zulu i think its great that you have someone you can trust so much and its a bonus that she knows your baba so well! There is an article in the latest Your Baby and Toddler about this nanny and baby relationship titled the other women! Found it to be a rather interesting read.

Hi meags!
I live close 2 sanridge mall. My first day back at work will be the 19th of july. Oh wow meags that would be great, I'll see how our 1st couple of days go and if we struggle I'll give you a shout! Can you pm your number. And no she doesn't have a first aid course certificate, where can i send her for 1 of these courses and how much do they cost?

Angel's Mom where abouts in midrand do you stay?
When do you go back to work?
If you wanted, I could come show your nanny a couple of things if you are unsure of anything?

Otherwise show her how to feed the baby, what angle to hold the baby when she feeds her.
how to burp
How to lie baby in the cot (some nannies like to put the baby on their tummies but this isnt a good idea -so make sure she knows what you prefer)
How to sterilise bottles
How to prepare bottles
How to change nappy/clothing.
Make sure she knows to wash hands after changing a nappy and before preparing a bottle
How to bath baby (if she is going to do this)
How to hold baby (this sounds silly but not all people support the baby's neck)
How to lift baby out the cot (also sounds silly, but some nannies will pick the baby up by the arm - very easy to dislocate a shoulder this way)

Does she have a first aid certificate?

Start by showing her all that you do, feeding, bathing, calming stimulating etc

Then slowly let her do it in your presence, correct her and let her now when she's doing it well.

Um going back to work immediately after the World cup, i have so much confidence in my nanny i sometimes feel jealous ;) that she knows my baby more than me.

i came back late today, and she had bathed and fed LO.

Good evening mommy's

how was the meet this afternoon? Hoping you ladies had a great day

beansmom you must have been scared senseless! 9weeks later nd i still check if angel is breathing @ night dh thinks i'm crazy!

nelria sorry to hear about your lo nd the antibiotics! Hope he gets better soon :-)

jacadebra she's gone back to her normal self during the day but still cluster feeds in the evening!

Zulu i agree! Haven't been on the forum for long but think meags gives out great advice.

Meags i've actually printed out your advice on the choking! Thanks

So my nanny starts on the 1st nd i'm not sure what i'm meant to show her. Do i let her feed angel so that she can start getting used to her? What else? I'm so clueless. Its just that i am so used to doing everything myself! But i need her 4 when i go back 2 work.

Hope you mommy's nd your baba's are having a good evening

Hi Ladies! How was the meetup? Hope you all had fun!

Yikes Beansmom - that is pretty scary. I think when they seem to choke or gag on nothing like that, often blowing in the face is the best thing to do. Then obviously if they actually physically choke on something Meags gave great advice. Babies sometimes do that or even seemingly hold their breaths/ look like they forget to breathe... but I'd just keep an eye out to make sure it doesn't happen too much - the fact that her lips were going blue would have totally freaked me out. Sorry you had such a tiring day - I've had a good few of those - very frustrating. It's one thing having a wakeful baby but another having a stressed baby who is only content being rocked but won't stay asleep. Hopefully tomorrow will be better.

ScribblingAl - I meant to mention - my breasts don't leak at all anymore. What you can do to check if there is still milk is straight after baby unlatches, squeeze gently on your nipple/ aureola - chances are some droplets of milk will come out.

Lia acutally slept well for a few days - gave me a 6-8 hour stretch a few days in a row.. sometimes followed by another 4 hour stretch but, alas, last night she could barely manage one 3 hour stretch! lol. I guess we will have to see where to from here. My motto on this... expect NOTHING and you won't be stressed about it. I remember with my son I was so chuffed that he only woke once a night at the end of his third month - a few weeks later he started teething and woke up every hour for a week. Needless to say all I could cling on to was what he USE to do and I was so stressed out. He never slept through again until he was 20 months old! SO, now I enjoy it when she sleeps well but try not to expect it just in case something throws a spanner in the works or in case she is as sensitive to teething as my son was.

Sorry that Xen is on antibiotics NElria - that sucks. Hopefully things will be back to normal again soon and the antibiotics don't cause any side effects.

Yay for the swing being so useful Pinky - hopefully she continues to love it!

Hi Angelsmom! *waves* Sounds like LO might be going through a growth spurt - either that or she just has wind or something else bothering her and she wants to comfort suck. Hopefully it passes soon because cluster feeding can be so damn tiring.

Ok, have to dash but you must all have a great evening.

BeansMom why dont you and hubby do a CPR course? It includes choking.

But a brief answer is:
Hold baby over your arm with head supported by your hand and tummy over the arm and legs closest to your body.
Lower arm so that head is at an angle lower than the body and legs.
Give baby 5 hard back slaps between the shoulder blades.
Turn baby over and 5 slaps on the chest.
you do the slaps with the heel of the palm of your hand. Before turning baby back over, open the mouth and see if there is any foreign body that can be removed easily.
Continue this process until baby can breath or until CPR needs to be commenced
