Hi all... Sorry for the long absence, but no internet at home. Back at work today after 3 months maternity leave- half day for a month and then back to full day in the middle of August. Lots of tears this morning leaving my Rebecca!!
So here is my story of the last 3 months... Rebecca was born via C-Section the morning of 11 April 2012 at 37 weeks (3.85kgs, 52cm length, 38cm head)- the procedure itself was no where near as scary as I thought it would be, even the spinal block procedure was painless. I did give the anethetist and gynae a fright though when I tried to sit up when Rebecca was taken out- they didn't get her to me fast enough!! Lol!! Unfortunately things took a scary turn from there, within an hour of being born Rebecca developed Respiratory Distress Syndrome- she had no Surfactant (spelling) lining her lungs. So my baby ended up in NICU within an hour of being born and I didn't get to see her for a full 24 hours- they wouldn't let me into NICU with my drip & catheter etc which only came out the next day. Rebecca spent 7 days in NICU and the hospital (Nu Shifa) and her paed (Dr Mitha) were amazing & brilliant and Becca wouldn’t be here today without them. She has gone from strength to strength from there and is today a healthy 3 month old weighing in at just over 7kg’s already. I exclusively breast fed the first 6 weeks- Becca latched like a champ once her feeding tube was removed on day 6 and we are now doing a combination of bottle and breast. She is a very calm, easy baby and sleeps well, averaging about 6 hours a night at the moment. Being in the NICU for 7 days got her into a 4 hour routine from the word go which has just carried through to life at home, so that was a blessing in disguise.
I hope everyone else is doing well with their babies and hopefully we can all get back to chatting soon!
