It says it's a girl... And with my last appointment the Gynae said: If we want to know what we're having, we must ask my daughter. And out of the blue she just said, she's having a sister...

I however "feel" a boy - but I don't know if it is only because I would "like" to have a "mommies boy"

Either way - we'll know for sure on Monday and I'm beyond ecstatic!!! Just to finally start "bonding" with a colour and to give baby his/her name now.
For some reason I cannot "bond" with the white, yellow and stone colour clothes & blankies I've purchased... I need to know the gender!

Thanks for the info on the strollers! I'll be going to collect my Discovery/Vitality Baby Pack from ToysRUs over the weekend and will then have a browse. But so far my mind seems to be made up on the Chelino Switch, which is a replica of the Peg Perego Switch - at a quarter of the price!

Just out of curiosity: Is any of you suffering from pregnancy heartburn? If I think back I suffered from heartburn from the word go in my first pregnancy, yet this time around - nothing? So I'm trying to figure out - does it only happen later on in pregnancy?

I also had my first Braxton Hicks on Wednesday @ 16.4 weeks - lol, never had that with my first though...

I guess it's true what they say: No two pregnancies are the same

Congratulations Lillyr on a little girl, any name ideas yet?

@juanita I started stocking up on nappies and wet wipes. Got them at the mamamagic show and if I see any specials I take my opportunity. Now that I know it's a boy I can start stocking up on all the other things in blue

@louisemarie we luckily got a unisex travel system with my first as we had decided not to find out what baby was until born. With discoverys vouchers we paid R3000 at babiesrus. The shop assistant was brilliant told us that the system we bought was from 2011 but had exact same specs as the later models (2012) and with the discovery voucher we really saved, that was for the peg pereggo. There is just so much on the market and asked for advice from other moms and they pretty much said it all boils down to preference and money. We saw some amazing ones at the show that folded up so nicely but to be honest we sticking with the oldie I'd rather save that money on a bedroom suite for our little man when he is older.

As for the Chinese prediction it was spot on with our first and with this one I used www.baby2see.com/gender/prediction.html, I'd love to know what it says yours is meant to be and if on Monday it is. Sorry about your first experience that's aweful. Our gynae did such a thorough check she really wanted to make sure it was a boy even checking with colour and explained how the cord has the blood flow whereas the little appendage doesn't.

Anyway my next app is on the 16 July and we will be able to book our bed such exciting times!
Now the only stress I have is choosing a name!

We're hoping for a little boy, but would also be thrilled with another little girl... all pretty in pink! Only have to wait till Monday, but the suspense is too much, lol!

Gynae wanted to tell us @ 13 weeks already, but we had a bad experience with my daughter... Who was a little boy up until 20 weeks! And confirmed twice by the Fetal Assessment Centre and then again by my Gynae. So we didn't want to risk going through something like that again. (although I told them they were wrong, cause I can FEEL it's a girl...) was still sad when I "lost" my little boy...

So come Monday I'll be 17 weeks and she would be able to give us the gender FOR SURE!

Just a quick pop in to let you all know, went for my scan this morning and we are so excited we having a boy! Which means the Chinese Calendar was correct lol. Will post pics tonight or tomorrow and give my input on the travel systems and everyone else's posts, just hate posting on my cellphone.

With my 5yr old breaking her arm 2 months ago, my day to day is already depleted, so a test of R3k is definitely not on the cards fro me. I'm happy however that my gynae did a very thorough scan @ 12 weeks, and was very happy with everything - we could clearly see the nose bone, the nuchal fold was 1.2mm, heartbeat was strong, intestines all in place and overall happiness
For extra piece of mind however she did send me for the quad tests, which only cost R600. Come my next scan on Monday, she'll most likely send me for the following quad test. But everything came back right on track with my first quad test.

Can't wait to FINALLY find out the gender on Monday!!!

As for stocking up - I have no idea where to start! We have a few disposable nappies... but I'm scared of buying more, as I'm really considering the bamboo/cloth nappies. But at least we're covered with disposables for the first couple of months Then I've got wipes and some other essentials which we stocked up on with help of competitions I've won throughout the past 4 years! Biggest concern is WHAT travel system to choose... We won't have another baby after this one, so spending an exuberant amount on a travel system for only one baby is in my opinion a waste. What are your options/feelings with strollers/travel systems? Any particular brands/models you find tempting?

Hopefully once we know the gender, it will come a bit easier

how are you all doing?

so, i went for the check up today. and the little one is happy and healthy. Growing well. ...and its a little girl. Excitement has kicked in and i just wanna go shopping *hides* My hubby handled the news quite well, i thought he would be dissapointed because he was really hoping for a boy. We are 17 weeks 2 days, next check up will be in four weeks.

i am thinking of doing the 20 week scan, we didnt do the 12 week one. My hubby is not keen, he says what will we do if we find anything not right.. so my question ladies, what sort of things do they check for at these scans? and cant normal gynae scans pick those up?

i hope you are all doing well, and the little ones are growing.

@LouiseMarie - I think it's a standard scan after the 20 week mark. Obviously depends on your doctor. I went at 12 weeks 'cause I wanted to do DS screening. That one was just over R1000. Not sure how much this last one will be - it was an hour long! My radiology benefit will be maxed out, but fortunately my medical aid still pays 80% of claims after the limit is reached so I'm grateful for that!

I had a scare yesterday. Not sure if I had a tummy bug or a resurgence of morning sickness (with a vengeance!!), but I couldn't keep anything down yesterday and ended up on a drip. Just when I thought I'd avoided that kind of thing with a relatively smooth experience nausea wise for first trimester! So have been booked off AGAIN and am recovering at home. All that matters is that I can feel my little girl move and am reassured that she's ok.
