Hey ladies

We used Avent for our LG but now I'm thinking of changing to Tommie Tippie. I just like the "look" of their bottles. and I've also heard great things about them as they mimick the shape of the breast. Avent is also a bit "old school" so wanna go for something "hip" (& ofcourse good for the baby) :)

So, it'll be about 4x newborn bottles (o+ months)
Then will buy more of the 3+month bottles. Checked at Baby City yesterday and I didn't see anything bigger than 3+month bottles.
Will also get the microwave sterilizer, thermal bottle bag, electric bottle warmer (HATED having to wake up at night to warm a bottle using boiling water!)

Saw the CUTEST bowls (obviously for later) at BC, they have like a clip-on spoon so the spoon stays attached to the bowl & they are vaccum sealable.

Please keep us updated on nappy & wipes specials ladies! Would really appreciate that. I will also let you all know when I see them.

Nappy brand:I 1st tried Huggies with my LG but found them too paper-ish and sometimes the pictures rubbed of onto her white vests. Then changed to Pampers Active and have never looked back. I find them soft and comfortable and they smell nice :) I've never really seen the need to use Pampers Premium because we never had problems with Pampers Active.

Gynaes: Eish, mine is a long story! I love my gynae and would love to use him for the 2nd pregnancy BUT and this is a big but, I want a vbac and he is not keen on vbac's. :( I am going to see him tomorrow, just because its my first visit etc, but I think i am going to have to seriously consider looking for one of the Genesis midwives & plan to give birth at Genesis.

Belaine I'm sure we'll have some new members soon! All BFP's to come will be November mommies :)
And yes you have lots of people to answer questions!!!
Can't believe u guys are so far already! Are you starting to show?
I was about 12 weeks when I could see I was pregnant. Before then its all very surreal and stressful.

My SIL and a friend have used Tommy Tippee and both are very happy.
Apparently they mimic breastfeeding closely. But we used Pigeon bottles as they were very natural and a little 'old school' looking. We tried Nuk first but from breastfeeding, my LO refused it entirely. But took quite easily to Pigeon.
If ur planning to breastfeed dont buy too many bottles incase ur LO doesnt take to it. Heard many stories of moms buying every brand under the sun before finding one that worked. All in all I'm very happy with Pigeon, and I know it, so will probably stick to it. But definitely want to pass on the old ones and buy new. Although at this stage K still drinks 2 milk bottles a day and the occasional water in the bottle too so we'll have a lot of bottles in our house!

Keep an eye out on nappie specials. Game has lovely specials on pampers, as does Dischem every 3 months or so.

What nappie brands does everyone use?
I have now tried almost all of them and still happy with Pampers Active as my 'go to' nappy.

We bought a 2nd hand angel care monitor and it is working perfectly, have always used it and will continue to do so.

Re gynaes. Is everyone sticking to theirs?
The only recommendation I would make is to ensure you see a fetal specialist at around 13 weeks and again 22 weeks. Normal gynae's aren't trained to look for detailed defects. Just speaking from experience, its really important.

First angel resting 25/06/2009 stayed with us a short 7 weeks but we still miss you.

Hi Joybaby

I'm going for my 1st scan tomorrow. According to my own "google" calculations, I should be 8wks 5days tomorrow. I'm a little bit nervous because with this preg, I haven't felt nearly as sick as the 1st one. So...I keep wondering if that's maybe a bad sign? My appointment is at 12:30. wish it was earlier.

Think I'm also going to start stocking up on nappies, wipes, bum cream. we do use the top-to-toe wash quite a bit and we use Epimax for baby's skin so going to buy a few of those as well. There's a special at PnP for 4 packets of Pampers wipes (64 per packet) for R74.99. Bought some yesterday but still in the process of potty training my 22 month old :( Can't wait till she's off nappies. I really don't want to have 2 children in nappies.

on the room decor, I'm getting the beds & pedestals next month. So, i'll spend the rest of this month deciding on a colour scheme. I think the idea of going mainly neutral is the best. Then they can each have specific small items in girly or boyish colours like cushions, throws etc.

Predictions? I honestly have NO idea!!! seeing as I am having very little MS, maybe its another LG? I really don't know!

Hello ladies.

Yay our group is getting nice and big!
Sorry that I have been scarce!

I've only known I'm preggers for a week but I definitely do not feel it yet! Am so tempted to go for bloods to make sure its doubling but I really dont want to become obsessive like I was last time.
I dont have any symptoms, but I do get major lower back deferred pain from my growing uterus which makes me feel like I have my period, its very uncomfortable.
And changing nappies is going to become a huge issue I can see! Really struggled this morning changing an 'antibiotic' runny nappy!

Mrs SH I hope your migraine is gone now and that you got to sleep it off.

Shew a lot of 2nd time moms here!
Kaylee is now 18 months old, so thankfully the amount of things to get ready is far less!
We have to buy new bottles and toiletries but we have mostly everything else.
I breastfed for the first year. When I went back to work at 9 months I put her onto formula during the day, but since she was on solids it was only 2 bottles a day, and then continued to breastfeed morning and night.
As for expressing, when I was still home I used to try express a little to build up a stack for when I was out. I went to plastics warehouse and bought 1 use storage bottles. They are safe for freezing and you can buy 50ml and 100ml bottles and they work out at around R1 each, compared to madela storage bags which are R10 each!

We're in a 2 bedroom house and no scope to move any time soon. K was in our room the first year, so we plan on keeping baby in our room the first year again and hopefully by then we can buy a bigger house so they each get their own rooms. Otherwise we'll cross that bridge when we get there.
But I am getting rid of the wooden cot this time, only going to make use of the camp cot. We are moving K into a bed soon so that'll be her room for the next 18months or so which I think she'll enjoy.

Will need to start stocking up on nappies, wipes and bum cream soon. Those are the things we really use a lot. Other toiletries I find we dont use as fast so we can manage it into our monthly budget.

Anyone told others yet?
We told my inlaws the day we found out, because we really wanted prayer to protect this baby from developing heart defects like K has. And they are part of the intercession team at our church.
Told one friend the day we found out cos I needed someone I could tell!
And told my mom today, the first time I've seen her properly since K's op.

When are you all going for your first scans? With K I went at 6 weeks but doc couldn't find any baby. Figured she was hiding, cos my HCG levels were rising nicely. So had to go back again at 8 weeks. In the meantime I started spotting and was really freaked out. At 8 weeks all was fine :D But due to the spotting was back at 10 and 12 weeks!
So this time around I'm trying to freak out a little less!
I'm planning on booking first scan for 7 weeks, but depends on work, if I start a new job 1 March I'm not sure I could take a long lunch so soon. But I really dont want to have to go before 7 weeks its too stressful.

No real symptoms yet. Going to the loo a lot, and my nipples are super sensitive!
This morning K's crazy diaper changes were a huge challenge though so really hoping I dont get MS too long.
With K I only had MS from 10-12 weeks thankfully.

Any predictions on team pink / blue? With K I was 100% sure it was a girl and I was right. But this time I dont have that feeling. We found out the gender at 16 weeks last time, and first movements felt at 18 weeks. Will be interesting how it happens this time!

First angel resting 25/06/2009 stayed with us a short 7 weeks but we still miss you.

Morning,

Jeez, yesterday I had to go home at 11am due to a flippen migraine that hit me out of nowhere! I'm not prone to head aches, but I've been feeling so rotten because of the ever-present nausea that I couldn't drink anything, so I think I got dehydrated. ANyway, got home, smashed two Panados and slept for 2 hours. When i woke up, I felt so much better. It was awful though! I don't remember getting migraines with Alex.

Re MS & gender: No, I was also constantly nauseaus with Alex who is a boy. My friend has two girls - with the one she had no nausea and the next one she had terrible nausea.

Re bottles: I breastfeed exclusively for 6 months. I had my trusted Medela breastpump and gave him Medela bottles and teats from 3 weeks old when I wanted a night off. We will probably go down that route again. My in-laws live in the uK and sent me the teats and storage bags etc. When we went onto formula, I continued with those bottles and teats and just bought the BPA bottles from Snookums for R30. I refuse to spend R90 on a bottle when there is a cheaper and equally safe alternative available.

Belaine - how cute are those manicure sets? It's so dinky and small. To this day, it's still something that i hate (cutting nails).

We also have a 3 bedroom house. I decided that Alex will stay in his room and we will put baby in the guestroom until he/she sleeps through and then we will put baby in Alex' room so that they can share. For Alex' room, we kept it very neutral - it's done in a stone/brown teddy bear colour. We didn't paint it or anything, we just put up white-stone-washed frames up with pictures of teddy bears in it. It should work for either gender - until they decide what they want!
