I'm really hope that something will be done to prevent this again in future. I had a glimpse of this story yesterday but quickly closed it since I was sooooo upset. :-( I lied awake last night thinking about that poor girl and wishing that I could do. This is so sad. There are so many horrible things that happen out there and if we make a difference in someone's life - its makes a big different to them.

Just a thought - why dont the Moomie mommies choose one 'case' / person / Institution to help or support a month? It could be something simple in the form of prayers or donations?

What you think?

Really sick story.... I guess they think that their job is just a job and not that they are responsible for someones well being in this case a baby who cannot even walk.

Good on you YAZ for doing all of those good things for them.

After years of negotiating our NGO actually managed to push through that the moms on 'our' ward can stay with their babies. We have some donated mattresses and provide the moms with food and toiletries whenever we can (they usually have absolutely nothing and the dads are gone). We also assist in educating them about their rights as patients, about ARV adherence and how to care for their sick children. In Germany the mum (or dad) MUST stay with her child in hospital, there's not even a question about it. Sad this is not worldwide standard. It makes all the difference in the world for the kids' healing processes when the parents are with them.

Did you guys see the Carte Blanche clip where the nursing staff in the old age home were hitting and abusing their patients? They caught it on camera and actually made it public.
Unfortunately not much came of it except that the staff were let go but sometimes you gotta make public aware of specific incidents.

And ofcourse no hospital wants these types of things made public as it jeapordises their reputations and grants etc.

@ Julz - with you re weekend staff. Kaylee was born on a Friday and we left the Monday. The one nurse tried to get me to take a voltaren surpository orally! I made her read the instructions and she seemed so surprised that that freakin huge tablet was not meant for oral intake!

I just feel for those poor babies not getting the care and attention they need. If it were me I'd do everything in my power to be there permanently. Hmmm maybe a good reason to breastfeed till they're out of diapers :D

Claudia, when my baby was in ICU we had to go home every day. It was just awful :( But she was sedated so there was nothing we could do.
But once she was awake and transferred to the general ward, we managed to get a private room and I roomed in cause I was breastfeeding, but other parents could sit next to the cots during the day but had to leave at night. Awful!

In Private the babies in ICU dont have their moms with them, although some hospitals do have facilities on site for parents with critical babies to stay.

Government hospitals just dont have the space, so they support the moms who need to be there to feed their babies first:(

In the UK parents dont get to stay with their kids in the general wards either..

Wow Claudia thats interresting. I would NEVER leave my baby behind at a hospital, no matter private or public and it's disturbing cos I dont have medical aid. WHY on earth are you not allowed to stay with your child (regardless of the ward) I cant believe it..
