Ok no birth story yet.
Just after midnight here and he has been really difficult for the last few hours. He just does not want to feed and becomes so hysterical.

He is also distressed still...no one checked him all day and now the night nurse said he's breathing is fast so she took him to nursery for observation. They say his oxygen levels are 100% but his rib muscles are retracting inwards which shows he is working harder than normal to breathe. Ok that was written almost 2 hours ago.

He is now in NICU he is not to be fed by mouth so he will get IV feeds for now. They are doing X-rays and blood tests to see what is wrong. I had a good cry and should be using this time to sleep but I just can't. My breasts are so sore from trying to get him to feed. The nurse has advised I start pumping in about 2 hours to keep up colostrum production and anything that does come out they can keep in the freezer (although I doubt at this stage there'll be much). So I am not sure we'll be discharged tomorrow. I think after I pump in 2 hours I will go to NICU as they are busy with all the tests at the moment. I feel like world's worst mother for not picking up the distress. That is part of my job yet I completely missed it with my own baby

I am going to write my birth story this evening so you can look out for it under the birth story thread

WHAT AN EXPERIENCE! Oh my God natural birth is hard and sore!!!!
So basically my BH had been so regular for so long that I didn't think anything of them at first. Then DH and I had a "fight" (not really a fight but he was all depressed and it made me depressed) so I was sure it was just emotions bringing on the BH. So began timing them and they were every 3-4 minutes. Anyway I would say it started to feel more than BH (as in it started to hurt) from about 1:30am. So that means only 6 hours of labour pain. And it was tolerable up to 6am. After that I became a lunatic (literally moaning and screaming so loud I am sure I scared the hell out of other labouring moms!!!) I went from 7-10cm in 1 hour and pushed Matt out in 30 minutes. (that's quick for a 1st timer!!) But I didnt have a choice. Matt was severely distressed (we saw grade 2 meconium in the water at 6am - there are only 3 grades so its reasonably bad...) his heart rate was so low and not recovering between contractions. The midwife was telling me we HAVE to get baby out - it's serious now and I could hear the SLOW "doff doff" of his heart struggling to beat I wish I didnt have the knowledge as just knowing exactly what was going on made me so worried. But anyway. my pushing was more effective since I knew the danger. But full birth story to come

So I told you he wouldnt be a big baba! 3.28kg is little!!!! I was quite surprised really! Thought he'd be at least 3.4kg. Anyway he's so cute And doesnt have short legs (yippee Rakker!!) In fact he looks tall and skinny to me.

I am totally exhausted since I didnt sleep last night and havent slept today so I think I will sleep well tonight (provided Matt allows me!) He has already had a bit of a crying spell this afternoon where he just would not settle. He does not want to latch to my left boob! And I dont have enough colostrum coming out to express onto a teaspoon to give him so I gave him formula in a syringe (they have never heard of cup feeding here )

Congrats Mommy Meags! Looking forward to your birth story. Can you believe it's all over? Now the fun really starts . Little Matt is gorgeous!

Meags I'm so so happy for you. Oh man it is exciting. I can't believe I guessed right when I said M would be here on Thursday. I'm so so happy for you. Can't wait to hear everything. Yay man.
