PP - one thing I learned with Elmarise... the books are nice and they give a lot of advice... But if your body and baby is not textbook style/majority, then it helps NOTHING.
I suffered a week with engorged breasts... Elmarise was feeding A LOT, as you can expect of a 4kg baby. I told the nurses I have to milk coming in and Elmarise can't finish it all - so they said I should just let her drink more. But how do you force a newborn to feed, when she had enough?
I asked if I can express, and they said no, cause then I'll only produce more milk.
Back at home I thought stuff that, and I started expressing on day 5 cause my boobs just got harder, fuller and more engorged.
The breastpump was my lifesaver!!! I would have Elmarise on the boob and let her drink as much as she possibly could, till she pulled away from the breast. Then I would put the breastpump on to assist with the last bit and let down.
That way I also managed to stock up a nice supply of frozen milk and my boobs weren't engorged any more.
I've packed my breastpump in for hospital, just incase... I know out of experience I produce a lot of milk. So I'll rather just be prepared this time around.
