Hello everyone

Wow it has been quiet on here! I have also been MIA but it seems Winter has been terrible for everyone, with all the babes being sick. I have been so scared Jordyn was going to get ill especially since we both had the flu and DH got the tummy bug too. But luckily he sailed through SO FAR!

I have been following updates but can't remember to post now.

Jordyn is doing well, really developing a nice personality now. No sign of crawling yet, not even really taking the position but there is still time. He will be 8 months this week. He weighs 8.4kg now, on the light side I think.

It seems he really prefers the rice cereal, is this a problem do you think? MIL thought she was being kind to her grandson by buying rice cereal for weekdays and making me think the one I was waiting for her to complete was capable of lasting months on end!!! So I got a bit mad! So I told her today she needs to stop the rice and try him on the maize I have been wanting her to give him. I give him either maize or wheat on weekends. Also tried the malt purity porridge today, he really doesnt enjoy it... has a couple bites then bites his bottom lip and wont budge. I added some purity apple and he polished the lot!!!!!!! Is it texture or taste? And what can I do. I really want him to taste and try things, try prevent a fussy eater later. I know they also say puree for too long isnt good either.... What are you ladies doing with your LO's? Purity or still cooking and if you cook do you leave it a bit chunky?

Other than this I dont have much to tell, my sister who is also on moomie...is 20 weeks and got rushed to hospital today with a ruptured cervix. Our hearts sank, especially since she had to undergo surgery and is full up on flu. Thankfully God heard our prayers and she, and baby are just fine. I suspect she may not be able to go back to work though. And all this after having PCOS and fertility treatment to fall pregnant with baby number 1....

On the other end of the scale....also found out my brother and his wife are expecting their first baby as well. So I will be an Aunty again. So exciting. She is only 5 weeks now though.

How is everyone doing?

So sorry for being MIA

Kids were sick last week, first it was Kayden the Monday and Riaan the Wednesday.
Had to take her to the dr. She had a realy bad cough and a very bad runny nose (was struggling with her to drink the bottle), got some antibiotics that she had to use for 5 days, this Monday she still had the same bad cough, but i must say she is now much better the last 2 days, hope it stays like this now - hate the winter.
And with Riaan - i got a call from my daycare mom (i got all stressed up) that Riaan is not holding in his food or anything with fever early morning (and it was strange to me that he woke up crying, but with no fever) - by the time i got him to the dr 2hours later he was feeling better - so it was Tonsils - i took the day off and the next cause the tonsils is highly contagious. So i kept both at home Thursday just for the worst to pass and not wanting them to go out in the cold before 7 in the morning. Friday they went back to daycare - little Kayden only had the cough. But as i've said she is starting to look better - so glad. Wasn't nice having to sick children.

I've missed a bit on what's going on here, thanks to Fb i have a slight idea what's going on. Will catch up on you all.

Take care - got to work now - talk soon

Thanks Ster! We put Vicks on his feet and his chest at the moment with the bad cough and nose story. Haven't tried the ears yet. Will give it a try and see how it goes! Thanks for the tip!!

I normally mix Vicks with some Vaseline so it's not so strong for his chest and feet. At this stage i'm willing to try anything & everything!!

Last night he was fast asleep and he just all of a sudden screams out in pain. Ah it's horrible. I can only think it must be his ears because his tummy was full, he was warm and fast asleep. It happened twice last night.

But having said that we had a really good night! Went down at 8 and woke up twice with that painful crying but I hadn't gone to sleep yet so it was fine. Then woke up at 1am. Again at 2:15 then at 5:15 again. Sprayed his nose and he slept in my arms until 6:15am. An amazing night for us!!!

Hi Chan

Sjoe man, that's hectic

Listen - have you tried rubbing Vicks on his ears? I know the "old people" use to believe it and since Inge's ear infection my mom has told me about it again and even the lady at creche. You basically rub Vicks behind the ear and on the little hard piece on the front side of the ear as well as where the opening is (hell, I hope I'm making sense of this). My one friend also believes in this and she has 3 children.

Since my last post last week I'm rubbing Inge's ears with Vicks and she seems to be much better. It apparently relieves the pain and helps as a "inflamatoriese proses". Also rubbing Vicks underneath the feet and then socks - helps with runny noses. I never believed this until I tried it. I know as a child my mom use to put Vicks on cotton wool and that was put in the ear but with babies they say not to put cotton wool in the ear

Also let him sleep in a elevated position - Inge sleeps on a thin "adult" pillow.

It might not change your life but worth a try

The surgeon said the only reason they'd operate on a baby of this age is if the hernia was small and the bowel was inside it like Kades, because then you run the risk of the bowel being strangled.

In Kade's case the hernia is so big that there is no way the bowel could be strangled. The risk of putting him under anesthetic is way greater than fixing the hernia for cosmetic reasons. There is just no way the hernia could be causing him any pain or create colic like symptoms at all. They are totally painless hernia's unless the bowel strangulates.

He said the longer we can wait to fix it the better and safer for Kade. He would suggest 18 months to 2 years if we can wait that long.

So we have to put all the night wakings etc to his ears! We're seeing the ENT specialist on 7 July again to see if the fluid has cleared - if not then he'll have grommets put in immediately.

morning :)

Sorry that i've been MIA... internet has been giving problems! I'll catch up on all that has been going on and do personals a bit later :P

Wian is doing well, he eats like a champ and is all over the floor.. he rolls, jumps on his bum while sitting, anything to be mobile and to get where he wants to be!! I think we are going to have our hands full once he starts crawling. We have had so many funny moments with him and Mik. Its just too precious! She has taken it upon herself to teach him how to crawl... absolutely hilarious! :P

Have a great day!! hope all the sick babas start feeling better soon xxxx

Blessed with a beautiful daughter and an awesome baby boy!

Morning!

The problem I have is Kade won't go to DH at night!!!! Especially if he's sick! But Saturday and last night DH got up and just rocked him and he went back to sleep. So maybe we're onto something here!

Had to take Kade back to pead on Saturday morning! Argh i'm so sick of it now. He said there is so much fluid in his ears its actually ridiculous. Got asthma medication now to help with his chest and cortisone nose spray to try clear it all up. Shame my poor child is a walking chemist.

But the new meds are working at least. We now get through the night until 4am without having to start spraying and aspirating his nose so that's a major improvement.

Last night was an amazing night - asleep at 7:30pm. Woke up 12:45am then drank 210ml in one go and fast asleep! Woke up again at 3am. Drank a bit of bottle then straight back to sleep until 5:45am!!! Woweeeeeee!!!!! :silly: :woohoo: :silly:

Now I could deal with that kind of night easily!!!

We have to see the surgeon this afternoon at 3:15pm about his hernia. I'm so damn nervous. We did the ultrasound on Friday and there is a piece of his bowel pushing through his tummy into the hernia. But I also have no idea what to do because 3 paed's have said don't operate or anything until 1 years old and the 4th paed we saw said it needs an ultrasound and we need a surgeon to look at it. Guess we can only decide today once we've been to the surgeon with the results from the ultrasound.

Chris I have no freaking idea how you cope with 3. I would honestly be dead!! It really takes an amazing mom to cope with that!! Well done!

Chris the problem with fluid behind the eardrum is that it can't drain out. Therefore the snotty nose never ever clears because everything is trapped inside the sinus passages becasue it can't drain out through the ear. So there is no sign of wax or anything because it's all trapped inside. If it gets really bad and the fluid builds up too much it can actually burst their eardrums which is really painful. So the fact that you have so much wax with your little ones is a good sign.

Ster grommets were my saving grace with Kyra. It's amazing how they helped her and she had to have them done 3 times. She had her last set put in when she was 7!

Vix did you find out if they took C's adenoids out? They removed Kyra's when they did tonsils and ENT specialist said they were rotten as hell. Gross!!! That also made a huge difference with the blocked stuffy nose all the time!
