Hi everyone

Quick update... Laila is better, I'm using the Parsons & Ashtons teething powder and Teejel. Also, she's been sleeping like a charm the last 4 nights! She has bottle around 6 pm, goes to bed just after 7 and sleeps till 1, when she wakes by herself for her bottle, then sleeps again till about 5:30. Don't want to jinx it, but have to say YIPPEEEEEE!!! For now at least.. :woohoo:

Gloei, if Faffy's assumption on AF is correct then the answer is yes, it was fine, a bit longer than usual but not too bad overall. Been to the gynae as well and he says I'm "as good as new" tsk tsk have recovered in all aspects.

We're also having a good trial run on day care today. Hubby needed to go for business meetings today and I'm at work so had to drop Laila at her gran this morning. First time that she's staying there for the whole day without me or dad being with her. Hopefully that will give us an indication of what will happen next week at day care.

Anyhoot, need to dash - work is piling up.

Take care fellow mommies!

hi ladies.

I think AF means aunt flow? periods? If so..no periods for me yet. Thank goodness. I'm enjoying not dealing with that. really want to get a more permanent contraception than the pill but scared. heard so many bad stories and my body doesn't like hormones.

RonelleB I'm sorry laila is crying so much. I hope it gets better soon. Fynn is luckily very happy most of the time. He is clingy though. Also his sleeping is now going wonky. Apparently a 4 months sleep regression? he wakes up at 4am miserable until about 8. also wakes every 2, sometimes 1 hour. I just feed him every time.

going back to work is very scary to me. I think I am going to see a therapist. I feel very anxious and overwhelmed. I am having nightmares about losing Fynn and it's very upsetting. I feel like I need to do things perfectly and be the perfect mom but now I must leave him at the most crucial age of his life. It makes me feel like a bad mother. hope it gets easier. reading things doesn't help. Everything says leaving baby this young can cause psychological damage. Anyways, I have no choice. I'm going to convince my boss to open a daycare at work. Let's hope I succeed.

RonelleB -

Sho, crying 70% of the day? That sounds rough. Is her reflux under control? Perhaps take her back to a Pead. Hope you have a good one that is patient and willing to answer all mommy questions. I have met so many rude impatient peads that I am so lucky to finally have found one that I totally love. I understand that reflux makes babies miserable. Don't know if it is just that or if there could be someting else?. Shame, really sounds as if you are having a tough time. I guess it could be teething, but I would try and find out if there could be something else wrong medically? Perhaps an ear infection?

I wouldn't worry about not having a strict schedule. We don't have a very specific routine except trying to stick to a day sleep every hour and a half (was closer to 70 - 80 minutes at age 3 months). We have bedtime between 6 - 7 pm. Her daily feeds are every 2 - 3 hours. I think we will get more into a routine around 6 months. But remember as they get older the "routine" changes as well since sleeps and feedings occur at different times. That is our take on it anyway.

Do you watch her awake time? Don't wait for baby to look tired. Does she take a dummy? Swaddling working for you?

About whether if things get better...yes and no I think. Certain things get better but other things become more challenging. Once they start to sleep better at night ones life seem to come back. For us it was about at age 3. Sorry - I know, please don't jump off a cliff! It is hard to say when things will get easier as all babies are different. Perhaps invest in a book like Sleepsense, it helps to know what to expect in terms of sleep and rectify problems soon.

*****If I may insert my personal tip here - at 6 months get a pead to check out your babies health. If in good health and weight range, ask your Pead/clinic sister if you still need to give night feedings. IN MOST CASES if baby is well baby doesn't need night feedings from 6 months onwards. If you carry on to give night feedings it will only be for the purposes of comforting and not due to nutritional demands. Many parents carry on to give milk bottles past this age and dig themselves a gigantic hole with the "feeding trap". Baby may still need a very early morning feed like around 5:00 am but not the 2:00 feeding anymore. *****

Hope everyone has a great week ahead!! xx

Hello fellow mommies!

Seems life is taking all of us on an interesting ride at the moment.. ;)

@Gloei_I'm sorry to hear about your Mirena experience, that is hectic! And I feel so bad that you can't even continue with your gardening adventure due to the POP. I hope you manage to find another release.

Mm, also, what is an AF? You mentioned below, but I haven't the foggiest

@Nels_I'm also jealous of your chickens too.. Love fresh eggs.

@Faffy_I know how you feel. Even though I am back at work already, daddy is still with Laila till month end. She's EXTREMELY clingy at the moment and will not allow us to put her down somewhere or be without us, I also wonder what they will do with her at the daycare. Will it get better or worse?

Not only do we have a clingy baby, she's still crying at least 70% of the day, sleeping is almost non-existent too and her appetite's gone for a ball of cheese, we fight at every feeding session over the bottle. I think she's teething. We're zombies at the moment and losing our senses at the rate of naughts - not good as my patience is thin and I get so angry when I'm sleep deprived :-( What do we do? Will it go like this till she's 2 or 3? I cannot possibly make it that long...

We've also started on rice cereals, interesting experience for her. She's getting the hang of it, though we're only still on a teaspoon full in the morning only. I've had to change her drinking schedule a week ago to accommodate the fact that we're introducing "meals", but we just cannot get into a structured schedule it seems, we're all over the show.

THIS IS HARD!!!!!!! And no one seems able to give us advice... Help? Please?

Hi Ladies,

So great to hear from everyone!

Nels, I agree, it makes sense to be extra cautious with allergies in the family. I am already missing the normal breastfed diapers since we started solids...you know... :silly:

ahhh....I am so jealous of your chickens - it is fantastic to be able to keep them. I am still trying to figure out how I can sidestep our Estate rules about no poultry....He he he. I started a vegetable garden about 3 years ago and it has become one of my main unwinding destressing activities. There is something very powerful to grow something and pick the fruit of hard labor and taste the goodness. My LG loves playing in th garden with me and she also helps out and enjoys harvesting the veggies and eating them straight away!! Currently my veggie garden is resting and will have to wait until my energy levels increase (hopefully it will). The physio told me I won't be able to do gardening again, but I am hopeful that I will be able to do some of my previous gardening activities.

Are you still battling with headaches from the spinal?? I hope those have cleared up by now.

Faffymum,

My heart breaks for you. I think it must be one of the hardest things to do as a mother but I understand that when there is no other way then it is the only option. Although I agree with what your book is saying, I believe that if your LO is really well cared for and his needs are being met he will be fine. If you can structure life in such a way that the time that you do spend together is quality time I believe it can make up for the lost 8 hours to a certain extent. Have as much physical cuddly time possible as it is that physical touch that makes baby feel secure. If you can, try to wear baby with a baby carrier once you get home while doing the cooking and getting things ready for bedtime for baby. The daymom sounds lovely. I will pray for an outcome for work for you. xx

Ugh...the Mirena...Apart from just not having much joy the first year with it once the horrible symptoms (acne, moodiness, depression) cleared up I became pregnant. Anyway, long story short I had an ectopic pregnancy but it was only diagnosed while I was literally bleeding to death and made it just just through with an emergency operation and blood transfusion. I lost my ruptured falopian tube. One of the side-effects of the Mirena is a much higher increase in risk of ectopic pregnancy. But like I have said, for many women the Mirena is great. Unfortunately the only way to know if it will work for you is to try it.
Hubby going in for Vasectomy tomorrow although it is only effective and safe after 3 months.

So good to hear that StarryEyed and Newbiemom are doing well. Thanks for letting us know.

Anyone who has had AF already???

hi ladies.

hope you're all doing well.
I have 11 days left at home. Then I will have to leave my baby with a daycare. It is breaking my heart. Every time I look at him I see this innocent face that has no idea his mommy is planning on leaving him for 8 hours a day. He thinks him and mommy will be together for ever. It is tearing me apart. I wish with all my heart I could stay home with him. At least until a year old. I am reading this book and it says babies who are separated from mom become traumatized to a certain extent. They develop independence issues and trust issues. It breaks their psychological strength to learn. I have no choice though. I have to work. I am praying for a way to stay.
I have found a lovely daymom. although she has quite a few kids. so she will not give him one on one attention for as long as I'd like. I wish I could find someone who only has like 3 babies and that's it. A nanny would cost too much. Feeling so angry with society.

Otherwise. my son is amazing. I love him dearly. He is just my favourite person in the world.

gloei: I got rid of the thrush and lump. Thank goodness. didn't burn any bra's! lol
what happened with your marina?
can't believe time has flown hey. scary.
so glad your baba's skull is fine. Such a relief

Nels_n: glad all is good. Also exclusively breastfeeding. soon I'll be expressing at work for baba at daycare. hope it goes well.
newbiemom and starry are on Facebook. They seem good. starryeyed is going to gym and doing lots of outings.

:-)
