@ Lennongirl

Depending on which folds you plan on using the extra middle absorbtion may or may not be necessary, I think stitching an extra layer of absorbant material in the middle section of the nappy might be a good thing but will also bulk up your nappy a little more. I think 3 layers of very good unbleached cotton surged in the sections and then folded over each other is more than enough. If you do a search on this thread or somewhere else on this forum I think you will find a topic about making your own prefold nappies. One of the Mums used to make her own and used super sippa material in the middle of the prefold which sounds like quite a good idea.

Too cute Amanda. @ Skai, congrats on your Baby boy. I am sure you will love the whole cloth nappy world. You are very lucky to be spoilt by your Mom like that. Glad you like the Econobum, let me know if you ever want any more?

Hi Guys,

Haven't been here in ages! Sorry...

2KM - A huge congrats to you! What wonderful news! May you have a fantastic pregnancy :)

Lennongirl - My mom has generously bought me loads of great nappies on EBay - all from China (with free shipping either to post office or even couriered to our door!). I have Alvababy and Babyland plus some other funny brand (not so great). At the moment my absolute favourites are the Babyland one's with velcro and poppers - they fit so well! I also have Totbots and Smart Nappy covers (for prefolds) that are from the UK (family over there)....also love them. PLUS I have 2 BM covers.....so I really do havequite a selection. I have discovered that using prefolds (which my mom made) instead of the microfibre in the pocket nappies actually works so much better! No leaks and don't have to worry about the smell of the microfibre inserts. I started using cloth nappies at about 2 weeks and my son will be 7 weeks on Monday - really loving all my cloth nappies :) Oh, and bought an Econobum at the baby expo yesterday - can't wait to try it out! Looks and feels great!

So this morning I find our son in his room with celery salt.... he opened his nappy bucket and sprinkled some there.... maybe he doesn't like the tea tree oil smell?

Thanks for your help 2kidmamma - I think I'll have to look into trying to make my own prefolds. Just a question - some of them look like there are extra layers in the middle - is this necessary in your opinion?

Sadly LennonGirl I will tell you that the Econobum even folded for a newborn will still be bulky but if you use different fold and secure it with a snappy then it will fit quite well for even the smallest bum. The Three fold flapped in the back and front secured with a snappy is ideal for a newborn. The Waterproof will however be bulky for the first 6 weeks I think so a well fitting waterproof that is sized might be better for a tiny one.

If you have an overlocker surging is very easy. You basically put 3 layers of squares ontop of each other, surge 3 seams to divide the nappy in three and then surge the edges.

Maybe you should give it a go and see hwo it turns out?
