Help- I'm officially a cloth nappy user!!

Yes I know - I just have to figure out how LOL. I know ill get it right but tonight when I showed them for the first time to MIL I was confused as to where they should clip Will try the higher grade stuff when I have my brain back for myself

Lucy - that white picket fence dream is not so impossible... Just pray for a very easy baby LOL

Thanks Gerne and 2Km - I think i am still in that dreamy white picket fence happy family dream world. LOL!! I suppose reality is going to hit hard when baba arrives.

2KM - Thanks for the reminder on the stats. I never seem to remember them when asked, guess porridge brain doesn't help. But I am going to try to at least remember that the energy to make 1 disposable nappy = 200 washes for 1 cloth nappy!!

You know with the MN nappy that for Ruben you will have to fold the front of the nappy down once and then clip the prestuds hey?

To be quite honest Lucy, I never have time to stack my nappies in anywhere. They are in one of 4 places at any given time. 1. on my childs bum, 2. in the bucket dirty, 3. on the line, 4 in the clean laundry basket and then the process starts again. I have 28 nappies and I still don't get them all folded into a nappy stacker. I have one of those old fashioned ones on the hanger and I have never used it.

I can't wait to start using cloth nappies on my 2nd LB, just hope he decides to come before Christmas LMAO

I must say I am very impressed with the MN nappies. I was a bit scared but I think they are just great. They fit perfectly for my 20 month old - will just see how they fit Ruben.


Nox, I think its nonsense. You don't use that much water or energy to wash these nappies at all. I use a low cycle and the machine is finished very quickly.

Storage...I use the the cloth type hanger thing! It works okay, there is just limited space. The cloth is much bulkier than normal nappies.
Then I also use the top drawer for the proofs and liners and stuff.
2KM maybe you should invent a nice holder and sell it you'll be rich!

Better for the Environment
There is a huge debate going on at the moment as to whether cloth nappies are really better for the environment or not. Before you make up your mind, take the following into account:
If you reuse your grey water from your washing machine and use eco-friendly washing powders you greatly reduce your impact on the environment.
What most people do not take into account is the fact that manufacturing disposables also creates waste before they land up on the shop shelves. Huge factories making components and assembling nappies create hundreds of thousands of tons of waste and pollution.
Many people mistake the word disposable for bio-degradable, when in fact it is estimated that the plastic and other in-organic components take 500-1000 years to break down.
There are approximately 216,000 babies born every day in the world. Just think how much waste is created if each child creates over 2 tonnes on waste just by wearing disposables?
Disposable nappies use 3.5 times more energy, 8 times more non-renewable raw materials, 90 times more renewable materials than washable nappies. It takes as much energy to produce one throw away nappy as it does to wash a cloth nappy 200 times.
