Jan/Feb 2011 Mommies (Nov & Dec 2010 early babes)

Hi Everyone,

I'm still around... DH is in Madagascar, with no international roaming thanks to Vodacom, so I am feeling rather lonely. We managed before cell phones, but these days we take so much for granted!

Been at my Mom for 2 nights, although I dont know if it was the best idea. Missy is so out of routine, and sometimes I wonder if its worth it! She has been waking every hour for the last week and at 2am just wont sleep... last night I had to leave her to cry because I was just too tired! It seems so much worse at that time of the morning, and I hate doing that. Mom had promised to come to her, but when I went down the passage, Mom was snoring away... how could I wake her and I was awake anyway. Even if my Mom takes Missy, I still dont sleep. So we are back home tonight and I just have to get some sleep training in, one way or the other!

I finally called the Dr today and he is sending me a script for some meds. I feel so down and terrible that I am not able to be happier. I feel so guilty. From Monday. I am getting all the newborn things out of the cupboard, and starting to sort out. Just have to start somewhere and like the Dr said, it will make me feel better too!

DOnt get me wrong, I cannot wait to have my Baba in my arms, and following Anina's birth, brings so much of the labour and birth back to memory, and I really am excited. This time round, I am nervous for different things! ANd having joined a Moomie forum, I am more knowledgable about so many things!

AFM, I am feeling good. My tummy seems harder and firmer, and baba moves around alot. I thin I am having BH, but with Missy I also wasnt aware of them or didnt know the difference. But it is fun getting them now! I am relieved that Baba is head down, so I just keep talking to the little thing and saying "stay there". I'll be 31 weeks soon and cant believe it!

Chris, Vix and Maryke, hang in there! I often think of how you guys must be feeling, if I am tired after an average day!

Oh yes, yesterday sorted out my mom's back room with some of my inheritted OLD furniture, school and varsity books etc. THe gardener helped me, I didnt lift anything (!), as it was raining and he could not work in the garden all the time. I must say, getting rid of stuff really relieves the soul! SO now just to tackle my own house and baby cupboard! Vix, going to show DH your shelving and organising in the boys cupboard, and see if we can do something similar. I just LOOOOOVVVVEEEE the plastic shops! I am a really sucker for buys things like that!

Meags, thanks for all your tips and the great description of BH. I think I must have had them with Missy and just didnt know it! Now I am more informed and can ENJOY them with Baba!

Lizzy- only 2 weeks? feels like 2 months since we heard from you? Will you be joining us on saturday for the coffee date in Edenvale?

I am a big un believer in the whole baby too big for natural delivery especially when Drs diagnose it before 38/39w!!! any Dr that can start telling you how big your baby will be at birth more than a couple of weeks ahead of schedule is already looking for excuses to do a C-sec and you might aswell book a bed for 4 days in the hospital already in my opinion!

I had a C-sec with my boy, not because he was too big, actually he was bigger than we predicted but his head was stuck above my pelvic cavity. We never even considered a C-sec until the day we booked it 2 days before his birth and that was only because my water had dropped dangerously low and after the birth the placenta was so badly calcified it was breaking away in pieces. My dr actually gave me the option to come visit him every other day and just hope that somehow his head will move down enough but i decided to just book the C-sec at 39w2d.

My C-sec was not bad but that's also because i have never experienced a natural birth. The recovery process is a lot harder and longer and a lot of pro C-sec mommies will even tell you it wasn't sore at all but that's not true. It's major abdominal surgery and you loose a lot of physical control over your stomach muscles. If you think you're having trouble getting up off the floor or out of bed now wait until after a C-sec, you feel useless!

I can't, won't and don't judge any mommy who has a C-sec but the Dr's who start telling you months in advance you'll have to have one i definitely do judge!

In the UK our health care system is a government one (just not as bad as SA's) so they don't have scans every month, they have 3 max in a pregnancy, 12w, 20w and somewhere around 34-36w depending on if they have concerns. After that it's just BP checks and urine checks and things like that. Inductions only take place closer to 42w. I think the more relaxed approach comes from the fact that you don't have and see your own gynae until the birth if you're lucky so he has no reason to push people into choices they don't want because of his schedule or seasonal responsibilities. I promise you small framed British women are birthing big babies every day naturally without ever having had the option of a C-sec unless they hit complications.

I bet the rate of C-secs go up dramatically in this country at this time of year!

Anyways that's my C-sec rant for the day, like i say I'm not opposed to C-sec i think medical interventions are a great thing sometimes i just wish Dr's wouldn't scare people into things they don't want.

ASp- i also feel super heavy at some points during the day, and my tummy goes rock hard that you can't feel a bum, head hand nothing, it's like a concrete ball.

Chan, your daughter looks sooo pretty in her ballet outfit! How wonderful and full does children makes one's life hey! Also dont worry about the weight too much for now. The sonar measurements can be very inaccurate, also the growth can slow down later on. With my son he tended towards a 3.8kg baby at about 32wks but then growth slowed down drastically and he was born 3.2 at birth. And I agree on the head measurement

Aspoestertjie, where do you stay? I can always do a cake / cupcakes for you if you have an idea of what you want. I just cant do those very intricated cakes with the modelled icing fairies.. but I know you can buy them from a shop in Centurion for about R90 and just pop them onto a nice cake.. let me know

Interesting topic - the c-sec for big babies. My LG came out at 4.14kg, and altough it is big, I did not experience it as a "diffucult" birth etc. My did tear a little (or I was cut) but it healed so quickly that I barely noticed it. I never used pain meds from giving birth. The only real pain I ever experienced was when I stopped breatfeeding and my breast was so engorged. I had real terrible contractions, but the actual birth part was really not bad.

I am thinking that my gynae will also be pushing for c-sec, and I will put up a fight. Even move to another gynae is needed. But lets see.

Chan, please do what you are comfortable with. There is still some time to think about it...use this to your advantage.

So, I have been getting these aches and pains, feels as tough baby is too heavy for my tummy! Even went to bed at 20h00 last night and sleep till 04h30! Really can't image what it feels like to carry more than one baby, you girls are really doing great.

Yvette- was wondering where you have been lately hun! Good to hear from you. The actual statistics of uterine scar rupture are something like less than 2% worldwide I think. Don't let be something to put you off trying for a VBAC but as yours is such a small time frame I would suggest you have your VBAC under as much of a controlled situation as possible in hospital just in case. I have a friend who just had her 3rd VBAC at home but she was on baby no6 so pretty experienced about her body's capabilities.

Chan- glad to hear Kade is doing well. My opinion would be to read up and understand about C-sec just in case but if you don't want it then try not to allow yourself to be pressured into it. Almost everyone I know who has had both would do anything to turn back time and not have the C-sec. Who knows anyway, if Kade is so big he may just come earlier than planned and not be the full 3.8 predicted size.

I am so heavy and achy down low today. It seems the less I do the more uncomfortable I feel LOL

hi meags. just quickly, have you ever experienced a uterine rupture with your patients in your entire career? if so, please tell me about it and the time frame that everything happened in.

and, i have kidney infection again and have you experienced a preggie mom go into labour that was the result of a kidney infection?

chan, kade will be fine! don;t be pressured to go for a c-section, i have had a normal birth and c-section and wish i didn;t have the c! have the c if it medically 'indicated' for you.
