@ sonsbaby, how far along are you?
It would take more effort on my side to wake hubby up, then to get out of bed! I can play heavy metal music and he wouldnt hear!
@blousonneblom, i dont no if I have a high threshhold for pain as such, i think im just not squeamish about hospital and birth, etc. I wouldnt say the birth was painful, rather it was intense, but bearable. They did not believe I was ready to push when I got to the labour ward. Once they checked between my legs though, there was no doubt.
Birth without meds has ALOT to do wih your mindset, and the preparing yourself for it. We are so bombarded by labour being painful, that we expect to be. Please please google hypnobirhing birh video (dont ever watch a non-hypnobirth video!)
The time in labour should be about the bond with your child, it needs to be in a relaxing environment, where you can be calm, and focused on the experience. my water broke at about 3am, and i spent about the next 3 hours by myself. Changing positions when I felt the need, but just finding in my "zone". i did not want to be disturbed or spoken to, etc.
When I first heard of hypnobirth (and told hubby about it) we both thought it might just be something gimicky, and hypnosis to me was associated with one of those weird performers trying to get you to do things without you knowing. but its self-hypnosis, you are changing your mindset and making it a reality.
@sonsbaby perhaps look at getting the book, and the CD for meditation.
Regarding maternity leave, probably 2 weeks before my due date, so end April. I dont want to leave too early as I know I will get bored, but not even get stuff that needs to be done sorted.
I had a dream last night about the baby being born! it was quite bizarre as she was huge and born earlier than expected.
