Your poor DH I would be so upset! I dont get people who mess you around. Why can they not just keep up their side? If I were him i'd involve the dealer principle. I really hope he gets his car soon!

Wow, renovations are not for the faint-hearted My parents converted their house into a B&B - what was supposed to take 6 months turned into 18 months and almost killed them both! But they survived and the end product is absolutely beautiful and now they've started to get a steady run of guests so it is all worth it in the end.
DH and I renovated our flat when we bought it 4 years ago and it was also extremely stressful - and that was just a flat. It will be a while before we do something like that again. We are renting a house at the moment (and renting out our flat) but we would love to buy our own house one day...

So the good news is it looks like they are going to fix my car! Thank God! I was so surprised because I had basically set myself up to think that they would scrap it.
But now the bakkie that DH has his heart set on is not available at the moment, wierdly the seller is dragging his feet and Nissan is struggling to get all the paperwork from him. So my poor man thought he was going to get his new car today but now we don't know if and when he can take delivery. Its strange because we were told that the buyer was desperate to sell it because of financial troubles. I guess it was just a story though. You know what they say about 2nd hand car dealerships hehe. Sorry if anyone is or is married to a car salesman!!

I have tons of work and not much time to do it so better get back. But have to tell you I went to a fashion show last night with my best friend and there was champagne and canapes and we had so much fun! Not so fun this morning with my teething baby waking me at 4h45 but still was a huge jol

replumb! Well we are looking at something similar... we got a new tap for the bath in our bathroom because the one there was atrocious... so we go to take it off the wall and find that the previous owners had not screwed it in, but had used glue!!! I mean really,,, glue a tap to the pipe?and to boot they had used the wrong pipes! Argh... so it became a situation of fix the pipes and re-tile the bathroom, which we cant really afford just yet... or make a temporary plan to attach the new tap until we can afford to re-tile

Sher, I think it definitely was. We looked at a lot of areas, weighed the pros and cons for leaving North Riding (We've been here for over 5 years already). Looked at what we could buy for what we could afford etc.

I was sold when I saw it had an attic. I always wanted an attic and a double story It's kind of my childhood dream It's a big A frame and it's brick so no issues with plaster and damp I like getting a fixer upper because you get to customise the house to your likes and it's not wasting money by ripping up "new" stuff etc. I have lived through rennovations most of my life because of my dad so I really know what I am in for...

Kerry, I hear you my dad decided to retile our 1 bathroom once. what should have been a small job ended with the house having to be replummed! Building is always slower and more expensive than you initially anticipate.

cols, you live in North riding ... but was it worth the price you bought it for, eg, has huge potential for later on ?

I like to do DIY myself, but not with a baby...Dh is gonna need help. i cant always lend a hand

pool, like i said too, that can be built later on.... you can get one for R70 000...

Sher, no not yet.. My dad is a builder so he will be one of my options. As much as he is good, I hate mixing family with business.

Ya, we have a lot of work to do but the end result will be AWESOME. We bought something we could live in and work on as we go. So it's not a tip, just very dated and the garden is a mess. There is way too much paving in the front

DH is also super handy so that's cool for DIY.

I have an excellent contact for light fittings and blinds. Both outstanding prices and excellent service.

We also want to put in a pool. It'll look awesome when we get it all together.

yip, thats why we need to see more houses. cause i dont know if we have that much time to spend on DIY... i can understand kitchen and bath is a must...others things ? dont know

just it has so much potential but also leaves us a with a huge gap, to go AWOL on ideas and spending on renovations, on what we want. the thing is as i have said, we have expensive taste but we DONT have the money to have what we want - ha ha

we will see. we buying first time, so not easy, trying to weigh costs and then K costs for her things and school. dont want to over budget...

lets see. rome was not built in a day, things can be built and renovated in years
