Hey ladies.

Dummy thing works for me - Emily loves her dummy and it soothes her to sleep. She is on tommee tippee. However, she was also very unsettled during the day early last week and I could not put her down. I was pulling my hair out so we went to buy her a baby swing and voila!!! - she loves her swing and after a nappy change, feed and burp, I just pop her into her swing and she falls asleep. When I can tell that she is in a deep sleep, I take her out and lay her down - works like a dream!!!! We never got the very expensive one - I bought the portable bright starts one (R999) and it works out perfectly because I can fold it up, put it in the car and take it out with me - we spent the day at my moms place on Saturday and I could take the swing with which is great - can't do that with the bulky ones :)

JudesMom - sorry that your baby had to go through that :( but at least you got it sorted - hope she is doing ok.

Mommy2J - My sister is also still rocking her 11.5KG baby to sleep!!! So, I am definitely not going down that route either.

Emily is in a lovely routine last 5 days or so and please don't hate me ladies, but she sleeps through the night :P Has her last bottle at 9:30 and then sleeps until DH gets up for work at 5ish. Then, I feed her and she goes right back to sleep until about 8:30/9:00ish.Been like this for about 1 week now.

This is our routine:

9:00AM - Breastfeed
9:30AM- Out of bed/get ready for bath
10:00AM - Bath time
10:30 - Bottle feed and cuddle time
11:00 - Pop her into her swing and she plays for a bit and then doses off while mom has a shower (this nap I leave her in her swing)
12:30 - wakes up and plays with mom for a bit
1:30 - bottle feed
2:00 - Go for a walk if it is a nice day (falls asleep on the walk), if not good weather, I go and lay down on my bed with her and she falls asleep holding mommy's finger and sucking her dummy.
5:00/5:30 - wakes up and daddy gets home from work
5:00/5:30 - bottle feed and cuddles
6:00 - plays in her swing while we have dinner
7:00 - Breastfeed then play with daddy for a bit
7:30/8:00 - bath and massage time
8:30 - doses off in swing after bath
9:30 - wake her to give last bottle feed
10:00 - either falls asleep in swing or on daddy's lap in her rocking chair
10:00/10:30PM - put her in her cot with her mobile music on
5:00AM - wakes up and daddy fetches her and brings her to mommy in bed - I give her a bottle, burp her and then put her in bed with me and we sleep until about 8:30/9:00 and then it all starts again.

Works for me and I am hoping it stays this way - at this rate, I am ready for number 2 :)

hi mommy2j. Sorry about your vomiting ordeal. I read in baby sense i think that overeating can cause discomfort. I guess with a bottle you have more control over the volume though. Ive heard that if they still appear hungry but have eaten then boiled cooled water can fill them up. But you right she was probably just looking for comfort. The other thing it could be is reflux where the food isn't all going down and if not winded properly they bring it back up. The reason i have so much to say is cos we struggle with the same thing. Baby sense also says to keep them upright for at least 20 mins after a feed so the food can settle. Kaylee is very unsettled the last few days. Last night she woke at 4, again at 6 and again at 8 and has pretty much been awake since. If i got 5hrs sleep all together its a lot. During the day she doesnt let me put her down unless she is fast asleep and then its only 30mins and she will wake for her next feed, so sleeping during the day is impossible. Feeling rather exhausted now but have to get ready to go down to the clinic to have her weighed. Gonna be a long day.

Hi everyone

Seems nobody getting the dummy thing right, its frustrating cos with my first born she loved the dummy and it would sooth her and comfort her till she fell asleep now that Sienna wont take a dummy the only way to settle her is to pick her up and that is getting difficult to do. My sister usd to rock her son to sleep when he was a baby and eventually he wouldnt fall asleep any other way and he was 15months old still being rocked to sleep so i dont want to go down that road but its iether picking her up or screaming.

I have tried nuk, pigion and now avent dummies and she is not intrested.

She is also very prone to vommiting and if i fidgit with her like bath or change her after a feed she vomits up the whole feed! Last night she was so unsettled after her bottle 125ml she drank and dh said sh is still hungry i told him she just wants to be held but her was addament as she was sucking her thumb that she was hungry so i made ger a bottle she drank 10ml and began progectile vommitting all over me who had just had a shower and my bed

so i changed her and cleaned up and she fell asleep so i dont knw if she just over ate and was uncomfortable....battling with winds to.... I wish there was a manual she couldnt be more different then my first born and i am learning everyday still ha ha

well one of these days we posting that our lil ones are sleeping through.....well i hope so atleast ;)

Hey Mommies,

Sorry ive been so quiet but going through alot lately. We took Scarlett to the clinic last Monday to have her weighed, she picked up nicely and now weighs 3.8kgs. I aske dthe clinic nurse to check this lump below her tummy area and she thought it was a hernia and that we would need to take her to the pedi soon too have it checked. We took her too dr Kerner who confirmed that it was an inginual hernia and would need to be removed soon.

We took her into Dr Sidler at blouberg on Thursday who did the op,the worse thing is i could only give her the last feed at 3am, so from 5am to 8am i had a hungry screaming baby and could do nithing to console her. He advised that we should also do the other side as she stands a chance of getting a hernia on the opp side in future. The op went well and she was out in an hour. They discharged us the same day and i can only give her panardo every 6 hours.

On Saturday at 9pm she started crying no stop and at 12 we took her through to milnerton medi clinic emergancy section. They checked her and said that she must be in pain as there was nothing else they could pick up. The gave her some drops and a sapository (sp) for the pain which really worked.

They also gave some medicine that i can give her every 6hours, which i think is working.

Other than that she loves the arm and everytime we lay her down she wakes up and cries, not sure what im going to do but need to get her onto the dummy, got the nuk dummy but she still doesnt take it. Any suggestions?

She drinks really well and aslo breaks winds after she drinks so not sure why she wont settle.

Anyways hope everyone is doing well and coping

kerry i am gonna try honey dummie. Apparently its more natural. But after that no more. I was meant to have kaylee weighed today but the sister already left. So will have to go tomorrow. We are also getting our new bed tomorrow. Nothing fancy, but its a queen and its new. Our bed is over 20 years old. Will catch up properly later.

Hi moomies

Chanenay....Emily is gorgeous :) she seems so tall compared to my lil one and all the gorgeous dark hair...to cute!

Kerry congrads on the weight gain....breast is best!! Im jelous i had to give it up after 2 weeks as Dr put me on meds that i couldnt breast feed on and it was a tough choice but in the end i had to be healthy to take care of my kids so its bottles and formula and sterilising and and and....so much easier to just pop a boob in!

About the gripe water ive put it in the teat and she usually drinks it up...seems as though she enjoys it but tonight however she chokied on it and ended up vommiting up her feed that i just spent 40 minutes giving her.

Now she is so unsetteled, screaming every 30 minutes

I bought avent dummies today and she is taking to them nicely....i now have tried pigion and nuk so this is my last attent then im giving up on the dummies. My first baby is a dummy baby and i suppose im just determined to get her on a dummy but they all different and she doesnt seem keen :S

Thats m for the night she is screaming again and DH trying to work....

have a lovely evening :)
