Hello All

Its been a while since I visited the forum, my log in says 19 October 2012. Well I gave birth on the 8 November 2012, to a healthy baby girl and I had a very SUCCESSFUL VBAC...Was so happy when it all finished, and now I have made a decision the next time with definately be another natural birth! The experience was amazing, my gynae the nurses, the staff at Christian Barnard was just amazing!!

The night/morning of the 8th November, I was very restless in my sleep, and I felt funny, didnt know what was wrong, no cramping or anythng tho, just felt weird and felt I needed to be checked out...Woke up about 6am and showered and told hubby that I wanted to go in to have myself checked out, at first he didnt want to take me and wanted to send me with his father but I wouldnt allow that then I said I would drop him at work and then he too didnt want to do that then I told him I would get my own brother to take me, thats when he decided he would take me, so I got to hospital at about 8ish, with no hospital bag or nothing, as I didnt expect it to be labour...Then they hooked me up to the machines and monitored me and about 8:40 I was told by my gynae that I am in early stages of labour, I looked at my husband and told him "and you didnt want to bring me in" my immediate thought was my 4year old daughter at school, called her immediately at school and told her the great news that her sister will be coming out to meet her and she was so excited, the school let her make me a card while I was in labour so that when she came in to see me and her sister she could give it to us.

So I did the walking up and down the ward and i did the breathing, and then they moved me to another room, where the gynae broke my water at about 2pm, OMW I think that was the worse part when they broke my water, I think I kicked the gynae and the nurse blue...anyways once that happened, contractions became alot stronger and more intense, and closer together, I tried to go as far as possible without the epidural any by 6pm I had said, fine call the anaethesist. What a lovely man he was and so gentle.By 7pm, I was more relaxed and was able to rest and take a nap....I was in and out of sleep all the time, and by 9:40pm, I was so exhausted and just need a full sleep...So anyways we put the lights off and hubby was stroking my hair and I fell asleep...the nurses came to check on my again about 11 and was told that I am full dialated and we are ready to go, then they called my gynae and she was there within 15-20 mins and the pushing began, I dont know where I got the strength from and how it even happened, how I pushed coz I couldnt feel a thing, but before I knew it, my gorgeous baby girl was in my arms and she was looking at me!She had such perfect timing I tell you, wow I couldnt believe it, my gynae was actually officially on leave as of 12 that very night as she was flying to Mauritius in the morning for a week, so my baby knew to keep mommy happy and to allow mommy to have a successful vbac she had to come out now before doctor goes away.

So thats my story in a nutshell..And I am very happy with it!!

Thanx to Dr. Salma Isaacs, for all the support and encouragment and all the staff at Chistriaan Barnard Hospital you guys were all amazing!!

Joeypoey,

Where are you from, then I can help you find a practitioner near you.

I normally recommend starting the course sometime between 20 and 27 weeks. Its a 5 week course and you need time to practice the techniques so starting much later is not ideal. Although I have had great results with moms who literally finished the course a day or two before going into labour!
