have quite a few little fat folds, but I adore them!! Last night Connor had both his feet in his hands...and was trying to put his foot in his mouth, ha ha it was too cute!!

Ladies - Connor has a blocked nose, AGAIN...oh my word - when will it let up? I've been using tissue salts and Sterimar salilne spray to clean out his nose, but he was so congested yesterday that I had no choice but to resort to using some "Otrivin" drops...which at least opened his nose so he was able to get some sleep & drink nicely... and now that his nose is so congested and runny, I think he has some loose phlegm/slime in his throat, and he makes a bit of a throaty cough every now & then, I'm keeping an eye on his temp and its been totally normal for now & apart fromt he nose he doesn't appear to be sick, but still, it makes me feel so helpless - I just want the little guy to be comfortable! do any of you have any secret remedies/tips I can try?

Wow Desiree - almost rolls are better than no rolls, sigh, come on Emily... The only rolls from her are on her legs. I'm sure it will only be a matter of time now and your little guy will be rolling over and touching his toes. Keep me posted!

Got home from the meeting and everyone looks like they're ok. Jeez it's hectic leaving them for the first time.

Bundle, Luke sounds like he's leading the way for the April 2010 babies. I like hearing what other babies are doing so I know what milestones to look out for. I'm afraid bibs don't always help Miss Madam's vomits. It seems to just get under the bib. Maybe I should tie them tighter. Let us know what the paed says about the porridge.
