Good morning Ladies

I have some good news and info for you on this cold Wednesday morning!

Have been to the Fetal Assessment Clinic on Monday in Cape Town (was referred to my first gynae because of twins and high risk).

Wow what an amazing experience. they literally checked everything! Have not been to normal gynae before at this stage as this is my first pregnancy, so not sure how it compares.

They checked the blood flow, 4 heart chambers, kidneys, measured all the limbs, head, checked the down syndrome factor (which is fine).

We waited an hour for the appointment as they was late and us being the 6th pair of twins for the day. hectic.

The Fetal Assessment clinic basically acts as "specialist" for the bigger scans (13 weeks and 20 weeks) and all high risk pregnancies. They have intensive knowledge to assist you in all situations.

I need to go back at 18 weeks and in between see my gynae (as he is a new gynae for me and I have not yet met him). The DR wants to monitor the growth of the babies as one is little bigger that the other. 69 grams, 6.9cm and 70 grams,7.3cm. AMAZING!!

Makatk, I think you are right, you can also do all the checking at your normal gynae and you are very lucky to have it all done in 4D. Its only when you are high risk, that they will refer you to Fetal Assessment and they basically just monitor more than the gynae.

I will ask the gyni, as i have said before with my son i went through the gorvenment. So things are done differently there. Not sure where i have read that people go to fetal assessment between 20-22 weeks and bring the result to your gyni. But am sure next i will know how it works and the difference.

@Jay, I'm a bit confused, what is the difference between the normal scan where Gynae checks all teh vitals signs VS fetal assessment.

With my previous pregnancy I only consulted with my Gynae and each visit he runs a scan full 4D scan and the only thing extra we did was to take blood samples at about 20 weaks ( not sure if that is the fetal assessment you are talking about ).

I'd suggest you ask during your next appointment with the gynae if it is really necessary or not.

Do our hubby's worry about this things just a thought

Usually the gynie does the assement
But if the gynie is concerned and tell you to go to a very professional sonographer, then I would go, but if the gynie is not concerned, then I do not think you have to go pay extra for it

My sonographer (I do not go to a gynie), does the fetal assement anyway, so it is not if she charges extra for it.

Jay, i think you should just talk to your gynie monday and ask what the fetal assessment can see that the gynie can not. and talk about the diffenence and the importance of the fetal assessment.
I personnally think that just going to the gynie is good enough. if there is something wrong with the baby the gynie will also pick it up.

i say this, but i also do not know what they do different at the fetal assessment, but i will definately discuss it with my gynie as well before i decide if i'll do the fetal assessment. i think i'll only do it if my gynie really recommends it.

But i personally thing that the 20 week scan is the most important of them all.
They check that all is normal witht he baby.

I only do 2 scans, the 12 week one and the 20 week one. I do not do any other scans, because it is not so important.

And my DH will treat me for a 4D scan at about 30 weeks

But this is just my opinion

I forgot to add, that no ms have come my way in along time now i think it's gone for good. I still do feell tired where i just want to nap, besides that i am feeling great. Every now and then i would have light kicks, it's so exciting, looking forward to next week for my scan.

So ladies tell me, it is necessary to do that scan of 20-22 scan at the fetal assessment? Cause now next week monday i ll pay 500 for my checkup, then in 4 weeks again pay then still same month i will be 21 weeks. I ll be dead broke by then. Or can i just be satisfied with what ever my gyna tells me
