TCS84, thanks for sharing your story. That gives me goose bumps. Going through all that normal delivery stuff is still fine if you know you'll be holding your baby on the other side of the drama. In your case...well, I'm not sure I could have survived that mentally. To be frank, I think the idea of a long labour is what's putting me off more than the physical pain. That's primarily why I'm anti normal deliveries.
Kiara, I've come across the argument of the "easy way out" so many times in my life! People who are pro-normal will often defend their decision by making you feel bad about yours. And vice versa, I guess. As someone who has been through a C-section, I just want to say that it isn't easy. Sure, the actual delivery is much easier, but the recovery is really hard. It's a major abdominal surgery and it hurts like the devil. You are physically impaired for at least 2 weeks, can't sleep because no position is comfortable, etc.
Also...I'm sure your hubby is a decent guy, but I would never let any guy's opinion on the issue bother me. It's easy to talk when it's not your body. Most men can't even handle the idea of a vasectomy, a tiny little surgery, so don't let him influence your decision. Your body, your call.
The lady who did our ante-natal classes said a very true thing that will always stay with me:
you fell pregnant to have a baby, not to give birth. Don't get too caught up in the delivery, it's only a steppingstone. I think she meant that to comfort moms who were hell-bent on normal delivery and then had to have a C-section in the end. But it's wise words and true for all of us
My philosophy in terms of delivery is to do what's right for you (as the mom), because it's the last time in your life that you will be able to make a decision for yourself first, after the birth everything is about the baby first. The baby is going to be fine either way, so think about yourself first and do what you want.
