PS
I hope I'm not in for a night wakeful session... Lia only had one very wakeful session today (and it was very early) and she usually has two longish sessions... I am really hoping she is just sleeping a lot because of recovering from her cold or a growth spurt... because I have a serious headache and can't picture an all nighter tonight lol.

Headache be gone!!! Grrrr.

My little girl is busting out of her newborn clothes... I can't believe it.. she isn't even a month old and she only weighed 2.82kg's at birth...

A quick pop in guys because I just know I've only got a few minutes before a child wakes up!!!

Nicky, so sorry you are feeling so down. Honestly, with my first I was pretty down for the first few months... as much as I loved him I was physically and emotionally drained. I'd say it is pretty normal, but chat to your gyn at your 6 week checkup.

It DOES get easier.. I think the first time around with my son the first 8 weeks for me were one big blur. I was crying for everything, and just totally exhausted and moody. Then it started getting better. This time around (baby 2) I only had the blues a few days and I sort of knew what to expect (which isn't really much... expect nothing because if you think baby will do x, or y and it doesn't, it is stressful).

Lately I've been having my bath at about 8am with my toddler in the bath (so he doesn't get up to mischief) and with Lia lying on her playmat if she has just woken up because it buys me about 10 minutes lol. I also put it in my mind that I could have to jump out at any time and that way if it does happen that baby screams or something comes up, I'm not too frustrated by it. You could also try baby in the pram (as suggested), bouncy seat/swing if you have one, or something like that. I must say though.. I use to LOVE my long baths and now I don't have them... on the odd occasion I'll get one while hubby is around but then you lose out on "hubby and me time". As the kiddies get bigger though and more into a routine it does get easier.. this newborn stage is hectic.

With regards to routine.. I think from 8ish weeks my son started having patterns emerge by himself... by 3 months they were pretty clear and I was getting more sleep... bear in mind that at 4 months it all went for a ball of poop and went straight out the window. Babies are so unpredictable! lol

What I try to do is whenever I have a minute free - I quickly squeeze in any chores or things I really need to get done for the day.. even if it means chopping dinner veggies in the morning, lol. That way I get the chores/ must do things out the way and anything past that is "spare time" if I'm lucky enough to get some that day.

Guys, when your babies are up for so long at night - did they sleep a lot during the day? Maybe they have their days and nights swapped around?? My son did that... exhausting. Seems for now Lia at least knows that night time is for sleeping (for now, it could all change as she was swapping them around before).

Des, try feeding Connor a bit more - some babies are just hungrier. If you find that he gags etc on more and keeps sucking, perhaps he is just sucking for comfort due to wind - I know when my kids get windy as babies.. the first thing they want to do is SUCK for relief. THen I see with Lia, presuming she is hungry how she tries to "comfort suck" on me and gets almost annoyed when the milk comes out. So frustrating because neither of my kids were dummy babies. :-S

Oh word, sorry if that is all mixed up.. trying to type in a hurry and am overtired too.

Take care and chat soon guys!

Hi Everyone ,

Zulu , at 6 weeks they give the following injections :

Polio -2 drops into the mouth
DTP & HIB injection (protect against Diphtheria , Tetanus , Whooping cough , Hib disease

Hepititis B

All these can have the following side effects (Pain, swelling , fever, irritability and crying)

I got this of Liebe's card that the hospital gave me.

Des ,hehe I have a lot of pajama days. I take a bath late at night and then will be in my pajamas the next day as I sleep late everyday until about 10-11 to catch up on sleep lost during the night. I try and get dressed round about 5 in the afternoon so that I can at least look like something when hubby comes home.I don't have a routine at all , it changes daily and I'm stressing because when will we get a routine? The only thing that happens the same time everyday is bath time.

Liebe refused to go to bed last night , 12:30 she decided that she will go to sleep only waking up at 03:45 and refusing to sleep again until 6:00. I don't know why she is awake for such long periods. I try everything and nothing seems to work , she was crying all the time until 12:30. I cried so much , I guess all this motherhood stuff is making me very emotional. I have never in my life felt so sad , it just feels like everything is becoming a little bit too much for me , firstly Lieb doesn't want to sleep , when I feed her she wants more , I don't have time to dress myself nice anymore ,my milk has dried up after trying everything ,I miss my hubby , I'm tired and miss people around me the list just goes on I am a strong person with strong opinions but have never doubted myself this much and felt so insecure.I'm just so emotional , is this normal at this stage , does thing get too much for you as well.

Well I hope you ladies have a great day , I'm just gonna try and relax , I think me feeling so emotional rubs off on Liebe and that makes me feel bad as well. The first 6 weeks is really really hard I must say.

So, yesterday was such a good day - Connor slep after his feeds and I had a totally relaxed day! Bath time was good and he fell off to sleep soon afterwards! Then came daddys turn to feed him at the 11:00pm night feed - OH DEAR!! Connor finished all his milk in the bottle and hubby says he was still rooting around for more - he was unsettled and refused to sleep - hubby came to fetch me at about 12:30, and I sent him off to bed, he looked like a zombie, lol, and I spent the next 40mins trying to get Connor to sleep, which he then slept for an hour and woke up for his next feed, which he finished an settled into sleep a little easier than with hubby - but he was such a noisy little sleeper, moaned and groaned the whole night, not crampy - just noisy, he he - needless to say I was very tired from hardly sleeping a wink!

Today - he is also not sleeping well, had his feeds, but still seemed to want more after finishing the bottle - I have him on S26 Gold, and he is on 125ml water with 5 scoops powder - according to the schedule, I am feeding him enough - but I'm beginning to think he wants more....hmmmm - what do I do?

Then, as for the routine, does a 1 month old have a routine yet or is it still pretty random? I've hardly had time to shower today - how do you ladies manage? I feel a bit clueless today, how do you ladies manage your babys schedule and your own? Ie. How/when do you shower and dress if your baby doesn't nap?

Lol - I sound a it looney hey? Sleep deprivation!!

My beautiful baby boy, Connor Troy, was born on 20 March 2010 and my 2nd gorgeous boy, Cullen Reece, was born on 2 September 2011 - I am very blessed indeed

Thanks Marijke , I think I should book the appointment for early in the day so that if she doesn't take it well at least I will be wide awake to take care of her.

Nicky, all injections they get now are in the upper thigh, both legs or just one leg, depends how many injections they give.

Side effects, that depends, you could have a very niggly baby, perhaps some fever but it differs from baby to baby, some fly through it, others give mommy a tough ride the rest of the day or the next - good luck!
