Hello Ladies!
Sjoe, Mia has been keeping me so busy, though I've been making more work for myself expressing (see below).
@BabyT, can't wait to see little Karmi! Hope all went well and you make a quick recovery <3
@CarienM, from where Mia 'dropped' everything about me was huge. I looked and felt like to Michilan Man

You're almost there! Swim if you can?
@Meijermom, shame I didn't make it as far as you weeks-wise, but by the end I was ready to meet her no matter how it happened - like one of those internet memes - 'Get it out! Get it out! Get it out!' Take it easy
@JLK, your baby boy is so cute! And big!! That's a nice healthy weight
Must admit I feel like I've fallen off the planet the past 2 weeks. The baby blues have hit me really hard.
It's taken quite some time to come to terms with a pretty bad hospital experience. The birth didn't go quite as planned and though I had mentally prepared myself for that, my second worst nightmare had come true in tearing so badly (first being that I would need a cesar). I'm really not a sucker for pain and with a low pain threshold and not being able to take antantiinflammatories and antibiotics due to a gut disease, my recovery was VERY painful. It was fairly quick though compared to a cesar, for which I am very thankful. I was able to drive from day 11, though I feel unsafe due to sleep deprivation. The whole hospital experience after her birth was the worst, with the nursing staff being pretty unsupportive and downright rude on occasion when hubby asked a question or two re the care we were receiving (or lack thereof). The whole experience was very traumatic for him too.
When trying to chat to a friend or two about it, their response was 'my baby was in NICU for so and so long, at least you got to take your home' or 'my cesar recovery was so long' and that I should just get over it as it's past. This sort of attitude really hasn't helped. What good does it do to dismiss someone else's traumatic experience just because you feel it was less traumatic than your own?
We've had an absolute struggle with Mia. She just doesn't wake for feeds, or anything for that matter. Everyone keeps telling me I'm so lucky, my baby sleeps all day and doesn't cry. She wakes at night though, cries all the time and cluster feeds, so I end up not sleeping at night, and not sleeping during the day cause it's too hot and I've got the whole expressing and sterilising mission going. I ended up expressing and giving her a bottle in-between trying to get her to latch and stay awake, just to get something down - forcing a bottle vs a squishy or hard and sore boob is way easier.
The situation has left me really sore and engorged a few times now and my breasts haven't gotten used to the letdown reflex yet - the initial minute or so still hurts like hell!
Took her to the pediatrician this morning and finally someone told me I'm not crazy. She was weighed and found to weigh just under her birth weight (2.9kg) from 2 weeks ago

She's a really long baby, so the doc was concerned that she weighs so little. I was told to be a bit more 'rough' with her and to wake her every 3 hours for a feed. I'm grateful that the doc agrees not to use formula at this point - my supply is good at least, I just need my baby to actually drink it! I keep a cold wet cloth handy to wipe her, and do a nappy changed/take her clothes off to get her properly awake. This seems to have helped since this morning and we've managed to get 3 proper feeds down, so here's hoping for a better night's sleep!
I'll be honest, I've been stressing about her so much that I've hardly enjoyed her and wished I could put her back - she was a lot easier to care for in utero.
Sorry for the essay again! Feel the need to write this stuff down. Sad to realise that we honestly have no support system close to home. Both our parents stay too far away to help out on a day to day basis if needed, and we've felt a bit alone in this scary new life. Forcing myself to sleep more and will hopefully settle down soon.
