Lollipop I'm sorry to hear that. Which vertabrae? My specialist works as part of a rehabilitation team including physio, biokineticist, OT etc. So for him the option of not operating is not just a case of living with it, he puts together a programe with the rest of the team comprising ways to limit the physical and psychological damage (did he even discuss chronic pain syndrome with you as this will be a factor in your kind of injury?) and even reverse certain types of injuries. They do a lot of work on coma patients and I am amazed that such a facility is found in Paarl of all places..It sounds like your specialist didn't do much at all in that area.

Pilates seems to be the answer to many conditions. I am definitely going to start doing it on a more regular basis. I am already under the care of the bio who is part of the team above - I became very lax in my daily regime hence the injury. Nobody also realised how bad it was until I had an MRI - normal x-rays didn't pick it up. One of those things..

Maybe you should perhaps see a rehabilitation biokineticist to see what they say in terms of programmes that will be good for your specific injury - would hate to see you go to somebody who doesn't teach positions properly - I've had that happen to me too many times...

How are you handling picking up Tristan? That is the worst for me though those back and stomach muscles (under the layers of fat) are getting really strong so hopefully it will get easier.

Eish after this post I think I'd better start a "bad backs" thread =)

Juno, been thinking of starting up Pilates. Two of my vertabrae's got fractured as result of a car accident, so what has happened it sort of pushed out the disk. I was also given the option that they can operate or just live with it...some specialists reallly have away with words dont you think?

Juanita, hope the poo nappies get sorted soon...

Morning all

So today is day 4 of exploding poop galore!! :( Leandi is fine though, eats (ok skips meals at her convenience) drinks her milk (soya, keeping her away from dairy at the mo) and she is not at all niggly, still sleeping well, just this runny tummy. I must say the meds are doing wonders and its mostly 3 nappies a day so that is also preventing her bums from burning, which is a relief.

Juno, i give her Kaostatex or you could try Pectrolyte. and then the all important probiotics and hydrol or something similar. Good to know, and keep in your house i suppose. Also, my pead told me not to give her any extra vitamins as this could feed the bacteria?? not sure, but it does kinda make sense.

Hey Rhodine I'm following your other post and I think it's a very good idea to have created this thread. In a way this is also going to be a form of therapy. It constantly amazes me just how many of us their are that have suffered/are suffering some form or other of depression. And certainly I think it helps knowing that you are not alone.

@ lollipop thanks for asking! I think you mentioned back problems so will share my experience in case it helps at all. I eventually went to an orthopaedic surgeon who has given me 2 choices - replace a disk to reduce the pressure on the nerve - NO WAY - or manage the pain through a regime of pilates and core strengthening exercises. I'm going for the latter. And my condition is nothing special - their are so many people who go through life just learning how to deal with the pain. So I feel very fortunate that I know what my options are and can make an informed choice.

Maybe tell him that baby teeth rot very easily and that he can explain to Tristan why he's constantly at the dentist. My partner also feeds Liam stuff like the occasional sip of coke, chocolate - but it's certainly not an everyday occurence.

Christelle I always have admiration for those who have the guts to do a blog. I would never be able to do it. I've always wondered whether it is a personality type?

Have a good weekend all.

Hi everyone,

struglling to keep up with the posts, please forgive me if I leave someone out.

Rhodine, sorry to hear about the work issues, very stressfull indeed. I also suffer from depression and I drink Solal's 5htp, works wonders and it is not that expensive. If i remember correctly I bought it online, but I think Dischem stocks it as well. I am thinking of you though, not easy.

DM-T was the same yesterday, when I went to pick him up he was just crying, for no reason. But settled when he saw that I wasn't going anywhere, what a way to fuel my guilt.

Charlotte, glad you managed to get started with the Court proceedings, yip, better have hair on your teeth, the wheels of justice rolls verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry slowly and may drive you to drink, but eventually it gets there. That was one of the things that really amazed me when I started working here, that some cases that was brought to court as urgent took years to come to a close? then it is mos not urgent?

Christelle, welcome! Love the blog!

I am struggling with my husband and his family giving Tristan sweet drinks, chocolates and what not. It is okay, give him a sweet every now and then, but not every day. Dh gave T chocolate first thing this morning, and when I tell him not to he just ignores me

Juno is your back better?
