WHAT TO PACK FOR THE HOSPITAL FOR A C-SECTION

I took and used the following:

clothes to go home in (I used what I arrived in)
toiletries
dark colour and white face cloth
2 pack maternity pads
2 carriwell disposable undies
maternity bra
breast pads
bepanthan/lansinoh
a nipple puller (great to have an difficult to find at the last minute. Not expensive)
pjays with button down or easy access front (I used shoestring strap tops)
fluffy socks
my feeding pillow (awesome for a Caesar)
2 six packs of juice and some cereal bars etc (mainly for dh)
change for the vending machine
a cd of music for the delivery (check with gynae)
a camera and a video camera
a notebook and pen
your medical aid cards
you watch or an itzbeen (I LOVED my itzbeen. Awesome if you're a bit drugged up)
a box of tissues
baby outfit go home in.
Earbuds
1 pack newborn nappies
Vaseline (best for early days)
baby bath shampoo/soap (don't bother with the cream)
wetwipes
car seat

As for feeding bra's please make sure they fit well now already. Studies show that the damage to your breast occurs during the pregnancy due to the lack of support rather than breastfeeding.

I'm with Lizzy on the catheter! With my eldest I had the catheter put in after the Epidural was adminstered, but with my youngest it was done before the Epidural...I ALMOST DIED!!!!

Please, if nothing else, ask to have the catheter inserted after the Epidural!

I'm definately demanding it this time!

I also took a little stuffed teddy with, to put in my babies çrib'. Might be stupid, but I did it with both my girls, and is surely doing it with this one.

tivania - I know it all seems like so much to do and take in, but also remember that the sisters and doctors at your hospital do this all day, everyday - so if you forget anything or overlook something, they will be able to help you out. At the end of the day, all it will cost you is maybe a few hundred bucks extra for the disposable underwear/ linen savers/ whatever - a small price to pay for a little peace of mind.

Lizzy thanks so much for the list! Its better to have something written in that form for a stupid brain like me considering how much I have to absorb

Don't be overwhelmed...I went in and thought it was the end of the world, I almost got up and left the hospital if it wasn't for the catheter. A few things...Ask then to put the catheter in just before you go in...They put in mine an hour before my c section - I NEARLY DIED! It's not sore just UNCOMFORTABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!

To pack for you:

Disposable panties
Linen savers
Toiletries
2 sets op PJ’s (Buttons in front if you wanna breast feed)
Breast feeding bra
Super C’s (Glucose sweeties) THEY HELP!!!!!!
Slippers
Panties (You know those big ouma panties, you can buy them at ackermans for R20. They are cotton) I found that the disp. Panties bugged me, so I wore ouma panties over them. It didn’t feel so bad.
Socks ( The lady next to me wore hers all the time, she said her feet are cold)
Ice pack ( to put on the cut – it helped with the pain a lot)

For Baby:

3 x receiving blankets
3 x vests
3 x babygrows
One thick blanket
Towel
Sirgucal spirits
Colic Drops
Sjampoo
Wash
Cotton Buds
Ear buds
Feeding Pillow (Those half moon ones) I’m taking mine this time around
