@Adri: Pity that your holiday is over, that must be the worst part of a holiday. How was the first day back?

@ScribblingAl: Is the book you are talking about talks about the order food must be given in? I am borrowing a book from a friend tomorrow, think it may be the same one. I know I am not so keen on doing rice cereal, I have heard that a baby's body is not ready to handle that until about 10/11 months. The pead told us the other day that we must start solids at about 4 months.

What will/ have you started solid wise? what foods first?

This morning we had our first real puke. I think he is teething. I nursed him then he still wanted more. So we gave him a bottle (he doesnt normally want more). He finished 120mls and it all came up. DO you think he is teething? He has been chewing on our knuckles and his hands. And he has had a snotty nose - almost cleared up now.

Adri, I'm due to go back to the office in november. Holding thumbs that they'll let me stay on a little longer. How did your first day back go??

I guess Meg Faure's reply puts the debate about when to introduce solids to rest. I'm glad things have been cleared up.

@Adri it does get better even though the 1st week is not easy, u'll keep looking @ the tym and asking ureself when is knock off tym. Cum knock off tym u'll rash home to see ure bandle of joy, is ure baba @ creche or with nanny?
@Meags tym goes by so quick the next tym u check u'll be 5mnths, i used to luv the scans if it were according to me i would scan every week
@Zulu they once mentioned on great expectation that its not good for babies that small to be watching tv, 5-10min is ok whilst u make ureself a snack. I stand to be corrected

Hope u all doing well on this lovely Spring day.

My LO is also doing well, eating,eating,eating.

Since she started purity she does not like the cereal anymore, she's bn having hard, yellow stools not sure if it's the purity.

she's making the screaming noise, my nanny told me she loves watching the teletubbies, is it good for babas to watch tv at 5 months?

She's now on 6-12 clothes, 3-6 is tight on the arms, and on the hips .

You are quite correct that the UK recently changed their policy to say that babies must be fed an exclusive milk diet until 6 months of age. The UK policy was based on old research. The latest Esphagan papers on solid feeding and all reasearch show that the introduction of solids prior to 4 months may increase the risk of alergies in 'allergy prone' babies. Waiting to introduce solids after 6 months of age is also not wise. The introduction of solids between 4 and 6 months of age, depending on the baby's signals is in fact the correct time. All the guidleines worldwide will chaged to be in line with this in time (it takes government departments time to catch upwith the lastest info). Kath Megaw and Dr Simon Strachan who wrote Feeding Sense with me are absolute experts on allergies and infant feeding. The idea in Feeding Sense is to take the anxiety out of feeding and just be senseable about introducing solids (which may mean 6 months for some babies and 4 months for others). I know how confusing this can be for us moms, but it is important that we are up to date with the lastest research, not old trends.
