Newborn and baby advice

Hope you all are doing well!

We are on our way back from jeffreys bay, sleeping in springfontein tonight... Karla has been very difficult at night!! Sh has not been sleeping well at all, doesn't feel like holiday!

Karla is 5 months on tuesday, me and hubby decided to maybe start her on rice cereal next week... We'll see how it goes, who else is starting with solids?

Des Des, how is your little one? Is she still crying and clutching the ear? If it is an ear infection I think she'll probably have some oozing coming from the ear and also a fever. But maybe you should phone the paed just in case?

Beansmom, Tayla is gorgeous! I'm sure our little ones are gearing up to start teething now - they're all around five-months-old already. Crazy. You're very dedicated to express. Emily also doesn't really breastfeed during the day, just sort of snacks and laughs and looks around - and then goes hell bound for Texas when the bottle comes. The woman at the baby clinic said she's probably weaning herself off me (not that she was ever on me).

Glad you found a nanny. She sounds divine and can teach Tayla French on the side. Keep us posted on how she does. I must say that on the days when my nanny doesn't come I hate it. She's so organised.

I was just thinking about the tugging at the ear. Emily's started doing this weird side headbanging act. Maybe it's all teeth related?

Hi ladies,

LK cried a lot last night clutching her left ear. I think she has an ear infection. What can I use?

Morning Ladies...

So our little madam has been a little miserable for the last 2 days and waking up every hour or so from midnight onwards... not great for mom who feels totally buggered... but wondering if it isn't teeth. Doc says its not - but she is drooling big time, tugging at her one ear and making 3 dirty green nappies a day... TMI i know!

Breastfeeding Tayla is no longer an option... she screams every time we try during the day - at night she seems fine with it sometimes... So I've resorted to expressing a couple of a times a day and just mixing it in with her formula so she still gets some into her diet. The expressing is a pain in the butt... but until all the milk has dried up I am going to continue with this.

And Finally we found a nanny... after going the whole gumtree route and finding nothing but duds! - we settled on going through a agency. They set up 3 lovely ladies for us to interview and we had a really tough time picking which one we wanted. Eventually settled on real gem - You You - a congalese lady who speaks english and french - she has also self funded every course the agency has to offer... and her and Tayla took a liking to one another almost immediately. So she is starting 1 day a week from next week to familiarise herself with madam and me.. and from October she will be here full time! I cannot wait!!!!! Maybe I can actually get my business going then!!! Tough when you only have 4 hours "free" a day!

Bronz I express every morning after J's first feed. So J eats 7-7.30ish and I express at 8.45 once he's napping. It's better in the morning an hour after a feed. I express anywhere between 150-250mls in 20min depending on when I fed him at night but I have been expressing every day since he was 6w old (now 4m). Also he's a giant (9.2kg) so my boobs are accustomed to big feeds I think!
