Hi ladies. Liam isn't going through a growth spurt because during the day he has a feed every 2 hours, its only at night that he gets hungry so often.
Claudia, i also read that starting solids doesn't mean they will sleep through but like i said, i just want him to sleep for longer stretches at night. I'm also starting to worry about his weight gain, at 14weeks he weighed 6.5kg and now at 21weeks he's only 6.9kg. He eats cereal and a few veggies but it's just a few spoons and i also don't give him everyday. Re rolling, Liam hasn't quite managed it yet but he can turn onto his side. He also likes to sit so he can see his surroundings better.
Girly, before you know it K will outgrow her 0-3 months clothes. Liam hardly wore his and then we moved on to 3-6 months. He also has winter clothes in these sizes that i doubt he will get to wear and i can't exchange them. I had to stock up on shorts and t-shirts for him because it gets so hot in Durban. You must be so exhausted with K mixing up her day and night. I wish i had some helpful advice for you. Re clicking joints, Liam shoulder also does that sometimes but it doesn't hurt him. You mentioned your DH went to band practice, what band does he play in and what instrument? My DH played in the church band and he plays bass guitar.
Yaz, any news yet on when you have to go back to work? I really hope you find a good daycare or nanny if you have to go back to work so you can have peace of mind that your baby is well looked after. I didn't really notice much difference in Liam's behaviour before and after 3 months. He used to want me to carry him all the time when he was smaller but now that he's more active, he gets bored quickly and wants me to entertain him.
Today i had to take Liam to get the rotavirus vaccine as they were out of stock the last time and he was fine but from 6pm he started crying and wouldn't stop. I eventually put him on the breast and he fell asleep and still hasn't woken up yet. I'm going to try to get some sleep before he wakes up again. Good night mommies.

Hi ladies

Took Peyton for her vaccinations today. This time remembered to give her panado an hour before she got them. She cried blue murder but then slept in her car seat all the way home. She slept soundly for three hours after that. The nurse said that they sometimes get lethargic after the shots. Gave her a bath earlier this evening and put her to bed around about the usual time.

I was a bit worried today as last night she barely fed, refused breast and bottle and then again this morning drank about 10ml and only really had a proper feed at 15h30 - not sure why?

She is sleeping better, however I'm still struggling with midnight sleep after feedback. I keep everything dark and quiet but she takes foreverr to settle down and sleep, sometimes two hours and more and then its not long before her next feed, which also means I'm not getting any sleep.

I can't believe she will be 12 weeks on Sunday.

The nurse was happy with her weight gain, she weighs 5.39kg and is 58cm tall.

Girly its good to know there are still some good people out there re-no charge visit to paed. You are lucky to have found a paed that really cares

Yaz goodluck with the search for a creche - its a tough one that. Have you considered a day mother? Hopefully you won't need one till next year, crosing fingers for you.

Vash how is it going with Liam today?

Gerne, hope you holding up and getting some rest with your feet up.

Claudia how did you introduce James to solids? Before or after a feed?

Hey ladies:) Just thought I'd pop in:)

Wow, so many posts to read, so sorry about not replying!

@ Vash - that sleeping through, solids story is something made up by who knows... James was 3.9kg at birth (so a big baby) and I'm still not consistantly giving him solids (hes 5 months 3 weeks). He goes through spurts where he wont sleep through, (like the whole of last week), but as of Sunday Night he has been going through again - He had no solids on Sunday, Monday or Today.
I found 2 studies that were done and both found that starting solids earlier had NO impact on night time wakenings. Babies wake for comfort, food during growth spurts, they are practising new skills like rolling or they are uncomfortable. I find it crazy that on the forums that I caht on that are US and UK based 90% of people wait untill about 6 months to start solids and even then usually only do 1 meal a day for the first month?
I'm doing Baby Led Weaning, which I know isnt everyones cup of tea, but so far James has "played" with avo, banana, potatoe, baby marrow, brocolli, carrots and plain yogurt. He seemed to enjoy the avo, banana, and yoghurt, and to be honest I think I gave the other options too late in the day when he was tired!
6 months is recommended for full term babies in developed countries, so I'll go with their docs:)

I'm so frustrated. James rolled tummy to back at 2 and a half months. He did it ALL the time for about a month, and then stopped. He rolled back to tummy about 2 weeks ago and hasnt done it again. He now hates lying down and wants to sit rather. His physio mommy really wants him to be rolling around more:(

Hi girls

Nikki lol. Also had a good laugh at getting married :D
How's Peyton sleeping lately? Getting better at night for you?

Vash shame hun. Is it maybe a growth spurt? Hopefully he will stretch his feeds more soon, cos anything shorter than 3hourly at night is really not nice!
Re the clothes - the newborn stuff we took the tags off the stuff we didnt think we needed to return. Its okay. My SIL will just get a lot of new 'old' clothes. I havent even washed her 0-3 month stuff, so going to have to do that this weekend. Very frustrating cos the newborn stuff getting too small but most of the 0-3 is still miles too big.

Gerne the last month is really tough! You must take it easy, take lots of cool showers, and get as much sleep as you can. Does your boy go to a daycare / creche during the day? I cant imagine having 2 at home during the day!

Yaz thinking of you and the impending work decision. Really hope it doesnt have to be so soon :( I still like the thought of sharing a nanny, but I probably dont need one till January, or until I start working.
I'm thrilled that things are going better for you at night. And you give me hope!
I hear you about places of sleep during the day. K doesnt settle anywhere but in my arms. And even after 30mins sleeping in my arms, if I put her down, guaranteed 10minutes later she'll be awake. makes very difficult for getting anything done at all.

Thanks re the clothes. I bought a few cute skirts and shorts and dresses from pep on the weekend. Nothing more than R25 each.

Man am I exhausted. It started yesterday during the day. K slept most of the morning until about 3pm. Then she was awake and okay. We bathed her at 7ish, and finally got her to fall asleep around 9. Then she woke up at 10 and was awake until 3am, finally falling asleep with her feed. DH took her at around 11 but I got up at 11:30 cos I cant sleep while she's crying. I eventually called him again at 1:30 cos I was having no luck and was sleeping on my feet. So an exhausting night.
Today exactly the opposite to yesterday, has hardly slept at all! Its now 7:30 and she's probably slept 2 hours the entire day. But I really thought that by now she'd go down but she is still wide awake 1,5hrs after her last feed and doesnt seem to want to go to sleep either.
Whats worse is that DH is out at band practice tonight. So I have to do this alone after such a long day :(

I took her to the paed today, after worrying about clicking in her joints (shoulders and hips). I emailed the paed yesterday but they called and said they cant help without seeing it for themselves. So I decided to leave it for our check up in December. So they came back saying to bring her in and they wont charge us, and if we have concerns again to phone in and if doc cant help over the phone to bring her in same as today.

Anyway scoffing down my food cos K is niggly. See you all later.

Oh forgot: Girly, about K's clothes - do you know Baby Things in Ottery? I know it's a bit on the other side of the world, but they have all Woolies and Edgar's baby clothes and sell them at factory prices. Plus they have a 25% sale on at the moment. Maybe worth a drive out? We get most of Lilly's gros and vests there, it's so cheap but good quality.

Hi girls,

Hope you are all well and the night shifts are getting shorter!

Nikki, I had a good giggle about your post the other night, especially when you said: P still prefers to get married LOL

Lilly is not sleeping through every night, she's done it a couple of times, but it's not a regular thing yet. She had a hectic 48 h growth spurt last week (thought it was the heat at first) where she fed hourly and hasn't slept through ever since. She's now veeery hungry in the evenings and mornings. We had one night feed between 3 and 4 for the past couple of days and luckily she went straight back to sleep every time. She wakes up with DH and me in the a.m., which is around 6. She then babbles and smiles for an hour and usually feeds twice (!) within 60 minutes, but then goes back to sleep in her carry cot (yay!!!) for 2-3 hours, which is great for me to get work and chores done. During the day, she usually stays awake for about two hours before she gets niggly. Unfortunately I still can't put her down (wakes up after 5 minutes max), so I let her sleep in the wrap or on me if I also have time for an afternoon nap. It's so weird that she is perfectly fine with sleeping in her bed at night and in the morning, but no chance in hell she'd do it during the day.

I was really doubtful about the "magic" 3 months mark, but ever since last week she hardly ever cries in the evenings and is a very happy baby for most of the time, so there must be some truth to it. She still doesn't like driving though but at least she can be distracted with her play arch for a few minutes now. Also very very enthusiastic about her play gym and bouncy chair now, where she wouldn't be interested at all a few weeks ago!

So, I went to look at the first potential daycare centre yesterday (Loevenstein Educare) and found it REALLY horrible!! It was so chaotic and dirty! There are 15 babies aged between 3 and 18 months (huge age gap for my liking) in the baby class and there's only 1 teacher and 1 assistant!! Don't know if that's the norm, but if it is then I'd rather spend my last penny on affording a nanny instead! I'll be looking at a few more places, but it's really heartbreaking. I bawled my eyes out the entire afternoon yesterday at the thought of having to leave her with someone else! Today is the board meeting where the decision about me going back to the office will be made, please cross fingers for us! I'm really not ready yet at all!! :(

Vash, shame, that's hectic, you really have a hungry little man on your hands there!

Gerne, hope you found some comfort and sleep!

Girly, how's it been going with Ms K? Hope it's getting easier slowly but surely! I'll be in touch later about getting together.

Bronz, Claudia, where are you?

LMAO! Please excuse my nonsensical (is that a word?!) Post last night -the bit towards the end, I ws clearly very tired :-)

@Yaz - I really hope you don't have to go back to work in November :-( how is Ms Lilly and how is she during the day? She is the closest in age to P so I use her as a rough benchmark - don't worry I know you can't compare kids each developes at their own pace, just use as a rough guide. How many hours is she awake during the day and where is she sleeping during the day now? Is she still sleeping through the night? I can't wait for when P starts sleeping through the night, las night she slept from 7h30 to 1h00 but then stayed awake till 3 and up again at 5h30.
Are you enjoying the new place.

@Vash - sorry to hear about Liam's change in sleep pattern, I can imagine how exhausted you must be. Is he not going through a growth spurt?

@Girly - how are you? Are you getting any rest and is K sleeping better? So sad to hear about your friend's friend and her loss. Makes you take stock f your own life and realise just how blessed we are hey? I also haveso many winter clthes for P that she has even worn as yet and most don't have tags, I was silly as I removed them when I packed her drawers.

@Patty - glad you and Una enjoyed the parties. Is DH back?

Have a lovely day mommies!
