question-circle TTC journey, travelling...

Meags I personally would not do that at all. Firstly it is a rediculous responsibility to place on a nanny, a child that young shouldn't be left without both parents for that long at all.

I think you guys have alot to talk about.

Being parents is a 24/7 job. Obviously the odd weekend and even week is fine for lo to be taken care of by a family member, but when you decide to have a child much of your old life gets put on hold or I believe it should. Also consider the sad possibility of a special needs child or an ill child.

thanks! I am feeling totally overwhelmed :(

so DH brought up something that I'd like your opinion on (I already have mine and feel very strongly about it but would like yours first)

Dh thinks when we want to go travelling (local or overseas) we should leave the baby with a nanny. even for like 2 weeks.

would you feel comfortable if you had a nanny coming to care for baby for a few hours each day for a few months, then you decide to go on a 2 week holiday (say baby is now 6 months old) to just leave baby with this nanny??

wow you ladies have given me such great insight :) thanks so much for all your advice and personal experiences!!
I will have to re-read this a few times to grasp each and every thing you ladies have said and will also need to have a good think about things. If I can just make it to September, I think I can make it until December. And if I can just make it to December, maybe I can make it to March?

There is a lot we will need to speak about I think :) And as you ladies pointed out, don't want DH feeling sad this happened too soon

Again Vix is spot on. We spent 7 years together before having a child. I was sort of ready, but Neil wasn't and I knew that having a kid when he wanted to still travel and have freedom would cause issues if not end things.

We had issues when Dylan was born even with us both wanting it badly and being really stable.

I am older and prepared to give up certain things for my child and until you have one you can't begin to know how much you do give up. I know I sound like your mom here, but honestly the most stupid thing I ever said was how hard can it be. Well I had no idea. I must say it was worth it but only because we were both ready and just to add I still get a bit sad when I can't go to a huge concert etc.

If you have family support then it is easier, but we don't so have to accept full responsibility.

you and DH just need to be on the same page, whatever you do decide to do.

There's no use you guys having a baby and him deciding it has stopped all his plans and tied him down because that will cause resentment and that's no good.

My DH was working and living in SA and I was working overseas for 2 years of our relationship. He missed me terribly but he never pushed me to leaving my job until i was ready for fear of resentment.

O.k i wasn't ready to leave completely but i fell pregnant. I did resent my baby for a little while because the life I had was so much more fun but now I'm happily content to stay at home and raise my children.

A mothers resentment of a child can be easily overcome ehrn they give their first kiss, or hug etc.

A partners resentment is harder to get over.
