So xcited!!!!!
Ruru is 4months 4weeks & started sitting completely upright yest. So I decided to see if he would pick up food. I was eating eggs & bread & he took my bread & put it in his mouth, while sitting all by himself!!!! He balances so nicesly now, moves around & dsnt fall
I dnt have a feeding chair yest so I was sitting behind him, just incase...
So anyway I decided to give him slics of peach to eat. he gobbled it up!!
I didnt cook it to make it soft. DH sliced it & Ruru just ate. He licked it at 1st for quiet some time them he put it in his mouth & started making chewing motions. All the was left in the end was the peach skin!!!
I took pics, but they on DH's phone, will upload soon as I can. He ate only two slices & started playing with the plate so I figured he was full

I tried looking for the book here, but its not available anywhere....
I dont know what to give him to eat now. Can he eat adult food???? If I give it to him do I have to modify it? Like less salt, no spices. If I put salt in the pot while Im cooking is that then too much for baby?
What food do I strt with?

Juno, I think (and don't take this the wrong way) if you can't handle it then don't do it. Hear me out, our babies learn alot about their world by how we react and if you have this severe reaction it might cause more harm than good.

I personally think that finger foods need to be introduced around 6 months so at some point you will have to let go of your fear or you might end up with a baby that is just as scared as you of lumps and texture. And the chances of actually choking increases from 8 months on. But it is really up to you.

BLW worked for me because I'm very layed back, food for B was/is a learning curve and she loves trying anything and everything.

Oh it's no where close to becoming that! Thank goodness.

My epiphany for the day though is that it's actually poor baby who can't handle it yet!

I think it's really important that we accept that babies develop at their own pace and I'm probably putting way to much pressure on a baby (nogal prem) that can hardly sit supported let alone unsupported! He also has no interest in grasping food for himself yet unless I put it into his hand and even then he needs assistance in getting it into his mouth.

So what I've been doing everyday now is just placing a few bits of food in front of him and letting him play - even though it all lands up on the floor! At some point he has to get it :)

At the end of the day you are quite right though. No method is the "right" way as such and all have their merits and de-merits. Do what you are most comfortable with.

I'm totally hooked now, this thread is fascinating.Cant wait 4 Tristen 2 turn 5/6 mnths.I work with a 63yr old lady whose grandbaby lives with her. That boy was about 4 or 5mnths when she started sharing her plate with him.She used 2 say that he was watching her food and her mouth while eating and he got so excited. At times he would grab at her plate so she then started giving him all adult food-mince,spaghetti,meat,drumsticks,slabs,etc coz she just couldnt stand the way his eyes were pleading with her 4 some.We used 2 shout her coz we thought his tummy was too immature 2 deal such food.He used 2 cry if she gave him baby food and he saw them eating regulars. But thinking back now I dont recall her ever mentioning that lb had tummy problems or was sick besides a cold now and then.Shell be so in her noppies when I tell her that there are actually pple who recommend her feeding style.Go Fezi!!

I cant find my post so bear with me if I've missed it somewhere.
Do you still have to start with weetbix first, I mean how did you initiate it? Did you just dish up dinner for her too one day?
O and thanks again for dedicating yourself to this thread, I had heard of blw before but hearing your story is awesome and the fact that you are prepared to answer our questions is sweet. xx

Thanks Memo!

To answer your question, I actually started with just a piece of toast (white or brown not wholewheat) 2 or 3 times a week to see when she was ready (as in I handed it to her and let her play, just to keep her busy, until I saw that she actually started taking it to her mouth and gummed it) and I don't breastfeed but from 5 months on I started demand feeding B and except for the occasional piece of bread she only had her milk.

When she was ready (as in she actually ate some of the bread) I made a nice dinner, sat her down in her bumbo and she had her first dinner with us at 5 months 3 weeks - you possibly saw the pics on the first page. The next day I went all out with breakfast and lunch but after a week or two I gave up on breakfast because it somehow clashed with our routine and she wasn't interested in food in the morning, just wanted her milk. So I stopped breakfast and just did lunch and dinner until round 9 months when I saw an increase in the amounts she started eating then I put breakfast back on the menu.

Tonight while we were moving servers Memo posted this, I copied it since it was done on an older backup of the forum, so it disappeared once the forum got updated.

I'm still reading through, but i'm wondering... how did you first initiate things? With weetbix? or did you just sit down to dinner and dish for her too.
