Testing my new ticker and profile pic out. Hope it works.

M2J sounds like you know what youre doing. Looking forward to your advice.

I find the time between feeds is very short - cos they are awak a good 40minutes before falling asleep and only leaves 1,5hrs if lucky between feeds.
Kaylee does really well with feeds, but sometimes she's on her own thing.
Re night time - I'm still one of those who probably pick her up too easily but she's had bad winds and cries if I put her down.
But will try the changing position / dummy thing and see if it helps.

Re dummies - she also spits it out after 2 seconds. Dont know if its too big for her mouth or what but she does not like dummies.
How else do I give her gripe water?
So I got a tommy tippee 0-3 month one now from reggies instead of the 0-6 months, it seemed smaller but heck if I know. Will try it out later.

Judesmom thinking of you. How did last night go?

M2J sucks about the stuck at home thing. Cant you try get a pharmacy to deliver? Get some ponados with it :)

BTW are there any foods you guys are staying away from?
I still havent had any alcohol or sushi - my 2 vices.
But I'm addicted to chocolate and there is always chocolate here.
So trying my best to stay away but its not easy.
I didnt have any yesterday but did have chocolate cake :D
Not sure if its causing the wind so trying to stay away.
Also seem to have a lot of milk in my diet, so trying to cut it out except coffee. But breakfast choices are cereal / yoghurt or toast, and I'm not keen on bread for breakfast and lunch.

Anyway, gonna use this time to mix up some more jungle juice and cut my nails - keep getting them caught on her gentle skin.

Hi
How are all the moms doing this week?

Judes mom, its tough when the night and days are mixed....i find that sienna hardly settles down at all during the day and will sleep like 2 full hours in the day and makes it hard to ge anything done but by 7pm she is asleep and only wakes to feed at 10pm then 2.30am and again between 6.30-7.30am so i get my sleep at night dont know how this routine fell into place but its ben like this for 2 weeks now so im hoping it will stick!

The house is noisy during the day and i dont put her in a quiet space she is around me and jessica all day and night she is in her room and its dars and quiet so maby that helped....also in the beginning when she cried in her cot and i had already fed her and burbed and changed nappy all i would do was go into the rrom and put dummy in her mouth ( she spits it out after 2 seconds) and give her a rub on her back to let her know im there but i wouldnt pick her up. If she screams again i go in and change her position in the cot rub her back and go out not at all picking her up so she can leaarn her tummy is full, her bum is dry and the room is quiet and dark and im not picking her up so the best thing to Do is sleep.

There were some nights she did scream so bad i wasnt sure what was wong id pick her up and give her a cuddle and put her straight back and she picked up quickly on what to do and now she sleeping all night I read an article about keeping it bussiness like at night and bathing, feeding and bed keep the rest for the day...the happy song toys an and swings ect...it helped me.

Some people cant handle to hear there babies cry so the comfort them everytime they make a sound and then routines are hard to get in to, but this is our second baby and we knw a little crying little crying wont hurt and the sooner the better.

I hope you come right cos you must be exhausted with the one awke in the day the other at night.

:woohoo:

Its much harder keeping up with 2

Girly- sorry to hear about the nappy thrush, shame you and your lil one been thru enough and now that to..
considering her weight is good..the sister at the baby clinic told me that they expect them to be back at there birth weight by day 14 which is where she more or less is.

If she latching so well by next week she should start putting on weight, but i know we never stop worrying.

Ladies have a great weekend and chat soon hope everyine gets rest, DH works saturday and sunday so im all alone the wekend and have run out of maternity pads and cant get to the shop as my sister in law has jessicas car chair so im pretty much stuck at home....the joys its hard not to feel sorry for yourself when getting out the house is such a mission. but hey ill survive!
chat soon

Hi Judes mom.
Sorry about the night & day mix with Scarlett :S
Have you tried keeping things dark and quiet at night and busy and normal during the day?
The sister should be able to help - apparently they also fall into routine quite quickly so maybe try wake her up during the day 3hourly and that way at night she will sleep longer? It should only take a day or 2 - if you can get it right to wake her - cos thats my biggest struggle.

Re breasts have you tried cabbage leaves and letting hot water run on them in the shower?
Kaylee feeds between 5-15 minutes per feed on average, sometimes 20 but not often.
The breastfeeding consultant said 5 minutes of continuous sucking is as good as 20 of on / off sucking.

We were feeling so out of sorts last week that on Sunday we had the consultant come to our house to give us advice - R250 later but worth the assurances.

Kaylee has nappy thrush, so yet another thing to give her. Got some medspore (?) this pm so started applying it. Says to do so for 2 weeks even if it clears up.

She has had bad winds today and cried a lot I couldnt put her down, so its been an especially long day for us.
I am trying to give her gripe water but I think the dummy is too big for her mouth so I must try find a premi dummy for her tomorrow. Not sure how else to administer the gripe water. Suggestions?

So we had her weighed today, and according to clinic's scale only weighs 2.8 which was her birth weight. A bit disheartening as I really thought she'd weigh more. But she did lose a week of eating (only drip with glucose and vitamins for 5,5days) plus different scales. So we have to go back on Monday for another weigh in and see if she's picking up weight properly.
She has grown 2.5cm longer. Apparently they grow 1cm per week atm.

I'm feeling rather shattered today from all the above. She's been on the boob often tonight, so hoping she'll have a long nap now. I'm gonna go lie down for a bit. Got hubby burping her now, and he can watch her while he watches tv.

Hope everyone else hanging in there.
Catch some of you on FB in the wee hours again :)

Hey Moms, well i feel like a zombie! Cant get Scarlett into a routine no matter how hard i try. She sleeps very well through the day up to 3-4 hours and then feeds an back to sleep, but the evil shift starts at around 11 where she is up every 1-2hrs she has a few sucks and then drifts off to sleep only to wake up an hour later. The nights are my ever end!

Going to take her to be weighed on Monday and will have a chat to the clinic nurse maybe she has some advise for me.

Tried keeping her up during the day but no luck, plus my breasts fill up after feeds and the become sore, my nipples are also sore and only hurts when she latches on but then she feeds well after that but only for 5 minutes or so.

Anyways hope you moms have some advise feel really silly cos she is my second child.

Hello ladies

Glad to hear everyone is doing well.

Seems a lot of you are on expressed / formula feeds.
How is the feeding going? Seems with formula milk the feed frequency isnt as often but you give them more milk at a time.

I'm currently breastfeeding and it's no walk in the park, my nipples are taking strain but seems to get better. But I have to make sure she latches exactly right or its excruciating and I have to pull her off.
Also no way of knowing how much food they're getting in. So I'm seeing a breastfeeding consultant and go for weigh ins with her weekly (starting tomorrow finally) as our girl was only weighing 2.9kgs at 2 weeks. She is 3 weeks tomorrow! Weighed 2.83 at birth, and 2.68 at discharge day 4.
She came to our house on Sunday to give some pointers, and made me feel a lot more at ease, but today have had a tough feeding day as our little girl likes to sleep a lot, and went 4,5 hrs without food.
Although yesterday she was eating every 2-3 hrs so maybe she wasnt that hungry - still very stressful though.

Robyn have you tried nipple shields? Maybe her mouth size and your nipple size dont match up?
Or maybe contact a breastfeeding clinic for latching techniques.
But I know how you feel. Some days she just doesnt latch nicely, most often when she's desperate for boob her mouth opens and closes more often and smaller and tough to get a good latch.
I think a lot of it is down to patience.

Charnenay still cant believe you got her in her own room! She's such a big girl already! Loved the pics on fbook :) Time is just flying!
Kaylee will be in our room for a few more months at least. But her room is way too cold at night, plus its in the front of the house and quite far from our room. Not comfortable with that yet.

Anyway, battery about to die on laptop.
Chat soon xx

Jude's mom - Shame man that must be taking it's toll on you... little Kaelyn only feeds every 4 hours at night i think i must be the luckiest mum on earth! and yet i still battle to get up when she cries.

RobynC - Kaelyn's the same feeds every 3-4 hours... but she sleeps through and i havent yet had winds either... you feed her sit her up and it all comes out and then its off to sleep - today though she's being a mommy's girl i cant seem to put her down... daddy even tried to hold her and she just cried - soon as shes in my arms shes gone.... As for bath time she doesn't love it,,, but only performs when you put her in and take her out... she's quiet while you bath her.

Charnenay - yeah i have to second you on the angel care monitor... kaelyn has slept in her own room since the day after she came home, it's a blessing! I hope she keeps it up! But the newborn clothes are still big... she was born at 3kg and is only a week old though... so probably have a little time to go. :-)

:-) anyhow... glad everythings going well for everyone... :-)

Congrads charnenay on the good baby, sounds like you doing a great job, the best advice i got with my first born was to feed them and even if they awake put them down again and put on the mobile but dont rock them to sleep i tell you my eldest daughter was a breeze as a baby, after 2 months she slept through and i never had a sleepless night with her it was because i didnt sis her to sleep i put on the mobile and the GOD SENT ANGEL CARE MONITOR and she would lie there and look at her hands and dose off.....everyone said i was blessed with such an easy baby but to an extent i had my routine and she adapted.

Your routine sounds very similar to mine now except im only on formula 100ml every 4-6 hours and also i dont get any sleep during the day as my 2.5 year old is at home with me to and she doesnt appreciate afternoon naps like i do! lol

But i am doing everything the same with sienna that i did with jess, bath time is bath time regardless of anything as after her bath she knows she gets a bottle and lies with me a bit and goes to her cot, and babies need routine. trust me once they see being niggly gets them out the cot and on daddys chest they going to try it every night so i make sure we give her lots of cuddles and hugs during the day and night time is for sleep!

I have to say i am not strict with jessica anymore and she now runs riote in the house.....i have to nip it in the bud but i am so damn tired and just give her her way to keep the peace but its wrong and now i am paying the price i am no longer in control of this little terror lol! when i only had to focus on her the rules were the rules but now we are also over compensating as we feel a level of guilt as she is no longer the baby and gets 100% of our attention so we let her get away with everything now its to the point where im loke how did this happen...where did it become ok for her to behave like this.....o boy i have my hands full!

Glad all the mommies are doing well
hope you all get some sleep tonight
:woohoo:
