@ Santie, You were in my thoughts the whole weekend, but could not write* hug* I agree with the ladies saying you must get a second opinion and fetal assessemnt before you can make a decision. Take your time.

@Sterretjie good luck with your scan, hope you bring us good news of which team you'll be betting on Blue or Pink!!

Hallo to all other mammas, hope you are enjoying the wet weather.

AFM- I had an emotional wreck weekend...I was sad and very quiet and yesterday I broke down and crried when DH asked what the problem is because i have been off teh whole weekend I am fine today. I have never had an emotional rollecoster feeling with my previous two pregnancies ...and I wondered what the old wives tales would predict i'm having because of this

Eventually we got rain and it is still raining and I am loving it. Reminds me so much of Cape Town winters and boy, do I miss them.

Santie - hoe gaan dit met jou? Soos Goggatjie het ek ook die hele naweek aan jou gedink. Ek stem saam met Goggatjie en alhoewel dit elke persoon se persoonlike keuse is moet ek se ek sal ook nie gaan vir die toets nie. My rede is eenvoudig - toe ons uiteindelik swanger geraak het met my dogtertjie was ek sterk oppad 35 toe en het alreeds 6 jaar gesukkel om swanger te raak. Ek en my man het nie vooraf geweet watse toetse daar is nie en toe die dr ons vra of ons wil gaan vir 'n "Amniocentesis" was ons antwoord dadelik nee. My gyne wou weet hoekom nie en ek het net gevoel ek kan nie vir 6 jaar my kniee deurbid vir 'n kind en as ek een kry dan se ek sorry, ek wou nie eintlik daardie een gehad het nie. Ek is nou sterk oppad 39 toe en weereens sal ek nie gaan nie. Dit bly jou persoonlike keuse en alhoewel ek dalk nie die regte antwoord het nie wil ek net se baie sterkte en ons almal dink aan julle!!!!

AFM - I think the MS are slowly but surely fading . My scan is on Thursday late afternoon - cannot wait. Still tired but it could also be because of old age

Im not sure how practical this will be since you're outside of JHB but thought I'd pass on a bit of info I picked up a while back.

There is a new test available in RSA which is apparently 99.5% accurate at picking up chromosomal issues. Its a blood test where the babies DNA is isolated from ordinary maternal blood. Ie. its not invasive like an amnio. Its expensive (they charge in $ so it up around ~R8000 and medical aids dont pay- I think).... but worth investigating?

and perhaps call the Cape Town Claremont fetal assessment centre to find out if there is anyway of doing it through a regular pathcare/ or other blood test centre and then sending off the sample from where you are.
Apparently the actual analysis is done in the US anyway, so I wouldnt think it'll be an issue that you're outside of a major city?

Santie - Ek het baie heirdie naweek baie aan jou gedink. Dit is 'n groot besluit wat jy moet neem, en dit is glad nie 'n maklike ene nie. My eerlike opinie, ek sal dit nie doen nie. Al het my kind downs, of is iets met hom of haar fout, sal ek dit so aanvaar. Ek weet die gewag sal my seker vang om regtig te weet of daar iets groots fout is. Ek weet baie ander mammas sal anders voel, maar dit is hoe ek voel.
My klein niggie is downs, my skoonsus het dit nie geweet nie, bloedtoetse was reg, die scan was perfek, maar sy is nogsteeds downs, so alles kan twee kante toe gaan.

Ek dink aan jou, en onthou ons ondersteun jou almal.

I haven't had a Amniocentesis yet but I just want to say I am thinking of you and I am praying that all will be fine.

You so often hear that the dr says that something is wrong with the baby and then when the baby is born the little one is 100%. I agree with Stella - maybe see if your dr can do a fetal assessment first and take it from there.

I am so sorry about your news.

with what my dr told my about Amniocentesis scared me alot. but I must also add that because I already had a miscarraige, the risk for me are mush higher.
maybee a fetal assessment will also give you some answers.
I really do not know what to tell you
