Afternoon ladies

Miks i also wonder where everyone is? Tanya, fancyface, maryke, mutha2b, barbs?

I'm so using this weekend to start shopping. 1st we're off to baby city then the baba indaba. We have to start buying at some point right?

Re Maternity leave: They sent an email saying the version of the labour law they had is outdated.

Like I believe that! they just wanted to force me to take 3months and were conspiring after I sent the email with the link. lol. they immediately went into a meeting once the meeting was over they sent this email. No apology or anything.

Champers- I hope you feel better soon.

Has anyone woken up and immediately felt like they had grown over night? I woke up feeling bigger and hubby commented on how big my tummy was this morning. Very weird.

I also noticed that my tummy is not as soft as it was. It is harder. And people keep commenting that the baby is due soon. They get shocked when I tell them I have 3more months to go :woohoo:

Stick it to the man GML!

We bought a little nightlight that straps to the cot that plays songs from Mozart and Bach so I've been sitting with it on my tummy playing it to the little guy so the music becomes familiar. Apparently research has shown that it works. He keeps prodding where the toy is lying so either he's liking it or trying to get rid of it! LOL

Think I've picked up a cold from somewhere. Blocked up shnoz, sneezing and coughing. Weather is miz too so I think its a duvet day.

Morning Ladies

I just responded to the email about maternity leave. And yes, I have included the link and have also made her aware that I will be taking full 4months maternity leave from the 22 Nov 2010 to 22 March 2011. That is 4months. I have not counted holidays. It will cause more complications considering that there is 1 or 2 holidays I think.

I'm feeling ok. I sort some legal advise and I have been told that they cannot even touch me. If they do they may end up paying 24months worth of my salary. I am waiting for them to make a mistake

Baby will sleep in our room too. It will make our lives much easier. We are going to the baba indaba this weekend. They are hubby's clients so we're getting free tickets. :woohoo:

I know that we will go there and we will buy stuff. Cannot wait...

Good morning

GML @ damn I hate it when people think you are stupid just cause you are pregnant. Did you send your boss an email with the link that Champers gave you? grrrrr idiots!

Baby will sleep with us in our room too... just because its easier when feeding baby at night.

I wonder where Tanya & Mutha2b is? Hope they are well.....

AFM :woohoo: Baby is doing well and is super busy at night! hubby finds this very funny, he says baby is going to keep us up at night!

Blessed with a beautiful daughter and an awesome baby boy!

Baby will sleep in our room for 6 months too but we are going to use a moses basket probably. If baby doesn't fit into that anymore, then I guess he must go into his own room. Its only a few steps from our room anyway and we will have the baby monitor with breathing pad.

GML, your work really sounds like a pain. Shame honey, doesn't seem you are being given an easy time with anything.

I still have this unbelievable pain under my right boob. It moves to the apex of my ribs. Hot, burning pain which worsens if you touch it.

Hello everyone

We also bought a camp cot because of space constraints (we want the baby in our bedroom for at least the first month or two and a full sized cot would just be too cramped).

Champers, you made me feel for Thai green curry.Mine comes out quite nice but I never make it since hubby doesn't like it and its too much effort to make just for myself.

Champers, I hate when they try to get around their legal obligations. They tried to convince my SIL that she was only allowed 2 months maternity leave. Please point them to section 25 of the Basic Conditions of Employment Act which says:

25. Maternity leave
[In terms of section 187(1)(e) of the Labour Relations Act, 1995, the dismissal of an employee on account of her pregnancy, intended pregnancy, or any reason related to her pregnancy, is automatically unfair. The definition of dismissal in section 186 of the Labour Relations Act, 1995, includes the refusal to allow an employee to resume work after she has taken maternity leave in terms of any law, collective agreement or her contract.]

(1) An employee is entitled to at least four consecutive months’ maternity leave.(2) An employee may commence maternity leave—

(a) at any time from four weeks before the expected date of birth, unless otherwise agreed; or

(b) on a date from which a medical practitioner or a midwife certifies that it is necessary for the employee’s health or that of her unborn child.

(3) No employee may work for six weeks after the birth of her child, unless a medical practitioner or midwife certifies that she is fit to do so.

(4) An employee who has a miscarriage during the third trimester of pregnancy or bears a stillborn child is entitled to maternity leave for six weeks after the miscarriage or stillbirth, whether or not the employee had commenced maternity leave at the time of the miscarriage or stillbirth.

(5) An employee must notify an employer in writing, unless the employee is unable to do so, of the date on which the employee intends to—

(a) commence maternity leave; and

(b) return to work after maternity leave.

(6) Notification in terms of subsection (5) must be given—

(a) at least four weeks before the employee intends to commence maternity leave; or

(b) if it is not reasonably practicable to do so, as soon as is reasonably practicable.

(7) The payment of maternity benefits will be determined by the Minister subject to the provisions of the Unemployment Insurance Act, 1966 (Act No. 30 of 1966). [Sections 34 and 37 of the Unemployment Insurance Act, 1966 (Act No. 30 of 1996) provide for the payment of maternity leave. Legislative amendments will be proposed to Cabinet to improve these benefits and to provide that the payment to an employee of maternity benefits does not adversely affect her right to unemployment benefits.]

:woohoo: Champers

I included that very link to my response. Funny because we have a labour lawyer working here. Why they don't ask him is beyond me.
