Lisajunebug, I personally think it's not necessary to have an IV and catheter inserted.

Please also ask Kim under the experts forum. I will mail this link to her as well.

Yeah Pseudo that was not necessary to reply like that...vaginal birth is a natural process..If it wasnt safe then God wouldnt have created it and many of us wouldnt be on earth..

I had a successful vbac a year ago. Only time the catheter was inserted was 1ce I had the epidural in my back. I dont understand why he would want to put a catheter in immediately, I mean walking around and boucing on a ball is what helps during the labour process.

Please ignore the :swear: internet troll who registered only to be an :mooning: . This thread is so positive and I love following it, so I hate it when this happens. I asked for the comment to be removed.

That is a bit uncalled for, Pseudo.

Sorry I do not have advice Lisajunebug. I had a vbac without a catheter and IV. It is not necessary to have them, and I am sure other ladies here did not have them either. Maybe have a chat with your midwife and gynea?

You need to think about what is more important to you, the safe delivery of your baby or the experience of pushing a baby out of your vagina.

Also in need of advice please!

I am 36 weeks, hoping for a vbac. Been seeing a midwife and a gynae, but the midwife will deliver my baby (hopefully!!!) and I need to find a doula in the north of johannesburg. Any recommendations?

Also, today at my checkup, the gynae told me that when I come in to hospital in labour, I need to have a catheter inserted as well as an IV once I get to 4 cm, for safety reasons (so they can easily monitor for blood in urine in the event of a uterine rupture). I am not happy about this at all as I imagine it will make it harder to move around during labour and have a water birth etc. and therefore limit my chances of vbac. Does anyone have any advice for me?

Thanks.
