Help- I'm officially a cloth nappy user!!

The Indian prefolds usually cost around $2 each and you're free to buy as many or as little as you like.

Do the econobums fit well on a newborn? This is my main concern with the one-size system (though, as mentioned I do have quite a nice stash of one-size as well).

I have actually considered making my own nappies, but I think I'll need to improve my sewing skills a bit before I take the plunge!

@ Lennongirl, have you ever considered making your own Prefolds? Would that not be cheaper? You could find some good quality unbleached cotton and surge it yourself. The Econobums are really very affordable and you can buy 12 Prefolds with 3 covers for R490. This is a very different product to the Bambino Mio brand as it's one size fits all and not sized like the other brand which would definately make them highly overpriced. If you don't mind me asking, what would you pay for the Indian prefolds?

Thanks for the response 2kid - I guess one of the main problems I have with the prefold availability in SA is that there are only 2 brands that allow you to buy prefolds seperately, both of which are fairly expensive for a pack.

I do realise that customs & shipping also play a role, however I still find that the price comes out much lower in most cases.

Also LennonGirl, just to differentiate. The only true south african brands are Mother nature Products, Earthbabies & Bio-Baba. All the rest are imported from overseas and mostly all from China like the diapers you bought from Nickis diapers and Alvababy.

lennon Girl, have you seen the Econobum Prefold on our site yet? www.doodlebums.co.za I also don't know why you say there is so little available when we have quite a lot to choose from and from the new week there will be two new brands on my website. Just remember when buying from overseas that your item must still go through customs and you wil lhave to pay the customs tarrifs which are very high.

I see a lot of people are talking about the South African brands available and I've bought some of those myself (bambino mio covers & prefold and mother nature fitted nappies), but was wondering if anyone has ordered nappies from overseas?

If so, which ones did you get, where did you order from and what is your experience with them? Looking at overseas sites it just seems like there is a much wider variety available that one simply cannot get hold of here. The prefolds on overseas sites are sooooooo much cheaper than we can buy here, it's ridiculous. I also like that many of the overseas sites also offers 2nds or previously used nappies - generally they are in very good condition still and the savings really do add up.

I've ordered two one-size pocket diapers from Alvababy (very cheap and free shipping) and have just put in an order for some Indian prefolds and a couple of diaper covers from Nikki's Boutique. I specifically wanted the prefolds plus covers for the newborn phase as I think the one size diapers I have might just be a bit big for the first few weeks, but the prefolds and cover options in SA are super limited! Especially if you're looking for something that is cute as well.

I need potty training nappies ( if there is such) for Amara. The bamboo nappies I got for him are great , will def keep them for next baby.
