Babies April 2015

Hi Ladies,

On my side things have been rough. I have now have had a total of 5 migraines in a week and a half. It has really taken everything out of me and it has been extremely difficult to cope with work, caring for my 5 year old and managing the house work (without support structure from family and friends). I went to our clinic on monday for a drip, just saline and paracetemol. It seemed to have helped a bit and haven't had a migraine since (touch wood). I took 2 days off from work and will only work limited time periods in front of the computer as the screen seems to cause my eyes to see flickering lights (until I seem better).

On the bright side, I feel the baby move at least once a day. I purchased the fetal doppler instrument from baby boom and could find the heartbeat very quickly. It has been amazing to hear the little heartbeat while lying on my own bed!

I am hoping that everyone is so quiet because they are busy with work and not because they are feeling too sick!!

Would love to hear how everyone else is doing?

StarryEyed, So amazing that you and your sister will be having your babies so close together, hope you don't live too far so that the cousins can play regularly? So you haven't told any family yet??? It is going to be such a surprise!

Okay, you are really NOT sleeping well! I have no idea about the pain in your ribs. I only get that when I am really stressed, don't know if it could be that? Perhaps with your track record of adventures you should rather speak to a doctor sooner than later?!

Oh boy, sorry to hear that your hubby is portraying the same "male behaviour" as mine! I truly feel for you I know how upsetting it is!!

Yip it is cheaper although the initial layout is a lot in the beginning. I still have serious guilt about all the nappies we have dumped in the earth, that takes like forever (200 - 500 years) to decompose. That is HECTIC!
Not the best legacy one can leave for future generations...
I estimate we spent about R10 0000 - R12 0000 on nappies for my first child. A lot of money that could have been invested elsewhere.

I am just exhausted and can hardly keep my eyes open. The 3 migraines of the past week has taken everything out of me. Hoping for a migraine free weekend.

Hey ladies

How is everyone? How was the public holiday? I was seriously bummed to miss out... but hubby has promised me a massive braai my first night back so I am really looking forward to that.

Anyone having scans this week? My sister had her scan and the baby kept turning around to face the scanner... so they only managed to get a brief picture of its bum as it turned and pictures of its face from the front... looks like a little alien at the moment... but I thought it was so cute and amazing, that it didn't want anyone looking at its bum. Cannot wait for my scan and cannot wait to start telling people.

I am still not sleeping great... but I have been recording the times I wake up so that I can keep track in case its an infection. Sometimes I sleep for an hour/ 2 hours/ 4 hours... so it varies. Last night I started with stabbing pain in my lower ribs... mostly on the right... what is this? Anyone else had this before? I get the ligament stabbing pain if I sit up too quickly but the rib pain happened while I was sleeping and it woke me up. Either my nausea is getting better or I am getting used to it... its still constantly there but it doesn't seem to bother me as much and I am managing to eat. Hope you are all feeling better... not long until second trimester!!

My hubby is in the dog box today... I have been having sleep problems all week and he knows about it coz I complain all the time to him! Anyway, he went out for a Bachelors party last night and drunk dialled me... then it took me almost two hours to go back to sleep... I am not impressed!! I did get my revenge coz I woke him up early this morning... and he had a hangover and was not happy *evil laugh*

This being my first pregnancy... there are so many things to think about... I don't even know where to start. I am going to look at that facebook site and try decide on nappies... I suppose its cheaper to use cloth? Right? Is it better for their little bums?

StarryEyed - It is great that you manage to drink some much water, certainly keep it up. Don't worry, hear in SA every weekend is a braai day...in 2 weeks time you can have one (if you don't feel too nauseas...).

Nels_n: Yip my hubby is having a hard time too...He is living from bread and whatever I managed to put together (usually not very exciting). Sadly he only comes home 7:30 so I can't wait until then for him to cook something (apart from the fact that he can't cook anything except an egg). But hopefully soon all of this will be something of the past and we can complain about not sleeping at night?!

Wow! You felt the baby! You are much further along than me so it is VERY possible. How wonderful!! I am going to lie very still this weekend and hope to feel something again.

Yes, all the articles say that one will only feel at the soonest 14 weeks with your second pregnancy. I agree, surely it must vary from person to person.

It is so encouraging to hear that you guys are also thinking about the cloth nappies and that Nels you used it before. Will have to take a look at that facebook site!!

Thanks nels! Yes, it looks like a huge mission to get a loan, but unfort6nately we dont have a choice... dont want to carry on renting if we can pay the same amount off on our own place.

Gloei, I have about 7 pills left before we see gyn again, so I wont buy a new packet and just ask him at our visit if I can leave it at that or buy a new box of 15 pills

I am definitely going the cloth nappy route this time. Really wanted to do it first time but got talked out of it. Not this time. I am sold on the bamboo nappies. Love them.

So funny!! I imagined earlier this morning that I felt one of those familiar baby flutters. Havent felt anyth like it since my first pregnancy. Not sure if it was the baby, but its a nice feeling to just think it might have been. Read a lot of articles that say its impossible. But I felt my son move at 14 weeks and dr laughed at me, said theres no way u can feel it so soon in a first pregancy, but I really did. The same movements just kept getting stronger.
I think I definitely depends on how intune you are with your body. Some people dont even realise they are pregnant before 3 months, and some know even before they can test. Totally depends on the person I think. Also 2nd time is known to feel movement earlier. Exciting!!

Gloei@ we have been living on eggs and bread lately because cooking is becoming unbearable. My poor husband has to cook 90% of the time now because i just cant stomach frying.
I hope your migranes get better, they are horrible and worse part is that taking panado does nothing to lesson the pain.
Dont worry, you were feeling your bundle. I thought it was wind then after a few little movements i realised it was baby and worse part dh kept telling me he can feel the movements when he puts his hand on my abdomen and i brushed him off when i felt it I had to apologise lol because the 'I told you so' comments would have never ended.
I used bamboo cloth nappies with my son from 13mths and found them super absorbant. This time around though i will try buy diff brands as I'm told the bamboos can be to big for newborns. There are so many options its confusing at times buy i found a facebook page (south african cloth nappy users) helpful as they share alot of info about what to use and what most moms prefer etc. So as of November I will start stocking on some nappies for baby
