Hello ladies
Hope everyone is enjoying motherhood as much as I am.
It's really tough some days but I still love the joy it brings.
I think Kaylee has started smiling. Last night daddy got what we think is a smile when he got home from work, and this morning I got half a one. She was awake and calm, and it didnt seem like wind. She is 5 weeks tomorrow!
We had a heck of a night last night. Kaylee threw up her 6pm feed because mommy didnt burp her quickly enough - left her to chill on my lap after her feed. It all came out all over mommy and the couch. So she was still hungry, and I had to give her the other boob. So come the next feed, I had no milk for her! I gave what I could, and she pulled and sucked like crazy. Eventually I took out some frozen expressed milk and gave that to her, but only about 40mls (thinking she'd gotten at least 20 or 30 from my breast) but 30mins later she was screaming again. Tried boiled cooled water to fill her for an hour but even by then my milk wasnt up to scratch cos I usually feed one breast per feed, and 3 hourly so takes 6hours for them to properly replenish. My poor girl!
So at 10:30 I defrosted yet more milk knowing she was gonna be hungry again soon, and she had about 20mls and fell fast asleep. I was expecting her to wake up often cos of the small amount of food, but instead she surprised me and only woke up at 4am thats 5hours! So next time was expecting another quick wake up, cos usually after her 4 or 5am wake up she either takes very long to go back to sleep or she wakes up fairly soon after a feed, but nope, she slept till 9!
Then today I got poo'd on! I changed her clothes before her 3pm feed, and she was screaming so I decided to feed in just her vest, and put the grow on after. After her feed she poo'd so big I got it on my hands! Lol, what a day!
She is very sleepy today though, so I'm hoping she's okay.
I will keep an eye on it, and take her to paed if need be, but in 2 minds cos we have our 6 week next Thursday anyway.
So that's my news!
I dont expect hubby to help at night cos he has to work the next day, and only gets up at 7:30. But he helps when he comes home at night so that I can cook and rest a bit.
What I did found re the dummies - last night i had to give her a bottle for the expressed milk - also NUK. And once she'd figured out the sucking on the bottle (after a lot of crying!) she suddenly also figured out the dummy. Doesnt keep it in long, and I have to keep my finger there to keep it in, but a vast improvement from the previous attempts.
Only thing is I dont find it helps much with soothing her like I hoped it would so dont use it often.
Im trying to convince myself to buy a swing for her, but they are pricey. Ive heard so many people talk about how they work so nicely to help get baby to sleep, and I can always sell it 2nd hand and get some cash back. Anyone else?
Charnenay where did you buy yours and what did you pay?
Found a store in Kenilworth (2nd hand?) selling one for R650. Just to get there...
